Weekly Summary Provided by Dec

The Spitoons got their first win of the season to jump from third to first in the overall standings.   Spitoons continue to be the most consistent team by far in PQBFL this year, the spread between their min and max weekly scores through week 8 is only 37.5 points; the next lowest is Wax with a 58.75 point spread. Spitoons easily distanced the field this week by almost 16 points in what otherwise was a very close week. The Spitoons were led by Kurt Warner, who has filled in nicely for injured Romo, and super studs Westbrook and Steve Smith.  Westbrook is such a stud when he is healthy and he has far outdistanced the other 2008 Franchise players in average points scored.  His health is key to both the Spitoons and the Eagles success.

Dugongs came in second in a muddled week between 2nd and 7th place with only 12.5 points separating.  Dugongs and Wax made a key trade this week that resulted in Dugongs acquiring David Garrard and Fred Taylor who were immediately inserted into the starting lineup that would have resulted in goose-eggs otherwise due to various bye weeks and injuries for Dug.  Without the trade and Garrard's 24 and Taylor's 2 (very important) points this week 7th or 8th place instead of 2nd. In addition to Garrard's 24, Dugongs were led by Frank Gore's 13.25 points racking up yards in a loss, Karlos Dansby's big game with a sack, and fumble forced that he also recovered, and great coaching.  Only one change in Dugong's lineup (he should have started Pierce instead of Witherspoon at DX) would have led to a perfect 100% coaching efficiency.

UJ propelled to 3rd this week with a combined 42.75 points from the Peyton Manning to Dallas Clark action on Monday Night Football. UJ stands in 7th place overall now, just ahead of Old in 8th and distancing slightly from expansion JakesBlues despite the lowest scoring average through 8 weeks.  Besides the Manning to Clark connection, Leon Washington took full advantage of his first start for UJ this year with a 22.25 week after two touchdowns in limited touches. UJ has been hot the past few weeks with only Dugongs and Spitoons having more rank points in the last 3 weeks, however one has to wonder how long UJ can keep this up with by far the lowest strength of starters as seen in the pqbfl leaders by position page.

Wax came in 4th this week to remain in 2nd overall, although it is behind Spitoons instead of the BeaudoinBros after week 8. The trade that helped Dugongs secure 2nd this week also helped Wax as without L. Coles' 17.5 points Wax would have been close to the bottom in this tightly contested week.  The 4th this week for Wax is particularly impressive since team leaders MJD and TO put up stinkers with only 10.5 points between them .  Picking up the slack was Delhomme's 19.25 pts with 2 TDs to the Spitoon's Steve Smith, rookie Chris Johnson's good, but not spectacular day against the Colts on MNF, and new Wax player L. Coles.

FE's 5th place this week allowed them to stay in the hunt; 10 rank points separate 1st place Spitoons and 6th place FE, an additional 7 rank points separates FE from 7th place UJ.  A good coaching week with an over 90% coaching efficiency and decent production all around helped FE this week .  Leading the way were DeAngelo Williams and very impressive rookie QB Matt Ryan. This writer wonders if M. Ryan will be able to keep it up this week against the Raiders as he tends to focus on stud WR Roddy White but the Raiders have shut down CB Asomough. A league high 35% of Ryan's passes go Roddy White's way.

Decepticons only made a few coaching mistakes this week but they were costly mistakes.  Roddy White scored 27.5 points on the bench with all the Matt Ryan passes thrown his way while Reggie Wayne only had 3 inconsquential receptions for 4.75 points .  FE's DeAngelo Williams' big day meant a low number of touches for Dec rookie Jonathan Stewart resulting in only 0.75 points while on the bench rookie DB Brandon Flowers had a breakout game with 2 INTs, one returned for a 91 yard TD for 26 points as the Chiefs put up more fight than expected against Bretty and the Jets.  Dec franchise player Andre Johnson has been a beast the previous three weeks and kept that going in week 8 with 18 points despite not scoring a TD.  AJ was thought of as one of the least strong franchise players going into this year but has put up the most overall points of any franchisees.

JakesBlues tied with the Decepticons for 6th despite having a RB committee of Addai (injured), Edge James (losing his job to a rookie), Fargas (Huggy Bear's son won't get a steady stream of carries until he is possibly out of Oakland), and TJ Duckett (I don't know much about Duckett but I'm glad he's not on my team ).  A whopping 62.5% of JB's points this week came from just three players in Brees (26.25) torching his former team in London, Santana Moss (32) with two long touchdowns against the hapless Lions, and Gates (16.75) as he continues to produce despite ongoing injury questions.

OldNo7 did not have a good week and is lucky to get an 8th place instead of last place as the only RB on the entire roster that played was Chris Perry, whose job has been taken away by Cedric Benson.  Yes, I said Cedric Benson .  Perry scored 0 points behind Benson without a carry, not that it would have mattered as Old stored Perry on his bench as well.  It did not take long for Anquan Boldin to come back from a nasty hit a few weeks ago with 23.5 points and rookie WR Donnie Avery scored a second big week in a row this week with 23 points.  Brett Favre's 3 INTs did not help and he was being booed by the Jets fans, something not he is not accustomed to as he was considered almost a religious figure while in Green Bay. The 8th place this week puts Old in 8th place overall in the standings and it unfortunately looks like Old will finish in the bottom half of PQBFL standings for the sixth year in a row.

While the Spitoons have been the most consistent team in the league this year, the BeaudoinBrothers have been the least consistent.  Over the last 4 weeks the BBs have had two firsts but now a last place and a 7th place in week 6.  The BBs have complained they only get big production from key positions when they are already in the lead by a large margin or have no chance of catching the team in front of them.  There are also rumors the BBs are going to again attempt to remove kickers from the PQBFL this offseason.  However, despite this it looks like LT2 may be back after looking fantastic spinning and running over the Saints in London for 20 points.  LT2 has been known to carry the BBs in past seasons and while he is getting older there is still the potential for one of those streaks.  This week started out great for BBs with Harrell's 6 TDs and a very high 12.25 points for a college player on Saturday but despite LT2's big day and Vilma racking up tackles and an INT also in London the BB's did not have any standout players and ended with a stinkaroo for last place.
