2009 Week #03
1st Place WaxOnWaxOff 154.75 pts
2nd Place Decepticons 134.5 pts
3rd Place BeaudoinBrothers 132.5 pts
6th Place UncleJack 110.75 pts
7th Place FlyingElvis 107.75 pts
WaxOnWaxOff won for the first
time of the year and took possession of first place in the standings and is the
new league favorite by Vegas . Wax made the
gutsy move of benching Rivers and starting prolific Flacco and it paid off.
Flacco outscored Rivers 19.5 pts to 12.25 pts. Franchise player MJD had
his first game with a score worthy of franchise player with 30.25 pts.
Wax's success this week was surprising given the many holes in the lineup,
notably T Owens not catching a single pass, rookie C Wells getting minus two
yards rushing, and several other players having a very low score like Jahvid
Best (1.25 pts), Ray Lewis (3 pts), and Mario Williams (3 pts). However
Wax got unexpected contribution by Eric Weddle who scored a TD and 19 pts along
with London Fletcher's 16 pts on 11 tackles and 5 assists.
The Decepticons stringed a
second strong week to follow up the week #1 disaster and moved up to 4th place
in the standings, only 3 rank-points behind first place
. The 'Cons are very much back in the race.
Dec came out on top of a relatively tight pack of four teams at ranks 2nd to
5th. Cutler scored 20 pts to lead his team. The rest of Dec's lineup
did ok but not great, however few had bad weeks. Rookie Harvin scored on a
kickoff return of over 100 yards. Harvin currently leads the league at the
rookie position, having scored double digits each week so far this year.
The BeaudoinBrothers lost by two
points against Dec and finished third this week and lost two rank-points to Wax
and fell to second place in the standings. The major bad news for Beaud
was the injury to first round pick Gore on his first carry of the game
. This clearly cost second place this
week and will cost in the next few weeks particularly with bye weeks coming up.
Franchise player Turner is also having a slow start, scoring 6.5 pts this week
and ranking 25th best RB. Second round pick Steve Smith has not performed
well either, in part due to Delhomme's struggles. Smith scored 5.75 pts
this week and ranks 22nd WR so far. All was not bad on the injury front
however. Rookie L McCoy took advantage of Westbrook's injury to start and
he scored 12.75 pts.
The Dugongs had an average week
with 4th place. Aaron Rodgers torched the Rams and scored 29.75 pts.
The other big performer for Dug was Curtis Lofton who the astounding total of 13
tackles and 6 assists for 19 pts. He is currently second best LB in the
league. Dug's sore spot continues to be the rookie position. Both
rookies of Dug were scoreless this week. Dug tried to gather interest for
trading for a rookie, but either options at other teams are limited, or Dug has
been unwilling to pay the price of a key starter for a prime rookie.
Future will tell if Dug has to bend in order to fix this major weakness.
The Spitoons did not submit a
lineup this week because the coach and GM were partying in New Orleans all week.
This resulted in injured Westbrook and Welker both being in the starting lineup.
Spi's hungover coach was livid after the
game : "The PQBFL commissioner is a dick.
I left a message on his cell phone one hour before the start of the week #2
games to say that we were starting Marshall, not Welker. I also called
Dugongs to notify him of this roster change. Then I am out partying for a
week, come back and find out that our roster change did not go through in week
#2 because the commissioner changed his cell phone to another country and did
not get his message because the old phone had been disconnected. In addition, Dug wanted to fuck us over and did not
notify the league that we put in Marshall in the lineup. So we got stuck
with injured Welker in week #2. Since week #2 was bad for us, we finished
last and it did not matter. But for week #3 we should have had Marshall."
The official position by the league is that after the week #3 games start, the
week #2 scores are locked in and final. Since Spi did not say anything
about their lineup prior to the week #3 games, the week #3 lineup defaults back
to the week #2 lineup. The Spitoons' coach added back: "The commissioner
is obviously still bitter about us beating Beaud in 2006. This is why we
got screwed." The commissioner answered back in the press: "Instead of
pointing fingers, Spi should look at where the blame should be. Partying
in New Orleans for a full week and not managing the team, then coming back after
the week #3 games to complain about the week #2 roster? Please..."
UncleJack barely edged FE and
Old this week but remains last in the standings. Franchise player P
Manning made a huge comeback for UJ to snatch these two extra rank-points on
Sunday night with 34.5 pts. UJ's receivers were disastrous however,
scoring 8.5 pts together (Housh + S Holmes + Keller).
After being left on the sidelines during
his 47.5 pt effort last week. Chris Johnson was back in the lineup but only
scored 9.75 pts. He still leads the league at the RB position however.
FlyingElvis
OldNo7 got a season-low 105.5
pts and finished 8th this week. LB Briggs did well with 16 pts and Jared
Allen added 12 pts for a strong defensive performence by Old. However
offense was not there. Matt Ryan and Roddy White did not score a TD, S
Jackson continues to struggle because of his surrounding cast, D Williams
struggles with the rest of the Panthers, and Calvin Johnson is not doing as well
as expected so far with the rookie QB.
JakesBlues finished last, a
second straight week of very bad results which brought the team back to reality
after the week #1 success. D Brees was held scoreless for the first time
of the season because the Saints scored on the ground instead of through the
air. One of the few bright spots was the continued success of W McGahee.
He was an eye-popping bargain in the 15th round
. McGahee is playing for a
defensive-minded run-first team, and he's clearly the RB getting the most
carries (not Ray Rice) and he's also the goal line back. So as much as Ray
Rice was a bad 2nd round pick for JB, McGahee was a great pick to go along with
him, hedging the risk. McGahee is currently 5th RB in the league.
Note: sometimes the NFL announces stats changes and according to PQBFL rules, the results are not totally official until Sunday 1pm Eastern.
