2007 Week #8
2nd Place BeaudoinBrothers 162.25 pts
4th Place FlyingElvis 115.25 pts
7th Place WaxOnWaxOff 84.5 pts
The Decepticons’ yo-yo continued
this week, with the team going from 7th last week to first this
week. Dec's coach guaranteed a top three finish this week and delivered on
the promise. This was the Cons’ second win this season and the Cons are now tied with
the Dugongs in 3rd place. All starters for Dec scored in the
double-digits except for Bulluck and the kicker. Brees had his best game of the
season by far, scoring 33 pts. After a slow start, Brees has averaged 22.6 pts
in the last three weeks. With McGahee on bye and T Henry injured, Dec did not
expect much out of RBs but Jacobs and L White were adequate with 137 and 141 yds
from scrimmage and no TD. Both Dec WRs and Cooley scored between 10 and 12 pts
– not stellar but acceptable. Dec’s firepower came on defense this week besides
Brees. The Patriots scored 23 pts in the crushing of the Skins. Winfield got
10 tackles, 2 assists, and 3 PDs against the Eagles and he now leads all DBs in
the league by a decent margin (#2 is Bob Sanders
from Spi with 1.5 pt per week behind). Dec had already wrapped up the win
before MNF but Kampman added points on top with 19 more (3 sacks and 4 QB
hits).
The BeaudoinBrothers finished in
the top 2 for the fifth time this season and easily distanced their nearest
rival FlyingElvis. The BBs regained their 8 rank-point lead in the standings
which had shrunk to 6 last week. The BBs scored 162.25 pts which is only five
points short of their season high which they got in week #1. The team leader
this week was A Gates who scored 22.5 pts with only three receptions but two of
them were long TDs. Gates has been huge for the BBs this year, crushing all
other TEs in the league by 2.3 pts per week.
Since Witten is the second best TE in the league and he’s sitting on the BB
bench, the best TE in other teams is D Clark (UJ) who is more than 3 pts per
game behind Gates. This is the third highest domination of all positions, after
Brady (FE) at QB and A Peterson (Dug) at the rookie position. At WR, TJ Housh
scored his 9th TD of the year in 7 games. He has scored in every
single game this year and he is on pace for 132 receptions. He is playing in
the shadow of Chad Johnson but TJ is the one who puts up the big stats.
OldNo7 finished third with
137.25 pts this week. Old finished very far ahead of FE in fouth place and very
far behind the BBs in second place so there was not much stress involved with a
close finish this week for Old. The WRs were big again for Old this week. R
Wayne and B Edwards combined for 48 pts.
They are the league’s 5th and 6th best WRs. Old’s third
best performer this week was London Fletcher who only got his second start of
the season. He rewarded the coach with 11 tackles, 4 assists, and one PD for
16.5 pts. He leads all LBs in the league by more than a point a game. Old was
hurt this week by star rookie Bowe who was on bye. A Gonzalez did not do much
in replacement, only catching one pass for 16 yds. Old welcomed the return to
the lineup of franchise player S-Jax. However S-Jax disappointed a little with
only 50 total yards and a short TD.
FlyingElvis got very lucky of
being blown out by 47 pts by the BeaudoinBrothers but only finishing 2 ranks
below. FE saved a rank-point on MNF with TE Scheffler’s TD and the suckness of
the Broncos defense for the Dugongs. Brady and Addai scored 58 pts combined and
the remaining 12 starters sucked balls big time with only 57.25 pts
. L Jordan and P Burress both scored a season
low 2.25 pts and 2.5 pts. Umenyiora only got two tackles against the lowly
Dolphins. Urlacher only got 2 tackles and 2 assists. Rookie M Lynch did not
have a horrible game, but 7.25 pts was barely above his season low of 7 pts from
week #2. The Panthers defense was crushed by the Colts and scored -2 pts. The
Panthers rank 12th out of 17 defenses and the backup Jets are even
worse at 15th. This is clearly a weakness for FE. And let’s
remember that FE had drafted the Dolphins instead of the Panthers but traded
them to the BBs during the draft. The Dolphins rank 16th. In terms
of skill to draft defenses, FE’s management needs to go back to school.
Nice trade though.
The Dugongs are back from their
suspension from the summary and underachieved with a 5th place this
week and only 113.5 pts. Randy Moss only scored 10.25 pts, which is well below
is season average of 19.5 pts. He is getting more attention from opposing
defenses. Franchise player Gore only scored 3.25 pts – his worst game of the
year. And he was playing at home against the Saints.
Gore sucks. L Coles has been a nice surprise this year for Dug but he only got
one reception for 13 yds due to suffering a concussion during the game. It will
be interesting to see if Pennington’s benching will help or hurt him. Although
the Broncos D was very bad on MNF, the rest of the Dugongs’ defense provided
some spark. Trent Cole continues to sack QBs left and right. He got two more
this week and is comfortably 2nd best DL in the league after Dugongs
teammate Jared Allen who was on bye this week. Dug started Witherspoon and
Brackett this week and although they are pretty mediocre this year, they
combined for 25 pts this week which was not bad. College QB Colt Brennan has
mildly disappointed this season because he was expected to blow out all other
college players and it has not happened. However Brennan has been doing better
lately and he moved up to within 0.1 pt of G Harrell (Beaud) for the top spot.
The Spitoons failed to reach 100
pts this week but finished 6th nonetheless. Priest Holmes started
for the first time since 2005 but he could not do much since he was on bye.
Westbrook and Galloway were the only two players
for Spi to show up. Westbrook scored 2 TDs and jumped over LT as the league’s
best RB so far. Galloway scored 19.75 pts in a much needed performance because
L Fitzgerald was on bye. J Taylor had a horrible game with only 2 pts. He is
the league’s 5th best DL which is not that bad, but he is so far
behind the top 4 that he has to be considered a disappointment for Spi this
year. Rookie Ted Ginn took advantage of C Chambers’ departure from Miami by
scoring a TD. The only problem is that it was his only catch of the game. The
Spitoons were hurting with the Ravens defense being on bye and having to start
the Browns D. Nobody ever understood why the Browns were drafted, but the
Browns had an awesome week with 2.5 pts, which is 56% more than their season
average of 1.6 pts. Nice!
WaxOnWaxOff finished in the
bottom two for the fourth time in the last six weeks but held on to six place in
the standings. Something unbelievable happened to Wax this week. Out of six
RBs on Wax’s roster, the total number of points scored was zero.
Rudi Johnson, Cadillac, S Morris, and R Brown all missed the game due to injury,
Ju Jones was on bye, and Rhodes did not get a single carry or reception. All he
did was return two kickoffs. Defense was not much better. The Vikings scored
one point and the 49ers scored minus one on the bench. Wax’s best player Steve
Smith only caught two short passes. It is nearly impossible to compete in those
circumstances. The only play that went well for Wax was Lee Evans catching an
85-yd TD pass late in the game. It was Evans’ first TD of the year – it was
about time. Bulger did show sign of life by throwing for 310 yds but 12.25 pts
is not even top 10 in the league.
UncleJack finished last for the
second time this year and in the bottom three for the fourth straight week.
Franchise player P Manning had a good game with 21.25 pts but that’s about it.
Newly acquired rookie Jacoby Jones had a decent game with 7.5 pts, but Chad
Johson (7.5 pts), the Steelers D (7 pts), and Portis (6.75 pts) were below
expectations. Everybody else on UJ’s roster scored 5.5 pts or less. Even
Dallas Clark who was been a higher performer for UJ this year did not do much
and he fell behind Witten in the TE rankings so Clark is now 3rd. The coach
started a player on bye again (Tatupu) but
there was no consequence since no defensive player on UJ’s bench scored more
than 5.5 pts (and UJ finished the week 6.5 pts behind Wax). Not only UJ’s
starters were really bad, but backups were horrible too. Besides the Chargers D
(25 pts), nobody on UJ’s bench scored more than 7.5 pts. UJ had the lowest
coaching efficiency this week, but perfect coaching would only have scored
102.25 pts. Ouch.
Note: sometimes the NFL announces stats changes and according to PQBFL rules, the results are not totally official until Sunday 1pm Eastern.
