2006 Week #13
1st Place BeaudoinBrothers 208.5 pts
5th Place FlyingElvis 119.5 pts
7th Place WaxOnWaxOff 108.5 pts
The summary is provided by BeaudoinBrothers (D) this week. If you would like to volunteer to write one or a few weekly summaries some time this season, please let me know.
The
BeaudoinBrothers’ eight-week hot streak has been reminiscent of the 2005
season. They looked unstoppable last year, and the rest of the league
certainly feels the same way now. The BBs finished on top for the 4th
straight week, setting a new record in the PQBFL. They accomplished this feat
by scoring a season-high 208.5 points!
They have averaged 167 points since week 6 (the league’s average over the
entire season is 129.5 points). They have not finished in 7th or 8th
place all year. In fact, they have not finished in the bottom 2 over the last
32 weeks!! That’s called consistency. LT has been on fire since… well…
forever. His lowest score over the last 8 weeks is 20.5 points, which still
beats the AVERAGE of the second best RB in the league!! Unless he gets hurt,
he will crush the NFL’s single season record for touchdowns. Rookie Demeco
Ryans played a major role in the BBs’ success last Sunday as he recorded 15
tackles, 1 sack, 1 interception, 3 pass defended, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble
recovery (for a total of 31.5 pts) versus the Raiders. Speaking of the
Raiders, can someone explain me how they managed to lose a game in which they
allowed -5 net passing yards??? Holy f%&#, are they losing games intentionally
or what? The Bears D scored 28.5 pts despite having its offense turn the ball
over 5 times!! They scored two TDs (including Devin Hester’s third of the
season on a punt return) and also recorded a safety. Things went so well for
the BBs on week 13 that even LB Kirk Morrison scored a TD. M.Vick helped the
Falcons come from behind in Washington, scoring 21.5 points. He has been a
model for consistency this season, his worst score of the season being a
respectable 8.5 pts.
The Spitoons
have no intention of handing the league championship to the BeaudoinBrothers too
easily. They finished 2nd for the third straight week, trailing the
BBs by only 2 rank-points. They have been riding a hot streak of their own,
finishing in the top half of the standings for eight weeks in a row. None of
their starters recorded a huge score this week, but they all played well (except
for Winslow who got his first and only reception of the game in overtime).
Palmer scored 15.5 pts against the tough Ravens defense. S. Alexander, B.
Westbrook, M. Harrison and T. Owens all scored in double-digits, while both LBs
(B. Urlacher and D. Brooks) intercepted a pass. Despite getting only 3 tackles,
J. Taylor made sure he kept a good lead over all other DLs by scoring 10.5 pts,
thanks to 2 PDs and 1.5 sack . The Spitoons
separated themselves from FlyingElvis, increasing their lead to 8.5 rank-points
in the overall standings.
UncleJack
barely beat OldNo7 this week to claim 3rd place. This is a crucial
win for this team, which now trails OldNo7 by a single rank-point for fifth
place. They can also hope to grab fourth place in the standings following the
Decepticons’ last place this week. Only 2.5 rank-points separate these two
teams. Newly acquired RB Ladell Betts answered the bell by rushing for 155
yards, catching for 18 yards and scoring a TD at home against Atlanta. UJ’s
faith throughout the rest of the season heavily depends on Betts’ performances
because of the lack of depth at the RB position. It’s been an up and down season
for T. Gonzalez. Week 13 certainly was a good one for him as dominated
Cleveland’s defense with 2 TDs and 9 receptions, good for a personal season-high
26 pts. Rookie J. Norwood scored one more long TD (69 yds)
, but you can’t ask for much more from him since
he usually rushes for less than 10 times per game. The WRs sucked big time for
UJ as Boldin and Muhammad scored 3.5 and 2 pts, respectively. This position will
probably turn out to be a pain in the ass for UJ until the end of the season.
Grossman’s recent struggles have had a direct impact on Muhammad’s production.
The poor QB play will also limit Rod Smith who now has to deal with a rookie.
And there’s not much hope regarding McCardell and Stokley.
OldNo7
suffered a tough loss on Monday night. They needed 6 pts from J. Peppers to tie
UJ for third place, but the DL couldn’t get more than 4 pts. This team must
still be happy about the week 13 results because they cut Decepticons’ lead for
4th place in the standings from 5.5 to 1.5 rank-points. Marion Barber
III continued his impressive play by scoring 16 pts (thanks to 2 TD runs) on the
road, helping his team to a big win over their archrival Giants. He has now
scored over 10 pts for four week straight. After starting the season with six
straight games of 10+ pts, Torry Holt then scored 7 pts or less in 4 of his last
5 games. He rebounded nicely last Sunday with a 19.5 point production against
the Cardinals. Meanwhile, A. Johnson’s nice average took a big hit last weekend
with a 1 point performance . He can be blamed
for Old’s failure to surpass UJ this week. LBs Bulluck and Briggs continued
their dominance by scoring 20 and 13.5 pts, respectively. They both intercepted
a pass, which is quite an accomplishment for Bulluck considering he was playing
against P. Manning. His diving catch looked pretty good. OldNo7 has pretty good
depth at most positions (J. Kitna, W. Dunn, F. Taylor, D. Stallworth and R.
Bush) so this team could do some damage until the end of the year.
FlyingElvis
edged the Dugongs by only 2.5 pts this week, helping this team finish in 5th
place. But week 13 felt like a big loss for this team. Coupled with the 1st
and 2nd place for the BBs and the Spitoons, this dealt a big blow to
FE’s chances of winning the championship. According to the Vegas odds, this team
went from a 2.25 to 1 bet to win the title a couple weeks ago, to a 500 to 1 bet
following week 13. Wow. The coach can be partially blamed for this week’s
average performance, as shown by a 63.4% coaching efficiency
. Starting T. Glenn over TJ Houshmandekjdqpty
turned out to be a costly mistake. Indeed, the 16.5 point difference between
these two players would have been enough to reach 3rd place. P.
Rivers disappointed with 8 pts against Buffalo. The Chiefs scored 4 TDs, but
none from LJ!?!
After 2 good games in
a row, B. Watson scored only 2 pts as he fumbled the ball once. Starting K.
Dansby looked like a strange move (FE’s coach got excited by 16 point game on
week 12) and he recorded the worst score of this team’s 5 LBs
. On the bright side, it is worth noting that
D.Edwards got 18 tackles, which was 12 more than the second best on his team!!
FE looks like a lock for 3rd place in the standings.
In 2006, the
Dugongs have been a model of “suckness” .
They extended their streak of finishing among the bottom three to 12 games. Out
of their 13 starters, 10 of them scored in single-digit. A. Brooks (this guy has
“loser” written on his forehead
)
couldn’t get more than 2.5 pts at home against the Texans
.
F. Gore, L. Coles and T. Heap have been some of the rare “bright” spots for the
Dugongs this season. They combined for 14.5 pts this week (which is Tomlinson’s
score at halftime in most games
).
M. Vrabel elevated his play by intercepting 2 passes and recording 8 tackles for
a total of 22 points, by far his best game of the year. A.Wilson is getting
closer to R. Barber for 1st place among DBs. He played great in St.
Louis with 9 tackles, 1 interception, 2 PDs and 1 forced fumble (20 pts). This
team is doomed for last place having 15.5 rank-points behind 7th
place.
The slide
continued for WaxOnWaxOff last week with a 7th place finish. This
team has been among the bottom 3 teams for six of the last seven weeks
. Even though they occupy the 7th place
in the overall standings, they can still hope for as high as 4th
place, trailing the Decepticons by “only” 6 rank-points. A comeback is still
possible. Strangier things have happened before and the core of this team is not
that bad (Delhomme/E.Manning, T. Barber, Rudi Johnson, P. Burress, Reggie Brown,
…). The days where Wax led the PQBFL after two straight first-place finishes
seem long gone though. It looked early on like L.Maroney would take over the
starting RB job in New England, but his level of play has dropped considerably.
To make things worse, he got hurt last Sunday. Rookie Greg Jennings will now
start for Wax, but Jennings has also suffered a big drop in production since his
bye week. S. Merriman came back strong from his suspension by scoring 19.5 pts
(including 2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles), but he was benched. Good things
happened for Wax in week 13 though. J. Delhomme tossed 3 TD passes in Philly. D.
McAllister and T. Barber combined for 283 yards, but neither player could score
a TD.
The
Decepticons had been starting to heat up with six consecutive weeks of 4+
rank-points. But they totally crashed in week 13 with a last place finish. That
enabled OldNo7 and UJ to close the gap on 4th place in the season
standings. All 13 starters scored 12 points or less, except for Vince Young who
got 17.5 points to rally the Titans past Indy in a very exciting finish (aaahhh
those kickers… They can break your heart or make you jump up your seat).
Speaking of VY, he has now averaged 14 pts per game since week 5. He’s a
dangerous threat to lead all rookies in 2006. D. Burgess and A. Davis each
scored double digits, but the good news ended right there for the Decepticons
last week. The WRs were horrible with 8 pts combined for R. Wayne and J. Walker
. McGahee and J. Lewis combined for 14 points.
This team needs to rebound quickly or they could drop a few spots in the
standings.
Note: sometimes the NFL announces stats changes and according to PQBFL rules, the results are not totally official until Sunday 1pm Eastern.
