2006 Week #6
1st Place BeaudoinBrothers 195.5 pts
2nd Place - Tied - FlyingElvis 164 pts
2nd Place - Tied - OldNo7 164 pts
The summary is provided by FlyingElvis this week. If you would like to volunteer to write one or a few weekly summaries some time this season, please let me know.
It was an incredibly exciting week in the PQBFL as there was tons of movement during the Monday night game, and most was in the 4th quarter where Chicago scored all the unanswered points. Before the Monday night game, it appeared that FlyingElvis was a lock for 2nd place, Wax was banking on a 3rd, and the Spitoons and Dugongs appeared to be battling it out for 5th. My how the tables turned on Monday night. OldNo7 had an incredible defensive night with 34.5 points to move into a 2nd place tie with Elvis, while the Spitoons got a monster defensive night out of Urlacher to leap over Wax into 4th. Wax slid to 5th because he had no players on Monday night. It was amazing how many defensive points were scored in that game last night, and almost everyone in the PQBFL benefited in some way from it.
The BeaudoinBros had an absolute
monster week this week , posting the highest
point total of anyone in the league this year
.
BB was already sitting atop the league even before Monday night, but they padded
their lead with the Chicago D, which scored 24 big points. Amazing weeks from LT
(4 TDs, benefiting from the spanking they put on the 49ers), and 30 points from
Hasselbeck. The loss of Shaun Alexander and hence the need of the Seahawks to
throw the ball more is helping BBs weekly scores. Additionally, a trade made
this week benefited the BBs greatly. FlyingElvis, in a pinch for a starting QB,
traded Osi Umenyiora for Philip Rivers and a draft exchange. Long story short,
though Umenyiora had really done nothing for Elvis, he responded to the new
ownership by putting up 14 points. Other big contributions were made by Darrell
Jackson (on the receiving end of the Hasselbeck throws), Kevin Jones and the
rookie DeMeco Ryans. Based on this week’s performance this team looks hard to
beat. You have to wonder where this type of score has been for this team up to
this week
.
Flying Elvis continues his good
run but was disappointed to lose ½ point this week
. Second place never even seemed like a
question even into the 4th quarter for Elvis last night, as Leinart
was having a decent game. It was incredible that Old caught him. Elvis has
finished no worse than 2nd in the last 4 weeks, and this week made a
seemingly brilliant trade to get Philip Rivers from BBs. FE was without a QB due
to the bye week and the fact that Trent Green still does not know his own name
, so he was in desperate need for a QB. Elvis
gave up Umenyiora and a high draft pick, seemingly mortgaging the future but
came out with a huge 26 point performance from Rivers. It could have been higher
if the game had been closer, but since SD pulled away Rivers handed the ball off
to Tomlinson so the BBs benefited. Steve Smith came back in a big way, and Elvis
decided to bench Glenn for Houshmandzadeh at WR and TJ responded with 22 pts.
Larry Johnson had an off week because the Chiefs were behind early, but he made
the highlight reel with the hairpulling tackle of Troy Polamalu
. I ask everyone in this league, what was better
than that?? He yanked Polamalu’s hair like we would all like to yank Jenna
Jameson’s, and probably called him a bitch while doing it
. Way to go LJ!! Matt Leinart is looking like the
real deal at Rookie for FE as well, even despite the 4th qtr
collapse. Elvis had an amazing 97.6% coaching efficiency this week
. There was only one player on his roster he
could have started who scored higher.
OldNo7 made an incredible
comeback on Monday night. He was sitting in decent shape but Lance Briggs and
Charles Tillman had great Monday night games. Briggs had 13, count them 13,
tackles, while Tillman had the fumble recovery for TD. Jackpot for Old!
Old also got a great week from Torry Holt. It
was a beautiful thing for Old that the Seahawks played the Rams, who have always
been notorious for giving up huge numbers on the defensive side of the ball. Old
also benefited from a 90 yd TD run by Warrick Dunn and a great defensive day by
Julius Peppers. JP racked up 17 points for a DL, tops at that position this
week. Old continues to suffer from a weak QB position, as Jake Plummer is just
not very good from a fantasy perspective. Old is getting decent production out
of his rookie position, though the 7 point output from Reggie was not as high as
I’m sure he would have liked. It looks like taking him in the 1st
round will pay for Old. Old needs to do something about his QB if he wants to
compete, Plummer is not great, McNair’s O-Coordinator quit today and Kitna is
not a great option with the Lions. Old’s 95.6% coaching efficiency also has to
be commended.
The Spitoons and Dugongs were in
a tight race on Monday night for what seemed to be 5th and 6th
place, but Spi got a great defensive week out of Urlacher to jump Wax into 4th.
Urlacher is a monster. Spitoons were expecting a big week out of Carson Palmer
(as were many) but he just didn’t get it. Palmer had a decent week, but not
great, in an unexpected loss to the Bucs. Roy Williams of the Lions had a big
week for Spitoons, putting up 25 points and the Spitoons also got a big week out
of “asshole”, with 24 points in total. Does anyone in the world want to see this
man score TDs other than the Spitoons? I think not.
Spitoons does not feel this way but let me speak
on the behalf of the general population and say please, next time, finish the
job: take every pill in the bottle and make sure no one is around to call 911.
Getting off of the TO topic, the RB
position was, and is, a huge weakness for Spitoons. They only got 10 points out
of this important point scoring position, and what hurts Spitoons is they don’t
really have any great alternatives at the position. Dillon was on bye and is
clearly suffering stats-wise from the Pats new “by committee” approach with
Maroney. Shaun Alexander is hurt and Priest Holmes and Ricky Williams don’t
play. This looks very bad for Spitoons but it should change when Alexander comes
back. This week, the trade for Kevan Barlow turned out to be a great move
for the Spitoons because even though Barlow only scored 4 pts, it helped the
Spitoons beat league-leader WaxOnWaxOff. The Ravens D also was a bit of a
disappointment this week for the Spitoons, with 4.5 points.
WaxOnWaxOff finished in 5th
place this week, and I’m sure he is surprised at this development
. It looked like he was a lock for 4th
at worst, and even could have had 3rd. Hard to believe a 143 point
total is only good for 5th. That total would have got him no worse
than a 3rd any other week this season. Wax got good weeks out of
Reggie Brown and, if he had cut his hair, could have had an even better week out
of Troy Polamalu. If Polamalu had cut his hair he may have had another touchdown
to tack onto an already outstanding 19.5 point performance. Larry Johnson pulled
Polamalu’s hair as if he were riding a quarter horse without a saddle. And what
bitch did the Steelers' have about that perfectly legal tackle?
None. But they did anyway. Wax suffered
this week by sub-par performances from his RB position (Rudi Johnson and
Cadillac Williams combined for only 12.5 pts) and starting QB Mark Brunell did
not have a great game. If Wax had started Deion Brach and Jake Delhomme he would
have gained 25.5 points
. Wax had a great
defensive effort (47.5 points!!) that was tops in the league by a mile before
last night, but Old’s amazing MNF performance gave his D 58.5 points. Wax also
was victimized by the bye week at the rookie position.
The Dugongs did a decent job
this week but are suffering mightily at the QB position. The Dugongs have been
last place finishers for the past two weeks but this week lifted themselves out
of the cellar largely due to Laveranues Coles, who had a big week with 25 points
(2 TD catches). Todd Heap and Ronnie Brown had solid weeks as well (13.5 and
15.5 points respectively), but David Carr had –1 points this week
, and the sad fact is that the Dugongs' only
other option was to start a QB who actually was not going to play. Aaron Brooks
(injured), Kurt Warner (benched) and Charlie Frye (bye) are their only other QBs.
OUCH. Starting any of these players would have resulted in a point score of 0
from the position as compared to the negative number Carr put up. Another
problem area for Dugongs is rookie. Mike Bell has never really been the Broncos
starter and Tatum Bell is doing well, so Mike doesn’t play. Dugongs did get a
decent effort from the Broncos defense against the hapless Raiders.
The Decepticons slipped back
this week after a really nice winning week last week. They did manage to stay
out of last place, though this is largely due to Uncle Jack’s poor performances
across the board. Decepticons had a generally mediocre performance from all
players, no one good, no one especially bad. The coach made a mistake benching
Tiki Barber , who had a great game against
Atlanta this week. McGahee only gave him 6.5 points. Barber had over 200
all-purpose yards that would have given him 19.5 points this week. Unfortunately
for Dec even if he had started Tiki it probably wouldn’t have moved him out of 7th
place. The rest of the league put up very impressive scores this week so Decept
and UJ got left pretty far behind. The Eagles D was a big disappointment against
the Saints, garnering only 1.5 points, and Donovan McNabb, while not bad, did
not have his usual week. Vince Young, while leading his team to its first
victory against the Redskins, did manage 10.5 points as the rookie, which was 2nd
best at this position this week.
Uncle Jack is struggling
mightily and is looking like a lock for last place this year. Uncle Jack had a
bad week from the coach, with only a 69% efficiency rating
. While no one can expect 100%, even if he had an
85% efficiency he would have had 125 points, which would have moved him up a
spot. UJ did get a good week out of Bledsoe this week, who padded his stats
against the lame Texans. At the RB position Lamont Jordan hurt UJ badly with his
3 point performance. The problem there is that he is a Raider, and they are
always behind and having to throw. UJ is thin at this position with virtually no
viable backup to Jordan and Parker. UJ got only 1.5 points out of Rod Smith at
WR where he is also very thin. Adding to the woes is that Tony Gonzalez appears
to have aged and is not getting great numbers anymore. One of UJs best
performers this week was his kicker
, which
surely gives BB a chuckle
. Also the Steelers
D had a great week but was, unfortunately, on the bench.
Note: sometimes the NFL announces stats changes and according to PQBFL rules, the results are not totally official until Sunday 1pm Eastern.
