2005 Week #17
2nd Place BeaudoinBrothers 137 pts
3rd Place FlyingElvis 116.5 pts
4th Place WaxOnWaxOff 108.5 pts
Out of nowhere, the Dugongs went from last in week #16 to first in week #17
to surprise everybody with their second win of the season. The Dugongs
were able to win despite starting E James and B Urlacher who did not even play.
Almost everybody on Dugongs team that actually played had a big game. K Collins finished
the season with his best game of the year and 30 pts. He gave something
to think about to the Raiders who must decide if he will return in 2006
.
Tatum Bell started for the Broncos because M Anderson rested his injury.
T Bell took advantage of the opportunity and scored 20 pts against the tough
Chargers run defense. P Burress got his first good game since week #11
with 19 pts. Even E Kennison got a decent game by his standard with 14
pts. The Dugongs finish the season in 4th place with a season where
injuries hit early in the season, but the main reason is that team management screwed up on almost all their
draft picks in the first 7 rounds. Except for E James who had a nice
year, the next 8 players drafted by the Dugongs were busts or got injured: J
Lewis, J Walker, T Gonzalez, T Bell, J Horn, C Brown, Ravens D, and K Collins.
It is hard to do worse than this during a draft. The only positive for
the Dugongs is that the coach was able to get the highest coaching efficiency
in the league, doing the most of what he could with a team that ranked last in
the league in strength of starters.
The BeaudoinBrothers finished in the top 2 for the seventh straight week,
establishing one last record during this top notch season where the BBs led
the league from start to finish. The BeaudoinBrothers finished 31
rank-points in front of the Spitoons and WaxOnWaxOff. This is such a
lead that even if the season was extended 5 more weeks for all NFL playoffs
and even the Pro Bowl, the BBs would still be assured to finish first, even if
they ranked last five straight weeks and the Spitoons or Wax being first five
straight weeks as well. If it was not for Carr's injury in the
first half of week #17, the BBs might have finished first this week again. Tiki Barber ended the season with 29 pts and he was easily the steal of the
draft as the 17th RB taken (early 5th round pick). L Tomlinson slowed
down towards the end of the season due to an injury, but finished 3rd best RB
in the league. The BBs finished with 3 WRs in the top 6 (top 5 excluding T Owens)
with Holt, C Johnson, and A Boldin. The BBs also finished with the best 2 TEs in
the league, four of the top 5 LBs in the league, the top rookie (O Thurman),
the 2nd best DL (O Umenyiora), etc. As unbelievable as it sounds, the BBs
dominated the league so much that even if Bulger, Tomlinson, Holt, Gates, D
Edwards, J Vilma, and R Harrison all got a season-ending injury after the
draft but before week #1, the BBs would still have finished 1st in front of
the Spitoons ! The BBs finished the season 22.2
more pts per week than the Spitoons. Losing all the listed top stars would have
affected the BBs by about 17 pts per week. With still 5 more points per
week than the Spitoons, it is safe to say that the BBs would have still won
the title.
FlyingElvis also ended the season on a good note with a 3rd place. If
the season had been extended, chances are that FE would have caught up with UJ
in 6th place. FE got 17 rank-points in the last 3 weeks. The
team's season start was so awful that they did not reach 17 rank-points until
week #10 ! Larry Johnson was definitely the leader of FE during the last
half of the season and he scored 38 pts this week and finished 2nd best RB in
the league despite being backup for 8 games. LJ carried the team by
himself to 3rd place this week because the rest of the team was not very good.
Rookie M Jones, DL T Suggs, and RB W McGahee were the only other two to reach
double-digits. Despite finishing last, FE might actually have a decent
saved team for 2006 with several players having a strong season end. If
A Green and J Lewis return strong in 2006, they will give headaches to other
teams who will have to cut players from FE's team.
WaxOnWaxOff finished the season with a disappointing 108.5 pts and a 4th
place. This was the team's worst week since week #10. This came at
the wrong time. Wax only beat Spi by one rank and lost 2nd place in the
standings overall by the tiebreaker, having scored 2199 total points to the
Spitoons' 2224.25 pts . Wax almost succeeded in making an unbelievable
comeback against the Spitoons but fell just short. Rudi Johnson was the
main culprit for the counter-performance of Wax this week. Rudi was
awful with only 1 point as the Bengals were routed by the Chiefs. Wax's
WRs were mediocre as the image of the season, with J Porter and C Chambers
scoring only 9 pts and 8 pts. TE Heap also finished on a bad note with
only 3 pts. Wax's prospects for 2006 are relatively bright.
Several players could be in a better situation in 2006 which would greatly
help Wax's saved team. For example, if Ricky Williams starts somewhere
other than in Miami, his 2006 value would increase. T Jones and D
Davis are however watching if their team will replace them with a younger RB.
The Bears have not used C Benson much this season, and the Texans might draft
rookie Reggie Bush in April.
The Spitoons barely escaped a complete collapse from 2nd place by edging UJ
and Old in the last game of the season. Ju Jones from Old and D Bledsoe
from UJ were playing against the weak Rams D and both were unable to score
more than 5 pts. The Spitoons hung on to 5th place this week and
therefore only lost one rank-point to Wax to finish the season in 2nd place.
The Spitoons were able to survive in week #17 despite only having 0.5 RB because S Alexander
missed part of his game, and Westbrook, L Jordan, C Martin were all injured
. QB Roethlisberger was also horrible against the Lions as he backtracked into
the playoffs with only 3 pts. The Spitoons' WRs were the team strength
all year and in the end it's them who saved the team once again.
Steve Smith scored 23 pts to finish the season as 2nd best WR, and virtually
first if we ignore dumb ass T Owens. L Fitzgerald did a great job in
Owens' absence for most of the year. He scored 17 pts this week to
finish 5th best WR.
UncleJack finished the week in 6th place and
finished the season in 6th place. Bledsoe had a horrible game in the
regular season finale with three turnovers .
C Dillon did not even play. Droughns did almost nothing in the Browns'
win over the Ravens. Rod Smith played sparingly and only scored one
point. The only big game came from the Panthers D who scored a TD,
caused 4 turnovers and sacked Vick+Schaub 5 times. UncleJack has a lot
of work to do during the offseason to return this franchise to the glory days
of 2002. Outside of the QB and DB position where the team is pretty
strong, UJ has no depth at all. The saved team going into 2006 may be
weak. UJ will have to rely on a good draft to have success in 2006.
OldNo7 failed in their final attempt to catch up
the Dugongs when they got crushed and finished last for the third time this
year. Ju Jones was horrible against the Rams and was unable to help Wax
by beating the Spitoons. Andre Johnson finished the season with another
stinker: 1 reception for 3 yards. He has been a bust this season.
Remember that he was the third pick in the 2nd round! Yet he finished
31st WR. Very expensive 2nd round pick!
Very little went right for Old this week.
Even the dominant Bears D rested several players and their backups played like
crap and scored -4 pts. Despite this performance, the Bears D was so
dominant during the season that they finished the season as the top defense in
front of the Panthers D. Portis was the team's top scorer this week with
21 pts. Depending on his performance in the NFL playoffs, he is the most
likely player to end up being tagged as OldNo7's franchise player.
Portis finished 8th best RB after being drafted as the 7th RB. Not too
bad.
I hope you all enjoyed the season. Have a good offseason!
