GloriousBastards The GloriousBastards are bringing into 2017 an expansion saved
team which should be a drag for this year. However after 2017
there will be no more excuses. Bas made a few roster moves to
bank on the future rather than worry about 2017 so they need to be
competitive in 2018. For example, franchising the injured A Luck
was clearly done with 2018 in mind because there are too many question
marks around
Luck this year to justify being a franchise player. Bas also
drafted
several young players with more potential in 2018 than 2017. Best Pick: Brandin Cooks.
With Edelman out for the year, Cooks is expected to be a main
beneficiary of the NE offense. The price was not
prohibitive: Cooks was taken with the last pick of the 3rd round. Worst Pick: Jonathan
Williams. The intentions were good - drafting a backup RB behind
a prime quality starter who could be a free agent next year (L
McCoy). However J Williams did not even make the Bills 53-man roster and was not claimed off waivers by any other team. Strength: QBs. Luck
might not be healthy to start the season, but Mariota is a backup with
good upside, and A Dalton is the perfect complement to Luck+Mariota,
being a QB who
can provide stability and a high floor. Weakness: RBs. First
round pick Elliott is suspended for 6 games, D Freeman has concussion
issues, Gillislee and Duke Johnson are backups, and J Williams is
polishing off his CV.
Admirals
Adm's saved team is not the most impressive and Adm franchised an aging
QB (Brees). This does not bode well for the future, but Adm did
well in the draft to roll the dice on some offensive players who have
potential relative to where they were drafted. Given the state of
Adm's saved team, taking chances in the draft rather than go with safe
picks was a good strategy. Best Pick: C Hyde. RBs
were flying off the board early in the draft, yet Adm was able to land
a quality starting RB as late as the 5th round. Worst Pick: Zay Jones.
Adm was already set at the rookie position after drafting K Hunt.
So why draft a rookie WR with limited value in 2018 from a team who
could not make S Watkins anything close to starter material? Strength: Backup
RBs. In case Gurley and Hyde do not work out as starters, Adm has
more than enough to come to the rescue. Ingram remains a starter
in New Orleans despite A Peterson joining the Saints. D Henry is the best backup
RB in the entire NFL and could be very valuable if D Murray gets
injured. J White could emerge as a decent RB in the crowded Pats
backfield. And T West is the starting RB in Baltimore and came
very cheap as a 16th round pick. Weakness: Defense.
Adm is a complete clusterfuck on defense. LBs Von Miller and C
Jones are good NFL players, but they are more akin to DLs than LBs so
scoring will be poor. To make matters worse, Adm did not draft
any LB to go along with two two saved LBs, while every other PQBFL team
has 4 LBs on their roster. Surely, having at least 3 LBs would
have been a better idea. DLs are a bit better and with 4 on the
roster, so perhaps one of these 4 will work out even though the starting DL has a
woman name (Danielle Hunter). Starting DBs are nothing to write
home about, and two of them have the same bye week as one of the LBs.
FlyingElvis FlyingElvis finished 2nd
last year so normally that means a decent saved team.
Unfortunately the offseason has not been kind to FE, including the
suspension to E Elliott which forced FE to franchise AJ Green who is
the weakest franchise player in the PQBFL. The rest of the saved
team was not stellar either, prompting a trade for K Benjamin to shore
it up. Best Pick: L Bell. He
should normally have been a franchise player yet he fell to the 3rd
overall pick of the first round. How is that possible? FE
did not fumble their first round pick. Worst Pick: T Pryor. Here
are the WRs drafted immediately after Pryor, in order: D Baldwin, D
Thomas, TY Hilton, D Hopkins. If Pryor outscores them all, my
name is Elvis (Presley). Strength: RBs.
After Bell, FE is in good shape with J Howard, T Montgomery, and L
Blount who are all starters in decent offenses except for Howard who IS
the offense in Chicago. Even RB5 R Kelley is a starter in
Washington; nobody else in the PQBFL has 5 starting RBs on their NFL team. Weakness: Rookies. Two backup RBs (McCaffrey and Perine) and a WR on a shit team (C Kupp) with no stable option. No thanks.
Decepticons Dec was competitive last year until a late season funk set
in. At least it means the saved team is above average,
particularly on defense. Dec has 4 starting quality players at DL
and LB returning from last year (JPP, Dunlap, Wagner, D Jones).
Unfortunately the franchise player Ju Jones is a bit more of a question
mark with injury issues. Best Pick: A Rodgers. Dec
toyed with the idea of trading for A Rodgers as a franchise player
before the draft, instead of franchising Ju Jones. A trade turned
out to be
unnecessary since Rodgers fell to 4th overall like a low-hanging
fruit. Odds are that Rodgers will be Dec's franchise player for
the next few years because he's not old yet. Worst Pick: Lamar Miller.
What's up with Dec's man-love for Lamar Miller? He is a
has-been... actually he is a never-been. At least this year Dec
took Miller in the 4th round, unlike last year in the 1st round Strength: Rookies.
Dec threw so much stuff to the wall - something is bound to
stick. Mahomes and Beathard are backup QBs and are waiting to
start. If that does not happen, Kamara or M Mack could get the
nod at RB for the Saints and Colts. And if all fails, Dec drafted rookie DB J Adams who
will be on the field for more than 50 minutes per game because the Jets
offense sucks beyond belief. Weakness: RBs. D Murray
has D Henry breathing down his neck. L Miller is L Miller.
Backup RBs are even worse: F Gore is about to crumble, Perkins is only
a starter by default, and Rawls is so bad that the Seahawks brought
Lacy on the team and even a no-name rookie like C Carson (Adm) is starting to
make some noise.
OldNo7 OldNo7 brings a decent saved team into 2017. Franchise
player L McCoy will be the center piece of the Bills offense and Old
has several bounce-back candidates in their saved team such as R Cobb,
D Martin, K Allen, and M Bryant. Best Pick: M Ryan. PQBFL
team owners ignored Ryan during the entire 2016 draft. And ignored him
until Old took him in the 5th round. What a bargain for a team
looking for a starting QB. Worst Pick: D Cook. Old
was the first to draft a rookie, using their 2nd round pick for D
Cook. While 4 other rookie RBs were taken in the 3rd-5th rounds,
it feels quite an expensive price to pay for a rookie RB who has
competition from a veteran RB and on a team without a top notch
offense. Strength: Backup RBs and
WRs. Some teams have good backup RBs but they neglected backup
WRs. For some teams it is the opposite. Old has both in
case starters do not pan out: RBs D Martin, M Forte, T Coleman, and WRs
K Allen, M Bryant, R Cobb. Weakness: Starting WRs.
Fortunately the backups are good, because the starting duo A Cooper - D
Baldwin is weaker than most if not all other PQBFL teams.
BeaudoinBrothers Last year BeaudoinBrothers had a weak saved team, so they
drafted with the future in mind and were targeting to win in
2017. Yet the team surprisingly won in 2016 and therefore returns
a saved team in 2017 even better than expected. The Bros are the
favorites to win this year, particularly since they drafted in 2017 to
win now, at the expense of 2018. All Beaud's 2nd to 5th round
picks have more value this year than next year: Brady, J Nelson,
Kuechly, M Lynch, and D Kizer. Best Pick: D Kizer. For a
team built to win now, Kizer was the ultimate short-term value
pick. He is expected to be the best scoring rookie, and his value
next year will be next to zero as a saved player. The Bros scooped
him up after no less than 5 rookie RBs were taken. Worst Pick: COL Josh
Allen. The Bros already had S Darnold so there was no need to
draft a college QB again. Darnold is expected to be the NFL first
pick by the Jets in 2018, but Allen is not a clear cut top rookie for
2018 and the Bros overpaid for him. Strength: Defense.
The Bros are loaded at every defensive position, having the first or second best
available at Def, DL, LB, and DB: Broncos, K Mack, L Kuechly, and R Jones. Weakness: Backup QBs.
Hopefully Brady does not fall off a cliff due to age, because backups
are not top 10 yet. Winston and Prescott have potential, but they
are not there yet.
WaxOnWaxOff WaxOnWaxOff were favored to win in 2016 but were a huge
disappointment and were never in the race. Despite that, they
return the best saved team of the PQBFL into 2017 are remain a team to
watch. Best Pick: B
Roethlisberger. There were enough question marks around saved QB
R
Wilson to justify spending for a quality QB. Roeth was not
expensive (8th round pick) and he's easy to play matchups on a weekly
basis: if Roeth is at home, start him, otherwise bench him. Worst Pick: J Cyprien.
Wax had already saved H Smith and K Vaccaro who are both top 10
DBs. What was the rush to draft Cyprien in the 6th round, the
same round where L Collins the best DB was drafted? Only one
other DB was drafted between the 7th and 13th round. Cyprien went
way too early. Strength:
Receivers. Nobody comes close to A Brown + M Evans as a starting
WR duo. To top it off, WR3-4-5 are the best trio of the PQBFL as
well, at least for 2017 because they are veterans (L Fitz, G Tate, M
Crabtree). And as if it was not enough, Wax has the best TE
(Gronk) and the best backup TE (J Reed). Weakness: Given the strength of
WRs+TEs, why did Wax not pay more attention to RBs? Crowell is
RB1 on Wax's team and arguably would not be a starter on any other
PQBFL team. The other RBs are all uninspiring (CJ Anderson, B Powell, D McFadden, L
Murray) perhaps except for
A Abdullah who has a high ceiling.
