Analysis of the 2015 PQBFL Draft

BeaudoinBrothers
BeaudMini
The BeaudoinBrothers' quest to repeat as PQBFL champions for the first time since 2007-2008 is off to a good start according to preseason projections which put the team as league favorites.  Much will depend on whether franchise player Odell Beckham Jr was worth the franchise tag or whether opposing defenses will adapt and limit ODB to a good, but not great WR.  This will be important because the BBros WR bench strength is below average.
Best Pick : Rob Gronkowski.  It was a bit early to go with Gronk with the first pick of the second round, but if he produces like a WR (unlike any other TE in the league), the pick will be well worth it.
Worst Pick: Jameis Winston.  The BeaudoinBrothers panicked after Dec took Mariota earlier than expected, and pulled the trigger on Winston in the 3rd round to secure one of the only two starting rookie QBs.  There plenty of quality rookie RBs and WRs available for much cheaper several rounds later in the draft.
Strength: Defense.  More than half of the team's advantage based on preseason projections comes from defense alone.  JJ Watt, L Kuechly are the best at their position.  The Bills are a top 3 defense.  And Posluzny would be LB1 on a few other teams.
Weakness: RB.  The BBros have the worst starting RB duo in the league by far (Forsett and J-Stew) and the backups RB3-4 are also the worst duo in the league as of week #1 (Spiller and G Bernard).  The Bros are banking on A Foster getting healthy very soon.  If that does not happen, RB will be an issue all year.

Admirals

The Admirals enter their third year in the PQBFL and expansion building should be over by now.  Unfortunately, there might not have been enough emphasis on youth in the last two drafts such that Adm's saved team is not that great in 2015 and preseason projections place this team last.
Best Pick: Nelson Agholor.  Adm landed one of the best rookies with a 7th round pick.  The Eagles will throw plenty and Agholor seems ready to produce like a veteran.
Worst Pick: Martellus Bennett.  Adm had already drafted Jimmy Graham in the 4th round and with many holes in the lineup to plug, they could have done better in the 8th round than to draft a backup TE.  Bennett could start with a number of PQBFL teams so Bennett could be trade bait but if that does not happen then Bennett will only be useful on Adm's 2016 saved team.
Strength: WRs.  Adm has the strongest group of 5 WRs in the PQBFL.  D Thomas and Dez Bryant should start all year for Adm unless someone is injured and together they are the top starting WR pair in the PQBFL.   Even backups WR3-4-5 are strong with M Evans, A Johnson, and Decker.
Weakness: Defense.  Apart from DL Chandler Jones, this squad is a bunch of no-names. Adm neglected defense during the draft, not even drafting a single LB and waiting quite a while before addressing the DB position.

FlyingElvis
FEMini
FlyingElvis hopes to build on their above average 2014 season and compete for the championship in 2015.  However it might not happen due to an aging team with a few guys who are still performing at a high level but might not do so for much longer, for example M Lynch and T Brady.  How close are they to falling off a cliff?
Best Pick: Adrian Peterson.  AP had one year to rest and he will play angry.  Other RBs drafted in the first round were not sure things (Lacy), will miss games to suspension (L Bell), or have wear & tear issues (D Murray).
Worst Pick: TY Hilton.  After spending already the team's 2nd and 3rd round picks on a WR, why go after a WR again, particularly for a guy who could be adversely affected by the newly acquired Andre Johnson and the drafting of rookie Philip Dorsett?  Luck has plenty of other weapons.
Strength: Depth.  FE has the strongest group of key backups at QB, RB, WR, and DX2.  FE can weather injuries this season and still compete.  If healthy, FE has plenty of trade ammunition.
Weakness: team defense.  Ravens and Dolphins?  On most weeks, all other PQBFL teams would not even want any of them over their starting defense or backup defense!  Neither of the Ravens and Dolphins are top 10.

OldNo7
OldMini
OldNo7 thinks this was the team's strongest draft ever.  This is probably true, but the team has the weakest franchise player in Randall Cobb, which is a drag for Old's starting lineup.  Cobb better not have lingering effects of his preseason injury.
Best Pick: Seahawks Defense.  No team defense was drafted in the first 7 rounds which was a bit of a surprise.  The top rated defense Sea in the 8th round was a bargain.  In addition, the Texans and Rams were drafted immediately after the Hawks by Dec and Wax in the 8th round, and with the Bills on a saved team, that meant that all 4 top defenses became unavailable instantly after Old triggered the mini-defense run.
Worst Pick: Travis Kelce.  This was a homer pick.  Kelce is an unproven TE and awfully expensive in the 7th round.  And Martellus Bennett was still available and possibly a better option.
Strength: RBs.  CJ Anderson was a bargain in the 2nd round for someone who has excellent chances of being top 3 in the PQBFL due to the change in game plan by the Broncos and an aging Manning.  Forte is always a good option, and Lamar Miller is in a contract year and very motivated.  Even Joe Randle could be a big hit if McFadden gets injured (which is a yearly occurrence).
Weakness: Rookies.  The NFL is a passing league now so TJ Yeldon might not perform as well as this year's crop of rookie WRs.  In addition, other rookie RBs might outscore Yeldon (Gurley, Gordon) especially if Yeldon turns out not to be a 3-down RB on a weak offensive team in Jax.

Decepticons
DecMini
The Decepticons were somewhat in the shadow of the war between the two powerhouses BBros and Wax last year at the top of the standings, but quietly finished third.  Based on preseason projections, Dec has a good chance to crack the top 2 this year and is also well positioned to compete for the league title.  This comes due to an excellent draft which overcomes a weak saved team.
Best Pick: Julio Jones.  At the tail end of the 2nd round, 3 WRs were already franchised and three more were taken with the first 10 picks of the draft.  Julio Jones was a low hanging fruit and there was a significant drop off after him at the WR position.  The Falcons have no proven RB, they have a top QB, a shitty defense which will involve them in shootouts, and an aging second WR in Roddy White with health issues.  Julio Jones could be a monster.
Worst Pick: DeMarco Murray.  History is not on the side of RBs with so many rushes the year before.  The Cowboys ran him to the ground last year because they knew he would move on to another team in 2015.  The Eagles know that and they intend to restrict their usage of Murray which will limit his stats.  Or worse yet, Murray could break down.
Strength: Rookies.  Dec has possibly the best rookie (Mariota), the best rookie LB for stability in case Mariota does not pan out (S Anthony), a talented WR who could have a nice role as a saved player next year (D Green-Beckham), and a lottery ticket who will payoff big if Marshawn Lynch gets injured (T Rawls).
Weakness: WR depth.  After Ju Jones, backups are all a bit of a question mark.  D Hopkins / Wallace / Maclin have weak QBs, and Edelman is second behind Gronk on his  own team.

WaxOnWaxOff
WaxMini
WaxOnWaxOff usually competes every year and this year should be no different.  Last year Wax had the most complete team and that carries into 2015 with the strongest saved team in the PQBFL by far, with guys like Ingram, Hyde, E Sanders, Keenan Allen, and G Olsen.  It would have been even better if Jordy Nelson did not get injured in the preseason.
Best Pick: JJ Watt.  Wax had the guts to draft a DL in the early part of the 3rd round, which never happened before.  It paid off because Wax could exploit the BeaudoinBrothers' biased favoritism and oversized loyalty to the player who carried the team to the championship last year.  In return of the trade, Wax got the best potential franchise player in Andrew Luck for years to come by trading away a couple of rounds after drafting Watt.
Worst Pick: Jeremy Hill.  That was a risky pick in the second round given other household names were available at RB and given that G Bernard is not dead.
Strength: Wax's saved team resulted in Wax having the strongest group of both RB backups and WR backups (RB3-4 + WR3-4) in the league.
Weakness: starting WRs.  On paper, Brandin Cooks and Jordan Matthews are not top 10 WRs, yet they will start for Wax.  They are the weakest starting WR duo in the PQBFL according to projections.  However that is only on paper and these unproven WRs could very well surprise very favorably and have high upside.  If not, Wax's backup WRs are very strong so the weakness is mitigated.
