WaxOnWaxOff Best pick: Antonio Brown. With E Sanders gone from
Pittsburgh, and with questionable RBs, A Brown has a chance to lead the
NFL in receptions this year.
Worst pick: C Hyde. An 8th round pick was awfully early for a RB
who will be the backup for the 49ers unless Gore breaks down.
Strength: Rookies. This group is very well balanced.
Manziel has the highest upside of any rookie in the PQBFL. K Mack
provides assurance of low upside but regular points that a rookie LB
provides. Wax also has a couple of rookie RBs to complete the
group.
Weakness: RBs. After 1st round pick E Lacy, the roster is
empty. All other RBs are backups or ageing RBs in danger of
losing carries to a younger RB on their team: Gore, S Jax, Ingram, L
Miller, Sproles. Wax has so little confidence in Gore and S Jax
that Wax drafted the rookie RBs on those teams!
FlyingElvis Best pick: S
Watkins. FE took the best rookie WR with great potential also for
next year, did not even have to spend the highest pick on a rookie WR
(M Evans was taken before), and forced other teams to panic and draft
two other rookie WR in the following 4 picks.
Worst pick: T Brady. FE's man love was clearly part of the
equation here. FE cannot let Brady go. Brady in the 3rd
round? Stafford was drafted just one pick earlier than Brady and
is worth far more. Other QBs of slightly lower value (not much)
were drafted much later in the 7th round (Foles, Newton, RG3).
Strength: DBs. Weddle Church and Vaccaro might all finish in the
top 5.
Weakness: QBs. Brady is a shaky starter, R Wilson does not have
much upside, and R Mallett was drafted as insurance for Brady but was
traded away by the Patriots after the draft.
OldNo7 Best pick: RG3. With Kaepernick and M Ryan already on the
roster, Old could afford to take a gamble with RG3 who might turn out
to be a QB1. There was a big dropoff in quality in available QBs
after RG3 was taken.
Worst pick: Panthers Defense. Old picked them in the same round
as the Seahawks were taken so they were expensive, and the next batch
of defenses (4) were drafted 3 rounds later.
Strength: RBs. Old has the top starting duo in the PQBFL (G
Bernard + L McCoy) and also has the best backup duo (D Martin + Re
Bush). Even RB5 Vereen could start on some other PQBFL teams down
the road this season if Ridley is benched.
Weakness: Overall defense. A case could be made for TJ Ward, but
the other starters are very weak: O Vernon, C Greenway, L Timmons, and
the Panthers.
BeaudoinBrothers Best pick: Ryan Shazier. While rookie RBs and WRs were
flying off the board, Shazier fell to the 10th round. He provides
great stability to Beaud in case the team's rookie WRs do not pan
out.
Worst pick: Adrian Peterson. He was clearly the best RB
available, but how could Beaud not pick P Manning?
Strength: Defense. This squad is easily the best in the league:
JJ Watt, Kuechly, Posluzny, 49ers, Bengals. The team was so
loaded it could even trade Bobby Wagner during the draft.
Weakness: QBs. Newton is injury prone and already injured to
start the year, Romo is coming off a major surgery, and the only other
QB on the team is Dalton. This feels quite shaky.
Spitoons Best pick: Seahawks D. The clear best defense in the 8th
round was excellent value.
Worst pick: J Edelman. Declining offense, Gronk is back, and a WR
like V Jax was available almost 5 rounds later!
Strength: RB depth. The backups are T Richardson, Fred Jackson,
and even Ray Rice! Sure Rice is suspended to start the year, but
that is not the time of the year Spi will need him. He can easily
become a starter down the road.
Weakness: Rookies. Sankey is a highly rated rookie, but there is
absolutely nobody behind him. Spi only drafted one other rookie
and Tre Mason is only a backup for the Rams. Sankey better be
good.
Cowbells Best pick: Eric
Decker. Bargain in the 14th round and a young WR is excellent for
an expansion team.
Worst pick: Rams Defense. Homer pick, way too early, taken in the
same round as the Seahawks, and waste of an early pick for an expansion
team which needs young players in skill positions to build the team for
the future.
Strength: DBs. Harrison Smith is the best DB in the PQBFL and
Eric Berry could be a starter on almost any other PQBFL team.
Weakness: RBs. Any expansion team will always have weaknesses,
but this group is particularly sad (A Morris, A Ellington, J Bell, D
Williams, A Bradshaw).
Decepticons Best pick: J Witten. The field was getting thin at TE, Dec
picked Witten in the 6th round, Vernon Davis went a couple picks later
and then there was a huge dropoff in quality such that no other TE was
drafted until the 12th round. Dec chose the perfect timing to go
with the steady veteran.
Worst pick: Andre Johnson. With so much depth available at
the WR position later in the draft, why go with an old fart without a
QB as early as the 3rd round?
Strength: Elite players QB-RB-WR. The core of the Dec team P
Manning + J Charles + Ju Jones is the top trio of the PQBFL by a large
margin over any other team in the league.
Weakness: Team Defense. The Chiefs are not a top 8 defense.
Sorry.
Admirals
Best
pick: Jordan Reed. Adm gets a starting quality TE in the 12th
round. This is probably the last year Reed is drafted so late
because he will be valuable this year and beyond.
Worst pick: Eric Ebron. With Bridgewater already on the saved
roster, why draft a low upside rookie TE as early as the 7th
round?
Strength: WRs. D Thomas, Jeffery, and C Patterson is an excellent
trio for 2014 and for the future.
Weakness: College. Adm has a QB (Mannion) and a RB
(Yeldon). Both might be the weakest QB and RB in the
PQBFL.
