Week #6

Week 6 was by far the season's lowest scoring week as bye weeks kicked into high gear. The league averaged only 119.3 pts, and FlyingElvis won with 154.5, the lowest winning score of the year. After 6 weeks we have now had 6 different weekly winners.  The bigger change came in the standings: the GloriousBastards' first bottom-three finish dropped them from 1st to 3rd, while the BeaudoinBrothers moved into the lead at 51.5 rank pts and OldNo7 climbed to 2nd at 50. Only 3.5 rank pts now cover the top three, even though Bas still leads the league in cumulative scoring. ProfessorMJ took 2nd this week, Beaud edged Old by half a point for 3rd, and the Ballers lowered their own season basement to 68.

FlyingElvis won Week 6 with four top-four positional performances spread across the lineup. Drake Maye threw for 235 yards and three TDs, added 24 rushing yards, and scored 27.75, the highest starting QB score of the week. Jeffery Simmons supplied 18.5 with two sacks, two tackles for loss, two QB hits, a forced fumble, and a recovery. Matthew Golden caught six passes for 104 yards and a TD for 17, while rookie Carnell Tate added 14.5 on six catches, 70 yards, and a score. It was about time for Tate to wake up, his score of 14.5 was more than double his previous average of 6.4 pts per game from weeks 1-5.  Those four starters produced 77.75 pts, just over half of the winning total. FE's second best RB Aaron Jones Sr was on bye which created a roster hole, but the varied production around it was enough to give FE its first weekly victory and lift the team.  FE remains 8th overall with 34 rank pts but is now much closer to teams ahead rather than teams behind.

ProfessorMJ reached 139.5 and 2nd behind the week's best running back score and second-best receiver score. Ken Walker III ran for 128 yards, caught two passes for 11 more, and scored twice for 25.75. Malik Nabers caught 12 passes for 165 yards and added a tackle for 21.25. The runner-up finish came with a rather loud bench: Tyler Shough scored 30.25 while Dak Prescott scored only eight as starter, and Kyle Pitts Sr. scored 19 on the bench while Dalton Kincaid scored 8.75 in the starting lineup. The pregame projections favored Prescott and Kincaid, so this was not obvious sabotage, but hindsight still found 32.5 pts in those two switches alone. Prof moves up into 4th overall with 44 rank pts.  The draft follies of going naked with only one DL, one K, and one team defense will bite sooner rather than later in a year where Prof is competitive, exactly as predicted in the post draft summary.

The BeaudoinBrothers took 3rd this week by half a point without a single 20-point starter. Five Week 5 starters were on bye this week so depth was needed.  Matthew Stafford led the offense with 18.25, Chuba Hubbard and D'Andre Swift each scored 17, and CeeDee Lamb added 12.5. The defense supplied the same sort of depth: Nate Landman scored 10, Kamari Lassiter 9.5, Roquan Smith nine, Maxx Crosby eight, and rookie Arvell Reese 7.5. Trevor Lawrence's 29.75 on the bench could have made the margin more comfortable, and one could argue that while regular starting DB J Battle was on bye, the starter should have been Travis Hunter who exploded for 19.75 pts.  But it was the first time he was materially used on offense so it was a hard call to make.  Nonetheless, beating both Old and Bas carried Beaud into the overall lead at 51.5 rank pts.

OldNo7 finished only half a point behind Beaud despite replacing four Week 5 starters who were on bye, including Amon-Ra St.Brown. The defense did most of the heavy lifting. George Karlaftis scored 16 with a sack, two tackles for loss, three QB hits, and two passes defended; Carson Schwesinger also scored 16 with 13 combined tackles and a forced fumble; and rookie Josiah Trotter added 13.5. Jaxon Smith-Njigba led the offense with 12 catches for 134 yards and 18.5 pts. Old captured a league-best 92.8% coaching efficiency, which matters more here than a speculative bench complaint. The 136.25 total was enough for 4th this week and 2nd overall at 50 rank pts.

WaxOnWaxOff followed its Week 5 eruption with a resilient 130.25 and 5th while four previous starters sat on bye. Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson, Blake Cashman, and LaNorris Sellers were all on bye and the COL problem was especially cruel because designated backup Ahmad Hardy was injured and Wax had no third option, leaving an unavoidable zero. In such a tight week where Wax only finished 9.5 pts behind 2nd place, the incomplete lineup stung.  Jordan Love still scored 17, Germie Bernard produced 20.25 on 11 catches, 87 yards, and a TD in a surprisingly good rookie performance (he only had 19.75 pts total in weeks 1-5 combined), and George Kittle added 14.25. Chris Boswell made four field goals, including kicks from 52 and 58 yards, and even recorded a tackle on the way to 13.5. Wax climbs to 6th overall with 38.5 rank pts to settle in the middle of the standings.

FlyEaglesFly's 121.75 was the team's season high and also first time out of the bottom three, this time with 6th place. The injury chain had to move past Jalen Hurts and Baker Mayfield before installing Aaron Rodgers, who threw for 253 yards and two TDs but also an interception for 15.25. Christian McCaffrey led the lineup with 18.5, and Jamien Sherwood scored 17.5 with 11 combined tackles, a forced fumble, and a recovery. FEF did not submit a starting lineup so DeVonta Smith was benched with 16.75, instead starter Rome Odunze scored a weak 4.75.  FEF remains 10th overall, now with 18 rank pts.

BetterBallers's previous best results were in weeks #1-2 with 7th place both times, and returned to that spot this week after three straight weeks in the red in weeks #3-4-5. Three Week 5 starters were on bye, and the double whammy at QB was Lamar Jackson's injury so the starter defaulted to Jacoby Brissett who scored only 4.25, but James Cook III carried the offense with 153 scrimmage yards and a TD for 20.25. Luther Burden III added 12.75 on eight catches for 95 yards, and Pittsburgh's defense scored 13. Juwan Johnson's zero and MarShawn Lloyd's one kept the total at 111.  Bett's 7th place this week keeps the team at 9th overall with 25 rank pts.

The Decepticons started a roster full of highly ranked names and scored a very underwhelming 108.75 from it. Jonathan Taylor produced 151 scrimmage yards and a TD, but a lost fumble reduced him to 17. Patrick Mahomes II threw for 272 yards without a TD and with an interception, finishing at 8.75. Boye Mafe's bye created a goose egg at the DL position because Myles Garrett was injured so this probably cost Dec one rank against Bett. The bench had more painful answers elsewhere: Bryce Young scored 21.75 behind Mahomes, and rookie Sonny Styles scored 14.5 on the bench behind starter Denzel Boston's 1.75. It is worth noting that after 5 weeks Boston was the best offensive rookie in the PQBFL (ROO4) immediately ahead of S Styles at ROO5, but after this week the situation has flipped and Styles is now top 4 and Boston has dropped.  This means the PQBFL's top 4 rookies so far are all defensive players, a stunning result (Trotter - Old, Rodriguez - Beaud, Reese - Beaud, Styles - Dec).  Dec slips to 5th overall with 41 rank pts.

The GloriousBastards lost in 2025 due to inconsistency and this week brings back nightmares and flashbacks.  Bas did not necessarily expect a stellar week with Jamarr Chase on bye, but so many other stars happened to have bad weeks all at the same time in a horrifying result for the PQBFL favorites.  The real damage came from league RB3 Bijan Robinson and league RB4 Derrick Henry combining for only 8.25, what was that?  Henry even lost a fumble and Bijan had negative receiving yardage.  On MNF the Purdy - M Evans connection had potential to salvage the week but both fell way short of the projection against the subpar defense of WAS, at home to boot so Bas sunk below much weaker teams.  One of the few bright spots were Isaiah Likely who caught six passes for 99 yards, a TD, and a two-point conversion for 19.75, in replacement for LaPorta who was on bye.  Also Kansas City's defense scored 16.5. Bas finished 9th with 106 and had a league-low 69.4% coaching efficiency. Jayden Daniels, Bhayshul Tuten, Emeka Egbuka, and Tyler Bass all offered upgrades on the bench; Bass alone outscored Tyler Loop by 11. The league's highest-scoring team is suddenly 3rd overall at 48 rank pts after beating beat handily by Beaud and Old.

The Admirals were missing league RB2 Jahmyr Gibbs and league K3 Evan McPherson on byes, then received only 11.5 combined from replacements Rachaad White and Nick Folk. Josh Allen remained productive with 19.5, Alex Singleton scored 16, and college leader Brad Jackson added 11.5, but six starters scored four or fewer. Folk's one extra point was at least more productive than the rookie replacement: Nicholas Singleton scored zero as a healthy scratch. Even if Adm had picked the perfect starting lineup they would have reached only 129.75, the second-lowest roster ceiling of the week, so this was more than a selection problem. The 99.75 total leaves the Admirals 10th this week and 7th overall at 36 rank pts.

The Ballers' sunk even lower this week and it was not a matter of starting the wrong players, it is rather that the available points (starters or backups) could fit in carry-on luggage. Eight rostered players were on bye, previous starter Quinshon Judkins was injured, and a whopping four starters produced a big fat zero. Nakobe Dean's 13 and Nick Bolton's 11 were the only scores above 10, while the entire offense excluding the kicker managed a paltry 25.  Yes, you read that right.  The combined score of QB-RB-RB-WR-WR-TE-ROO-COL was 25, which was beyond nauseating. Brian Thomas Jr., Najee Harris, Cole Payton, and Cooper Cousins were the four starters with nothing to show for, heck Najee Harris scoring zero was even more shocking considering that regular starting RB Skattebo was benched by the Giants so it was fair to expect a decent game for Harris. Even with perfect starting lineup at all positions would have scored only 85.75, still last by a wide margin. The 68-point result is a new season low, and six consecutive bottom-three finishes have left Ballers last overall at 10 rank pts, barely better than half of the next best FEF at 18 rank-points.
