Week #3

Week 3 produced a historic score, an exact tie for 2nd, and a Monday-night collapse. Bas won with 222 pts, the 3rd-highest weekly score in the PQBFL's 30-season history. Only Dec's 238.5 in Week 10 of 2019 and Dec's 223.5 in Week 12 of 2017 have ever been higher, making this the best GloriousBastards week ever and the league's highest score since 2019. Beaud and Wax tied for 2nd at 171, although each will wonder how it was not an outright win: Trevor Lawrence deliberately took a knee at the 1-yard line instead of scoring for Beaud, while Wax lost Justin Jefferson and De'Von Achane early to injuries. FEF entered Monday with 66.5 pts and 72.5 projected from seven remaining starters, including five Eagles, but those seven produced only 45 in Philadelphia's catastrophic 27-7 loss. Bas now leads the season at 24-6, just ahead of Old at 23-7, Adm at 21-9, Beaud at 20.5-9.5, and Dec at 20-10.

The GloriousBastards overwhelmed the league this week with a gargantuesque 222 pts. On Thursday it started with 31.25 pts from Bijan but Sunday was such a fireworks of scoring that Bijan could have lost 6 fumbles on TNF for minus 18 pts and it would not have mattered, Bas was going to win this week anyway.  Brock Purdy led every player with 40.5, Garrett Wilson added 22.25, and Derrick Henry and Ja'Marr Chase each had 18.75. The defense contributed too, with Fred Warner scoring 19 and DeForest Buckner 13, while rookie Mike Washington Jr. added 12.25. Even many backups had good games with shows the depth of this team for example Bo Nix's 22.5, the Jacksonville defense's 18, Daiyan Henley's 15, and Bhayshul Tuten's 14. After finishes of 2nd, 6th, and now 1st, Bas has moved to 24-6 and owns both the league lead and the season's defining score so far.  The pre-season favorites have awoken.

The BeaudoinBrothers tied for 2nd with 171 pts and came within one bone-headed real-life decision of beating Wax outright. Trevor Lawrence scored 23, but as mentioned above he refused to score a rushing TD. Six more points would have settled the PQBFL tie by itself. Beaud still received 20.75 from Brock Bowers making a splash back from injury, 20 from the Minnesota defense, 16 from Roquan Smith, 14.5 from CeeDee Lamb, and 14 from rookie Jacob Rodriguez.  Beaud reached 93.96% coaching efficiency this week and left only 11 pts outside the maximum lineup in sharp contrast to weeks 1-2, so this was a very well-managed week and Beaud moved from dead last in coaching efficiency after 2 weeks to now 4th out of 11. The 9.5 rank-points move Beaud to 20.5-9.5, but Lawrence stopping himself one yard short will be hard to forget.

WaxOnWaxOff also finished at 171 pts, and under ordinary circumstances this lineup should have beaten Beaud handily. Joe Burrow scored 26.25, George Kittle had 23, Will Anderson Jr. added 21, rookie Kenyon Sadiq scored 19.25, and Jaylen Warren supplied 17.5. The problem was a brutal flurry of in-game injuries: Justin Jefferson hurt his ankle on Minnesota's opening possession and finished with 3.5, while De'Von Achane suffered a first-quarter knee injury and scored only 1.5. Achane is now expected to miss the rest of the season. Those two starters combined for five points after barely getting to play, yet Wax still tied for 2nd. If Ju Jefferson ends up missing significant time, at least the team can take comfort that Michael Wilson has been doing well including 20.25 this week and only 1.6 pts per week behind Jefferson so far.  Wax improved from 10th to 8th to tied 2nd over the first three weeks, but the Achane injury is a much larger problem than the tie.

The Admirals finished 4th with 155.5 pts, and the best coaching move of the week came just before the lineup deadline. Adm replaced Hunter Henry with Harold Fannin Jr.; the projections differed by only 0.33 pts, but Fannin exploded for 20.5 while Henry scored 1.25 on the bench. That single decision added 19.25 counted points. Jahmyr Gibbs led the lineup with 33.25, while Houston's defense scored 12 and Rashee Rice and Parker Washington added 11.25 and 11. Josh Allen managed only 9.5, so finishing in the blue despite an ordinary game from the team's biggest star is encouraging. Jakobi Meyers' 17 was the largest wasted bench score, but Adm still reached 93.25% coaching efficiency and left only 11.25 pts outside the maximum lineup. Three consecutive top-five finishes have produced a 21-9 record and kept the Admirals in 3rd overall.

ProfessorMJ followed its Week 2 runner-up finish with 5th place and 154.75 pts. Dak Prescott scored 18.5, Ken Walker III had 18.25, Christian Watson supplied 16.75, rookie Jeremiyah Love added 15.75, and Danielle Hunter scored 13.5. The lineup was balanced enough that only Dalton Kincaid, with 0.75, seriously dragged down a starting slot. Tyler Shough's 23.5, Jordan Addison's 17.5, and Wan'Dale Robinson's 14.75 were all wasted on the bench.  Addison's re-surgence could not have been predicted however, it was simply the product of Jefferson's injury.  After opening 8th, the team has finished 2nd and 5th and now sits 18-12, close enough to the leaders that the poor first week no longer defines the season.

OldNo7 took 6th with 134.75 pts and remained 2nd overall at 23-7, but this was the first week the lineup decisions materially held back the finish. Jaxon Smith-Njigba was outstanding again with 27.5, Jared Goff scored 20.25, and Javonte Williams added 15.25. The bench, however, held the Chicago defense's 18, Terry McLaurin's 16.75, Will Reichard's 12, and Jeremiah Smith's 11.5. Starting Carolina over Chicago alone cost 10 pts.  The bigger issue was that WR Amon-Ra St. Brown failed to reach his own lofty standards with only 9.75 and rookie KC Concepcion only scored 2.25.  He has been a disappointment so far with a lowly average of 4.3 which is not good considering he was an expensive 4th round pick.  The only reason he started is because the top rookie in the PQBFL in weeks 1-2 Josiah Trotter was injured. Old left 41.25 pts outside the maximum lineup and finished at 76.56% efficiency, well below the first five teams. The roster remains strong enough to survive a middle-of-the-pack week, but after a 1st and a 3rd, this was a clear step backward in both production and selection.

The Decepticons fell from the Week 2 win to 7th with 123.5 pts. Drake London led the starting lineup with 19.5, Patrick Mahomes II scored 16, Kyren Williams had 15.75, and Trey McBride added 12.75, but the defensive starters were far too quiet. Boye Mafe, Robert Spillane, Cedric Gray, and Jessie Bates III combined for only 20.5. Meanwhile, on the bench were backups Geno Smith with 29.5, Patrick Queen and Sonny Styles each 15.5, Jeremy Chinn 15, and Davante Adams 13.75 which was better than starter Flowers with 10 pts. Dec left a league-high 67.25 pts outside the maximum lineup and posted only 64.74% coaching efficiency. Mahomes over Geno was a logical call to make but many others were not so; the pile of unused defensive production was much more damaging. Dec remains 20-10 after its strong opening two weeks, although this lineup looked nothing like the one that stole Week 2 on Monday night.

BetterBallers finished 8th with 121.75 pts, the team's third straight result in the lower half. Lamar Jackson scored 20, Tee Higgins had 17.5, James Cook III added 17.25, and Luther Burden III supplied 15.25, but starting TE Terrance Ferguson scored 1.25 and the selected rookie and college player combined for only 6.25. The bench contained several major alternatives: Jacoby Brissett scored 24.5, Juwan Johnson 21.5, Greg Rousseau 19, and both Deebo Samuel Sr. and Joshua Metellus had 12.5. Bett has now finished 7th, 7th, and 8th and sits 11-19. There is enough depth to improve or survive the upcoming bye weeks, especially on defense and at TE, but the useful bench production needs to turn into counted points soon.

FlyEaglesFly entered Monday night fairly well positioned and then watched Philadelphia turn the ending into a catastrophe. FEF had a projected score of 139 before MNF and only ended up with 111.5 due to the dud by the Eagles both on offense and defense.  Heck even rookie Makai Lemon was poor. To add insult to injury the two starters from the Bears starters Rome Odunze and Cairo Santos did not do much either. Not that it was tempting, but we should mention that Aaron Rodgers' 26.25 was left on the bench and would have been a huge improvement over Hurts who has not delivered the goods so far, ranking QB14 in the PQBFL.  FEF now sits 4-26 after three consecutive bottom-three results.

FlyingElvis finished 10th with 96 pts, and the piss-poor performance of Drake Maye is now sinking the season. Maye scored zero in Week 3 and has only 10.5 pts through three games. What a stunning result for who was thought to be a potential franchise player in 2027.  He currently ranks dead last, 30th of the 30 drafted quarterbacks, at just 3.5 pts per game. A.J. Brown's injury has hurt New England, but it cannot come close to explaining this level of quarterback collapse. FE did get 16 from Jeffery Simmons, 14.25 from Chris Olave, and 10 from Jordyn Brooks, but too many other starters remained in single digits. Talanoa Hufanga had a monster game of 28.5 but FE continues to insist in starting Emmanwori who only scored 2, what's up with the irrational man-love?  Not only Emmanwori was drafted way too early in the 6th round but he continues to cost FE with his bad games while Hufanga outscores him.  At 9-21, FE's roster has other problems, but none is remotely as important as Maye.

The Ballers returned to last place with 88.5 pts after briefly escaping it in Week 2. Nick Bolton's 13.5 and Dexter Lawrence II's 13 were the best starters scores, while Kyler Murray scored 11.75. The offense around Murray was nearly empty: Omarion Hampton, Quinshon Judkins, Brian Thomas Jr., Jameson Williams, and T.J. Hockenson combined for only 23.25, and rookie Jadarian Price actually finished at -1. The bench made the result look even worse. Sam Darnold scored 28.75, Deshaun Watson had 21.5, Nakobe Dean scored 17.5, and Reed Blankenship added 15.5. Ball left 53.5 pts outside the maximum lineup and had the week's lowest coaching efficiency at 62.32%. The team is now 2-28 with weekly finishes of 11th, 9th, and 11th, and both the roster production and the lineup choices need major improvement.  After 3 weeks, Ball ranks last in coaching efficiency, last in strength of starters, and second highest in injury points.  This is a toxic combination.
