Week
#17
The BeaudoinBrothers limped to the finish line and grabbed the PQBFL
championship by blocking the surging GloriousBastards.
Thankfully the league rules have changed such that week #18 is now
out of bounds otherwise the outlook would be grim for the Bros to
hold on. In fact the projections were already predicting gloom
as of Saturday until King Henry exploded for an eye popping 43.5 pts
by carrying the rock 36 times, the highest carry count of the entire
NFL RB this year which is a heavy workload for any RB, let alone an
aging RB like Henry. So it was definitely a flashback to the
golden years of the BeaudoinBrothers when Henry was a stud franchise
player and led the Bros to many successful seasons including league
titles in 2019-2020-2022. He has now carried the team on his
back for the 4th time and the win. In 2025 he was still
franchise but arguably a fairly weak one, in fact he ended the
season as RB7 which is a below average starting RB1. But he
still had one more monster game left in him and it came at the
perfect clutch time. But even Henry’s huge game was still not
enough. As it happened so many times during the season for the
Bros, a bunch of backups at non-key positions also made a
difference. If Jalen Carter, Kyle Dugger, and Rhamondre
Stevenson all had scored equal to their weekly projection, the Bros
would have finished this week 5th so Bas would be champions by
now. But those three guys after spending almost the entire
season on the bench, were called into action due to injuries of
other issues and showed up to play. J Carter had a sack and a
blocked extra point which turned a 14-13 defeat for the Eagles into
a 13-12 win. Dugger led the Steelers in tackles+assists with 8
and added an INT. Last but not least, Stevenson played second
fiddle to T Henderson (Old) like most of the year by being outrushed
19 to 8, but it was Stevenson who scored 2 TDs compared to none for
Henderson. If the Bros had started Hubbard, Bas would have
tied Beaud at 100 rank points and won at the tie-breaker with the
slimmest of margins due to total points. The 2025 Bros are arguably
the weakest PQBFL champions in the history of the league.
Except for the original 1997 season when the league was still in its
infancy (the only year when there were as few as 4 teams), the Bros
finished this season with 5.27% points above average, the lowest of
any champions, one small notch below the 2004 Decepticons which won
the league with only 5.31% more points than league average.
The GloriousBastards won for a league-high 5th time (only 1 for
Beaud) but came up short despite having the best saved team in the
league. It is still puzzling to this day how Bas could not
dominate considering their awesome team at key positions.
Bijan + J Chase + Pickens + McBride finished 3rd, 3rd, 6th, and 1st
at their respective position. For these four spots alone, Bas
had an average more than 13 pts per game more than Beaud. QB
was a mixed comparison because Purdy was roughly in line with
Stafford but both did not play much, Stafford only started from week
10-15 after being acquired by trade, and Purdy missed 9 games due to
injury. Behind them were a rotation of backups, T Lawrence and
D Jones for Beaud vs Nix for Bas which was similar, or the
oft-injured Burrow versus J Daniels. Bas lost this year almost
entirely due to non-key position players. For
K+DEF+DL+LB+Flex+ROO, Bas was behind Beaud by 15 pts per game.
The most painful was the LB position where Beaud was not stellar (Q
Walker LB8 and R Smith LB11) but Bas was simply disastrous having
drafted LB30 LB32 LB33 out of 36 LBs (Henley, Parsons,
Bernard). Bas had lots of injuries during the season, but one
which was more under the radar screen than others was Fred
Warner. He only played 6 games, ended LB10 and was sorely
missed. It might very well be that Warner’s injury was the
difference maker, rather than high profile injuries to J Daniels, G
Wilson, or J Conner because Bas had more depth at those
positions. This week Bas crushed the competition with 5 TDs
from Purdy on SNF and 2 more from Bijan on MNF but Bas needed help
from other teams and none came to the rescue by inserting themselves
between Bas and Beaud.
OldNo7 was in decent position to win the PQBFL for the second time
in three years but unlike the GloriousBastards, Old did not excel in
the final week by finishing 5th so they end the season in third
place behind Bas. On the offensive side of the ball, Old
showed up to compete with 2 TDs from Caleb, 1 TD from CMC, and 2 TDs
from Chase Brown. Both Old WRs scored double digits so they
were decent but they failed to match their elevated
projections. It’s rather on defense that Old struggled with
the four individual defenders combining for a lowly score of 14.5
pts which could not compete in any way shape or form with the Bros’
41.5 pts for those four positions, leaving the offense with too much
ground to make up. It also did not help that rookie T
Henderson watched his teammate R Stevenson (Beaud) score two TDs
while he was held out of the end zone himself.
After a late surge in weeks 15-16, FlyingElvis still had a shot to
finish in the top 3 but this week was a disappointment with 7th
place so FE had to settle for 4th place in the standings. The
consolation is that FE could held on to their spot by finishing 3
rank-points ahead of Prof who beat FE this week, but only did so by
one rank so it was insufficient to knock FE down. FE had the
problem of missing a DB this week again as all three DBs were still
out to injury. However unlike Old who struggled on defense,
the three active defenders for FE scored an impressive 48.5 pts led
by Cashman with 21 pts. The cherry on top was the Seahawks
defense scoring 17 pts to cap their season as the top defense in the
PQBFL with an average of 13.0 pts per week. The problems this
week for FE was entirely on offense with D London still not looking
like himself after returning from injury and only scoring 1
pt. RB Josh Jacobs was even worse with only 3 rushing yards
and nothing else in part because the Ravens completely dominated the
time of possession and in the rare times that the Packers had the
ball they moved quickly down the field with long passes rather than
run it with Jacobs.
ProfessorMJ finished the season smack in the middle with 5th place
with a nearly .500 record of 69 wins 67 losses and scoring an
average of 140.7 pts per week, a fraction above the league average
of 140.2 pts. This week Prof took 6th place thanks to 25.25
pts from Prescott but unfortunately he did not throw much to CD Lamb
this time, who was limited to 7.25 pts. Lamb missed three
games to injury this season but even in the games that he played, he
was outscored too often by Pickens (Bas) and finished the season
WR13 which is too low for a franchise player. Besides
Prescott, this week Breece Hall had a good week with 20.75 pts to
end the season at RB17. The pre-season projections for Hall
were not as high as for Lamb but more was expected than him as the
20th player drafted overall. But who knows, perhaps he can
find his way out of New York for greener pastures (no pun intended)
and his talent might help him produce in a better situation than the
one in gang-green.
After a late season surge that got Adm back in the race,
unfortunately they choked at the worst possible time by finishing
last in two of the final three weeks which means they could not
finish any higher than 6th in the standings. J Gibbs was a
monster for a while with three out of five weeks with scores between
29 pts and 47.25 pts during weeks 10-11-12-13-14 but the last three
weeks he only scored 20.75 pts total, including a crappy 3.25 pts
this week. Also AJ Brown who had a bad season overall but who
had improved recently, he did not get the job done this week with
only 8.25 pts. Adm remains fairly well setup for 2026 however
because Gibbs (RB4) and Josh Allen (QB1) will most likely be ranked
among the best franchise players when August come. Defense was
not a strong point in 2025 but part of it was Nick Bosa only playing
3 games, he might still be worth cutting which leaves decent players
on Adm’s roster such as Sherwood (LB9) and McKinney (DB4).
As bad as Adm’s late season finish was, there is no argument that
Dec was several orders of magnitude worse. Dec finished in the
bottom two for 5 of the last 6 weeks and scored more than 111.5 pts
only once in the last 7 weeks. From week 12-17, Dec earned 13
rank points which is half of the second next worst Ballers who had
26 during that period. Wow. This week Dec finished 8th
and believe it or not there were many very good scores so it could
have been a lot worse. Both Jessie Bates and TJ Edwards scored
a TD, how often do we have an individual defender scoring a TD, let
alone two? T Walker had a sack and the Eagles were impressive
with a defensive performance in Buffalo for 12.5 pts. But Dec
had goose eggs at QB, K, and WR2 while WR1 DeVonta Smith was barely
better with 3.25 pts. Also Pitts only scored 2.75 pts ; he
would benefit from a change in scenery if he leaves ATL in the
offseason.
After finishing first in week 1 it was downhill from there for Wax
who ends the season in 8th place but at least they close on a
positive note with 3rd place this week, only the third time in the
top three for the entire season. Drake Maye might end up MVP
of the NFL and crushed the lowly Jets with 39.5 pts. He’s
certainly not the MVP of the PQBFL but he finished QB3 which is
higher than almost nobody would have guessed. Not quite good
enough for franchise player however. Barkley might also not be
worth franchise next year, he scored 6.75 pts and wraps up the
season as RB11. Ju Jefferson was even worse with 5.5 pts this
week and a finish at WR29. It is not clear that he will have a
better QB in 2026 so the outlook is not so bright despite none of it
being his fault. Wax arguably had the MVP of the PQBFL with J
Dart outscoring all other rookies by 3.3 pts per week, the highest
of any position. Dart only played 14 games, but ROO2 McCarthy
(Beaud) and ROO3 Skattebo (Dec) had even fewer than him so it's not
a main consideration. But as good as Dart was, his value in
2026 will drop like a rock after graduating to QB because his score
would have ranked QB18. Wax might be in need of a rebuilding
year after winning the league in 2024. Things change fast.
The Ballers threw the towel a while ago but finished 4th this week
which was the 4th straight week finishing 6th or better so from
weeks 14-17 Ball finished above .500 with 17 wins 15 losses.
As bad as 2025 was, the outlook for 2026 is actually moderately
promising. Nacua and J Cook seem to be clear-cut franchise
players. L Jackson did not pan out in 2025 but he was affected
by injuries so surely he will be worth high enough to cut in 2026
rather than be a very pedestrian saved player as per his QB14
ranking this year. Swift is not old yet and playing on the
improving Bears offense, as RB12 he's another cut candidate, same
story for his teammate C Loveland. B Thomas was a massive
disappointment but he’s still young so he might retain some value
especially with T Lawrence finding his groove this season.
Even on defense Ball have bright spots such as having the overall
best defender in the PQBFL J Brooks who might be cut, which would
allow Ball to save Hutchinson DL5 who has potential to finish top DL
some day.
