Week #13

ProfessorMJ became the 8th  different team to win this season with a fairly low first place score of 161 pts.  Prof was the only team this week to get pretty consistent contribution throughout the lineup which was enough to win.  Kyren, Breece, Lamb, and Jameson Williams each scored a TD, Williams being the key one because for once Prof started the correct WR by leaving Deebo (6.5 pts) and Addison (6.75 pts) on the bench while starter Williams had a nice game on Thanksgiving with 20.75 pts which was the difference between 1st and 3rd place.  Rookie Shough also scored 2 TDs for 17.5 pts which beat his projection despite two turnovers and Herbert also scored 2 TDs of his own but got injured.  Garrett added one sack to his huge record breaking season and the Pats D confirmed the win on MNF thanks to a punt return for a TD to beat Beaud.

The BeaudoinBrothers jumped back in the top 3 with a first finish in the blue after a 3-week hiatus from week 10 to week 12.  This week was mostly about defense, first of all JJ McCarthy missed the game to injury which was a blessing in disguise, the coach did not need to hesitate and started rookie Schwesinger who scored 12 pts.  Crosby registered two sacks in a losing effort for 19 pts and the Chargers D had 5 sacks for 14.5 pts in that game against the Raiders.  DB Fitzpatrick had a key INT on a two-point conversion to seal the outcome of the game with one minute remaining but unfortunately it did not count as an INT because it was not a regular play but rather a 2-pt conversion; at least it counted for 2 pts.  Offense was another rough week with a negative score from Zay Flowers and only 10.5 pts from Stafford due to 3 turnovers.

The GloriousBastards leaped back into first place with a third straight week in the top 3.  J Chase got his QB Burrow back but did not score a TD so it’s not him who powered Bas this week, it was rather Bijan who is doing just fine without his own injured QB Penix, this week Bijan scored 24.25 pts.  TE McBride continued scoring like a WR with 18 pts this week, he will probably finish TE1 in the league and if he was a WR he would rank WR6.  On defense Parsons had started the week on a positive note on Thanksgiving with 20 pts to put Bas in the driver seat but moderately slowed down on Sunday in part due to Cam Ward not scoring in garbage time unlike what he normally does, so it made a big difference with a score of only 3.5 pts.

The Admirals had another week in the top half of the standings although less dominant this time, but it was enough to jump over FE in the standings to settle in 6th.  Adm had a chance to beat Bas on MNF but H Henry and B Burns both underperformed relative to their projection with a combined score of 11.5 pts.  J Gibbs did not star on Thursday with only 8.5 pts and for a rare week it was Adm’s other franchise player who pulled his weight with 28.5 pts from AJ Brown.  Josh Allen was also a laggard with 14.75 pts and even got outscored by kicker McPherson who made all 6 of his FGs plus two extra points for a total of 18 pts.  Last but not least, Adm got a nice boost from rookie Harvey who scored 2 TDs for 16 pts, making the benching of Dillon Gabriel by the Browns a non-issue.

The Decepticons partially recovered from their last place in week 12 with a 5th place this week.  The problem is that Dec only gained ground against Old and FE, while losing against four other competitors in a tight pack in the standings, Bas, Beaud, Prof, and Adm.  Dec dropped to 4th place with a dimming outlook.  The duo Mahomes-Rice was powerful this week with 4+2 TDs for a total of 57.5 pts but DeVonta Smith was in the shadow of AJ Brown (Adm) with only 7.25 pts and J Taylor only matched his projection with 13.5 pts rather than crush it which he has done numerous times recently.  Achane did better with 20.25 pts.  Dec will be happy to see the end of college players in the starting lineup with Dec not having any college player in the top 9 including Drew Allar who is injured (COL10) and this week was typical with only 2.5 pts from Antonio Williams.  Dec missed both their DLs again so they fielded an incomplete lineup which cost Dec 4th place considering they finished only 1.25 pt behind Adm.  That missing 1.5 pt could have easily come from Spillane who had a poor game on MNF with only 2 pts – tied for his worst game of the season.

Wax had a forgettable week with 6th place in a week mixed with good and bad news.  Bucky Irving finally made his return with a TD and 14 pts which was needed, but Barkley was a non-factor with only 5.5 pts to drop further from RB14 to RB16 in the PQBFL – quite a fall from grace from the top spot in 2024.  The Wax coach made the correct call to bench Ju Jefferson at the last minute because he was inept like the rest of the Vikings offense with only 3 pts and McConkey filled in with an adequate 10.75 pts.  The problem is that Egbuka was held in check with only 6 pts.  The QB-RookQB duo of Maye and Dart had a chance to make a comeback on MNF and their combined score of 37.75 pts was decent but pretty much in line with their projection so it did not propel Wax among the top 5 this week.

The Ballers finished in the red for the 5th straight week with 7th place and will soon be assured of finishing the season last.  It was more puzzling crap from L-Jax this week with a paltry 2.5 pts – he has now scored a total of 8.25 pts in the last 3 weeks for a nauseating average of 2.75 pts, which is something that even backup DBs can beat.  Nacua is another who has slowed down considerably, this week he scored 9.5 pts which is nowhere near his average of 15.3 pts this year. Rome Odunze has also fallen off a cliff as mentioned here in previous weeks and week #13 was more of the same with peanuts from him: 2.25 pts.  There are some weeks where rookie Loveland was the one taking some targets away from Odunze which could soften the blow for Ball but this week it was not really the case with only 4.25 pts from Loveland.  The Bears did more on the ground with 18.75 pts from Swift so the heavy Bears concentration for Ballers only paid off at one position.

The string of first place teams falling from grace continued with OldNo7 finishing in 8th place and being passed by Bas in first place.  The dynamic WR duo of Amon-Ra and JSN was surprisingly disastrous with only 3 pts from JSN and a goose egg from Amon-Ra although for the latter it was due to injury, unlike JSN who did not have an excuse except for the fact that the win was too easy for the Seahawks so he did not need to do anything.  Caleb also had a less than stellar game with 1 TD 1 INT and 11.25 pts.  Old was able to avoid last place thanks to defense, led by Tuli Tui 18.5 pts, and low double digit scores from Quincy Williams and DB McDuffie.  Old will need more production from the rookie position to compete down the stretch but T Henderson is hampered by the return to health of R Stevenson (Beaud): Henderson was more productive 11-67 but Stevenson stole too many carries (12-40) for Henderson to score into the double digits.

FlyingElvis finished last for the first time of the season and dropped to 7th place in the standings, possibly losing any chance at the title because they are now 11 rank-points away from first place with 4 weeks remaining and so many teams to beat so it seems a mini-miracle would be required.  WR D London missed another game to injury and it was painful with backup Diggs only scoring 4.25 pts on MNF and failed to beat Old.  But the coach can be blamed for the monumental mistake of benching the league-leading Seahawks who were playing against the Vikings and their third string QB, in favor of the Ravens who got blown away by the Bengals.  Especially with Burrow back in the lineup, it’s unclear what the coach was thinking.  The Seahawks scored a whopping 30.5 pts on the bench against a laughable 2.5 pts from the Ravens which was the difference between 9th place and 6th place so FE lost three rank-points right there.
