Week #12

The Admirals had been flirting with first place for a while with three finishes in the blue between weeks 7-11 and two second place finishes in the last three weeks.  Finally Adm was able to put the missing pieces together with a crushing 186.75 pt performance and first place.  It came as quite a surprise considering that Josh Allen started the week catastrophically with a poor road loss on Thursday, no TD and 2 INTs for a season-low 4.25 pts, the first time all year that he does not reach double digits so it was less than half of his previously lowest score.  But that was entirely wiped out by a gargantuesque game of 47.25 pts from J Gibbs who benefited from overtime to score a long TD and seal the win for Adm.  Another unexpected contribution came from rookie Dylan Sampson who had barely done anything all year (8 straight games with 3.75 pts or less) but suddenly he scored a long TD possibly the only time all year that Adm needed him as starter because Harvey was on bye and Gabriel was injured.

OldNo7 took second place and sole possession of first place in the standings considering the struggles of Decepticons.  Old has been quietly staying near first place all year but were never in first place until now.  The OldNo7 pair of WRs did a lot of work this week with 23.25 pts from Amon-Ra and 30.5 pts from JSN, who was arguably the best saved player in the entire PQBFL and if we had to redo it, he would certainly be cut!  In fact he will probably be franchise in 2026 so nobody might get the opportunity to cut him.  OldNo7 beat Bas by 0.25 pt on MNF with a critical matchup for first place in the standings when CMC easily outscored Purdy for Bas 18.5 pts to 4.75 pts.  Caleb’s 24.75 pts also helped, it’s been a yo-yo season but he continues to keep himself in the top 9 QBs in the PQBFL, now ranking 8th.

Bas had to settle for third place when Purdy fell flat on MNF as mentioned above, while Nix was on bye and Daniels was still not ready to return from injury.  The team leader for Bas this week was the oft-maligned rookie Cam Ward.  By all accounts he has had quite a shitty season but this week he shined in garbage time with 2 TDs for 22 pts and he avoided turnovers for once.  WR Pickens was the leader of the Cowboys offense with CD Lamb (Prof) dropping balls so Pickens maximized his opportunities with 21.25 pts.  It should be noted that the Bas coach can be blamed for losing against Old because the coach made the last minute change to bench Judkins (14.5 pts) and started A Jones (6.5 pts) instead.  Oops.

FE finished higher than 5th place for the first time since week #6 – it’s been a bit of a drought.  Hurts started strong against Dallas but ran out of gas and finished the game with 28.75 pts when he was previously on his way to a monster game with 3 TDs in the first 19 minutes of play.  Unfortunately he was held in check the next 41 minutes.  Josh Jacobs missed this week to injury but it did not hurt as much as expected with Etienne scoring 17.5 pts while regular starter Ja Williams scored double digits again.  The injury that stung was rather Drake London because backup Diggs only scored 3 pts which prevented FE from competing with the top three teams this week, but at least D Adams scored twice to keep FE competitive.  Jeanty also contributed with 15.75 pts and defense was strong with 14 pts from the Ravens, 12 pts from TJ Watt, 16 pts from Cashman, and 9.5 pts from B Branch.

ProfMJ finished 5th for the 4th time in the last 8 weeks; being average has not been enough for Prof to create separation from the bottom but still remain within striking distance of the leaders.  Prof starred on defense even more than FE with a huge game from M Garrett who was not benched this time and sacked the QB another 3 times plus 6 QB hits and 2 forced fumbles for 27 pts.  What a monster he’s been.  With an average of 12.9 pts per game, he’s been better than any other defensive player even all LBs except one (J Brooks, Ballers) and Brooks is not even that far ahead with 13.2 pts so it’s not outside the realm of possibilities that Garrett could end the year as best defensive player despite being a DL not LB, which is amazing.  Considering Garrett’s work, the others on defense were productive but not noticed as much: 19 pts for Franklin, 12 pts for Baun, 11 pts for the Bills, and 10 pts for Kyle Hamilton.  Offense was the sore point with no TD from rookie Shough (and 2 turnovers), Breece Hall also no TD and one fumble lost, Jameson Williams a goose egg, CD Lamb dropping passes and only scoring 7.75 pts, and Kyren Williams being seldom used for 4.75 pts.  Only Prescott got the job done with 24.5 pts.

The BeaudoinBrothers finished 6th for the second straight week with another pedestrian effort of 124.75 pts, very far behind Prof and others in the top 5 so Beaud was not a consideration at all this week and fell to 4th place in the standings.  The biggest guilty party was rookie McCarthy who was dreadful with -2.25 pts and unlike Cam Ward (Bas) he did not do anything in garbage time, in fact he continued to turn the ball over late in the game.  Meanwhile the unflashy rookie LB Schwesinger was on the bench with 12 pts but it would not have changed anything in the rankings because there were too many other holes in Beaud’s lineup.  With Gibbs performing like he does, RB Montgomery did not do much with only some crumbs and 3.5 pts.  WRs continued to be a weak point with only 14.25 pts from Collins + Flowers combined, and Waddle on bye so there was really no other option.  On defense the Lions had a juicy matchup at home versus the Giants and Dart injured so the turnover machine J Winston was throwing the rock but the Lions were awful, allowing 500+ yards of total offense to the Giants and nearly lost the game.

WaxOnWaxOff finished in the red for the first time since week #7 and fell to 8th place in the standings, unable to keep up with the surging Admirals who are playing more like a first place team than an 8th place team.  RB Barkley has been less used than last year which was to be expected, but this week he also fumbled for a final score of 4.25 pts.  So far he ranks RB14, far behind superstars such as J Taylor and Achane (Dec), Gibbs (Adm), and CMC (Old).  In fact Barkley has even been outscored by journeyman Rico Freakin Dowdle so far.  With the Vikings’ rookie QB problems, Ju Jefferson has been affected and only scored 6.25 pts even though little of it is his own fault.  Kittle had a chance on MNF to edge Beaud if only he had scored his season average but he fell short with 9.75 pts.  Another difference maker was that Wax was without a kicker this week with Lutz on bye and T Bass not having played yet this season.

The Ballers started the season reasonably well with 5th place and 5th place in weeks 1-2 but since then then finished in the red 9 times out of 10 so they are already virtually assured of finishing last for the year despite 5 weeks remaining, pending a miracle.  Ball is 24 rank-points behind Wax in 8th place and would need to beat them by 5 ranks each week which is not going to happen.  L-Jax is gimpy and only scored 4.5 pts, Swift scored in negative territory, Rome Odunze is a shell of who he was before his bye (16.3 pts average before bye, 6.5 pts average after bye) and Rome scored 5.5 pts this week.  The Ballers also had no LB to start with Luvu and Brooks both on bye and the third LB being a free agent (E Kendricks) who was known to be unemployed at the time saved players were announced.  Did Ball expect him to sign somewhere?  It has not happened.

The Decepticons finished in the red for the 3rd time in 4 weeks and last for the second time during that period and were knocked out of first place, possibly for good.  This team is way too decimated by injuries to compete for first place.  Dec led the league in injury points this week again and with the BeaudoinBrothers getting healthier (Burrow might be back next week), it’s almost a foregone conclusion that Dec will finish the year with the most injury points because Beaud will not catch up Dec in injury points.  This week with Achane on bye, Dec had to start replacement Dowdle again, he was subpar with 7.25 pts and definitely not at the level of Achane.  It was also announced that Mixon will not play this season after all, it was unclear in the preseason, but apparently they did not see this coming?  With 3/5 WRs injured Dec was down to the bare minimum and Rice + D Smith were decent with 27.25 pts but if there is one more WR injury Dec will be in big trouble, as if they are not there already.  Both of Dec’s DLs were injured this week so they scored a zero at the position and it might still be one more week before either Hendrickson or T Walker are back so pain might not be over.
