Week #10

The Decepticons bounced back from their week #9 disaster with a crushing win in week #10 and took a commanding 5-rank point lead in first place of the standings.  J Taylor was back to his normal self with 3 TDs again and an eye watering 286 yards from scrimmage and Achane would have been the star of the week with his 37.5 pts if not for Taylor himself.  Dec scored 83.5 pts from their starting RBs, almost more than Bas’ entire starting lineup, whoa!  The win was even more satisfying for Dec because Mahomes was on bye so being forced to start Tua Tago was perilous and he scored only 11.75 pts, which is half of Mahomes’ season average of 23.4 pts.

WaxOnWaxOff had their highest finish since the week #1 win.  It’s been a rough stretch from week #2 to #9 with nothing better than 4th place until this week with second place.  Both of Wax’s college players were on bye so Wax was not projecting to have a great result but in the end it did not matter.  J Dart was the team leader with 23.5 pts but another tile fell on Wax’s head when Dart was concussed and will miss next week so the hits keep coming.  Wax was boosted by several other starters scoring 20 pts or near 20 pts, such as Maye (20.25 pts), Kittle (20 pts), the Broncos defense (20 pts), and Egbuka (18.75 pts).

ProfMJ continued their recent improvement with third place.  In the last 4 weeks Prof has been the second best team, only one rank-point behind Dec so they have been tough opponents as of late.  A lot of the recent success was the return to health of CD Lamb in week #7 but it was a different issue this week because Lamb was on bye.  WR Jameson Williams filled in nicely with 17.75 pts which was his best game of the season.  The biggest difference between this Prof team and the team earlier this season is the fact that there is now a rookie worth starting.  Tyler Shough scored 2 TDs and no turnover for 24 pts which is a massive improvement over all the others that Prof started previously.

OldNo7 had a moderately above average week with 4th place and gained some ground on FE, Beaud, and Bas in the standings.  Rookie T Henderson has been a beneficiary of the injury to R Stevenson (Beaud) and scored 3 TDs for 31 pts now that he has a bigger workload.  It seems clear that Henderson will stay in place even after Stevenson returns because the genie cannot be put back in the bottle, which is even better news for Old.  QB Caleb has had an up and down season but this week was mostly up with 2 TDs although it was against the Giants defense so not overly surprising.

FlyingElvis finished 5th for the second straight week and in the middle pack (4th-5th-6th) for the fourth straight week.  Despite the average finish, FE was able to take advantage of the Bastards woes to leapfrog Bas and now sits in 4th place in the standings.  Similar to Wax, FE had both college players on bye so there were some headwinds but FE finished moderately far from Old that it’s unlikely FE could have beat Old even with an active college starter.  The biggest production came from an unexpected source with the Seahawks defense scoring twice for 21 pts.  They are quietly doing quite well this season, ranking DEF2 not far behind the Texans (Adm).  FE’s core players RB-RB-WR-WR all had decent but not flashy games with scores ranging from 12.5 pts (Jacobs and Etienne) to 14.75 pts (D Adams) and 19 pts (D London).

The Admirals had several bad underperformers this week such as AJ Brown 2.5 pts, R Doubs 1.25 pts, and rookie Harvey 1.75 pts, but they were partially saved by the huge game by J Gibbs who scored 3 TDs and 37 pts, which did not get as much mention simply because Dec’s RBs were even better but Gibbs alone saved several ranks for Adm this week.  As mentioned above the best defense in the PQBFL so far has been the Texans and they delivered this week again with 14 pts thanks to a last second TD to ice the game.

The BeaudoinBrothers struggled to 7th place so their time in first place was short lived.  Like many other teams the Bros had an incomplete lineup with one kicker on bye and one injured.  But the bigger problem was star TE Bowers who followed up his monster game of 35.5 pts in week #9 with a dud of 2.25 pts this week.  The Bros could have beat Adm if they had started the Chargers defense (21 pts) against the Steelers instead of the Lions (6 pts) against the Commanders so the coach is partially to blame.  Newly acquired QB Stafford via trade did his part with 32 pts but it was not enough to overcome the pedestrian efforts from D Henry (8.25 pts), Montgomery (9 pts) and Flowers (9.5 pts).

The Ballers finished in the red for the 7th time in the last 8 weeks although their score of 129.75 pts deserved a better outcome.  The short term optimism after L Jax’s healthy return in week #9 was short lived.  He only scored 14.75 pts this week which was significantly below his projection. He did not have a bad game but he simply did not need to do much as the Ravens nursed a lead all game long against the Vikings so he was a game manager.  Another problem this week was the play of RB James Cook.  He is having a franchise-player worthy season but this week he was not, with a poor game : no TD and a fumble lost for a total of only 4.5 pts which was below his projection by an even greater margin than L-Jax.  It was Cook’s worst game of the season and it was not against stiff competition – the Dolphins are beatable.

The stunning debacle of the GloriousBastards continued this week with last place and a piss-poor 87.25 pts which was the worst result of any PQBFL team all year.  What a fall from grace for Bas in only three weeks when they were sitting pretty in first place and now they find themselves in 5th place and closer to 6th than 4th so they might not have hit rock bottom yet considering how Prof is trending up.  The Bastards have great starters but weak backups and it has finally caught up combined with injuries.  With J Chase on bye, Bas did not have many other options because Pickens and Worthy were also on bye which was a draft issue.  It only took one injury to Evans to wreck the starting lineup and force DJ Moore into action and he was utterly useless: 4 targets, no reception.  The other starting WR had a better excuse, G Wilson got injured during the game before only scoring a single point but anyway Bas finished so far behind Ball that it was a non-event.  With both Purdy and Daniels injured, Nix got the call and he is normally a decent plug-in QB (he ranks QB12 so far) but not this time.  The Broncos beat the Raiders but it was an unimpressive 1 TD 2 INT game for Nix.  Rookie Cam Ward was on bye and Bas is so thin after being forced to graduate Judkins (8.5 pts this week) that rookie Tuten had to start.  The result was predictable: only one point.
