Week #8

Weekly summary provided by FE this week, thank you!

Interesting developments in the PQBFL headlined by a stunning 9th place finish by the prior league leader Glorious Bastards dropping him out of the lead and allowing the Decepticons to jump into a 4-rank point lead. The 2-4 spots are still very tight between the Bastards, Beaudoin Bros and Flying Elvis (48, 47 and 45 pts) and then a slight drop off to Old No 7 at 5th behind first place by 11 pts. The 6 – 9 teams have more work to do to get into the mix. Interesting weeks with all of the byes going on and this contributes to a lot of change in the weekly outcomes.

This week the Decepticons break into the win column, becoming the 6th team to get a win in the 8 weeks of play so far. The NFL likes parity and it seems the PQBFL is there already. Decept has a 4-rank point lead now in the league after not-so-good performances by 3 of the previous top 5 teams. Decept got another outstanding week from Jonathan Taylor (RB#1) with 2 TDs rushing and 1 receiving to grab 37.25 points, and an unlikely source of production came from the LB spot with Robert Spillane of the Pats scoring 21 pts with an outstanding game including a INT. Rashee Rice and the Chiefs had a good MNF game although it started slowly, with 20.25 for Rice and 16 for KC DST. Though Decept only has two QBs, both are productive and Tua even outscored Mahomes on the bench this week. Good production from all but a few players pushed Decept to a nice 183.5-point week.

Professor MJ took 2nd with a 169.5 total on big games from Breece Hall and Justin Herbert. This was a welcome relief for MJ as his team had had a rough patch between weeks 3-7 with 3 bottom-2 finishes in that time. Hall had a big game in the Jets 1st win of the season over the Bengals who must be hanging their heads in shame. The Patriots D also shined with the previously mentioned INT from Spillane but for those who watched that game (the writer being one) it was a teacher-student game for Myles Garrett of the Browns who completely used left tackle Will Campbell for the entire game. 5 sacks, 6 tackles, and a forced fumble gave him 29 points for the week. The Professor didn’t have much of a rookie this week with Shedeur still riding the pine and Horton on bye. Had he started Shough he could have gotten 2.5 as the Saints pulled Rattler due to poor performance. Professor is now in 6th overall.

The Beaudoin Bros scored 150.5 for a 3rd place finish this week on the continued unexpected stardom of Daniel Jones. The Colts are looking formidable in a really competitive AFC right now. 3 TDs and no INTs brings him a nice 28.25 week. D Henry and the Ravens woke up with a much needed victory over the Bears, Henry had two TDs for 17 pts, and both receivers Waddle and Flowers were able to get double digits. BB must be sour on Kelce because he sat him and had he not he would have gained a rank point over Prof since Kelce had a 17 pt performance and starter Ferguson only got 1. BB not a Swifty 😊! Chargers D had a good game contributing 16.5 and the rookie Schwesinger added 10 as well as college player Williams adding 9.75 in a very productive week for a college player. BB is now in 3rd place, 5 rank points behind Decept.

Wax had an unfortunate coaching mishap this week at the QB position. Though Baker has been reliable, this week he had an abysmal 2 points where the other 2 QBs on Wax’s roster had outstanding games, with Love getting 32 and stud Drake Maye getting 26.75. This team is loaded at the QB position. Had Wax started either QB he would have gained an additional rank point. Saquon Barkley had an outstanding game with 30.25 on two TDs including a long 65 yd run for 150 rush yds. A solid WR corps underperformed a bit this week with JuJeff only getting 10.5 due to a hurt Wentz at QB, and Sutton only pulled in 7.25. The other WRs on this team all had double digits so there is depth there. Kittle had a good game and the IDP positions were somewhat milk-toast but all totaled got 32 points. Rookie Jaxson Dart continues to shine for the Giants but the loss of Skattebo hurts that team badly. Wax is in 7th place overall with a lot of ground to gain.

The Ballers tied their best week of the season with a 5th place finish mostly due to a crazy big game from James Cook who feasted on the lowly Panthers. 216 rushing yards is, I believe, a season high in the NFL for the year. Cook is RB#2 so Ballers have a real keeper there. Rodgers had just an ok game with 19.25 in their loss to the Packers, but Ballers had no other options at the QB position with byes and injuries taking all other options out. The WR position hurt this team badly this week with Odunze getting 12.5 and Jerry Jeudy essentially being benched (0 points overall) and all others injured or on bye. On the defensive side of the ball Jordyn Brooks had a nice game with 16 points, and kicker Cameron Dicker had 3 FGs made and 4 PATs for 12.5. Unfortunately for the Ballers they are in last by 5 rank points with a difficult hill to climb.

Flying Elvis came in 6th place this week and just a few weeks ago was looking very strong but the worm has seemingly turned. Hurts continues to perform well with another strong performance (31.75 with 4 TDs) but the WR position hurt Elvis with Davante on bye and Drake London injured. Elvis had to use Stefon Diggs (9.5) and Marvin Mims (dreadful 0.75 pts) and even if he used Hollywood Brown instead he would have only got 1 pt, so there were no alternatives. Jacobs had only 9.5 in the Packers big win and Javonte Williams who has surprised this year (despite being called Elvis’s worst pick in the draft!) had 14.75. At IDP Bobby Wagner continues to be great, pulling down 15 pts, and Elvis made the right call with late lineup changes putting Goedart (15.25pts) in instead of Andrews (3 pts) and K McLaughlin (12.5) instead of Butker (4).

7th place went to the Admirals as they continue to struggle despite having Josh Allen at QB. While good, he doesn’t seem to be as great as Admirals had hoped, though he is QB4. The RB situation continues to be a difficult one with the exception of Gibbs who was on bye this week. Rachaad White and Nick Chubb combined for only 12.75. Good news is Bigsby got some snaps and ran for 104 yds so maybe some daylight for Admirals at RB. The AJ Brown injury is a huge one  at WR and the duo of Romeo Doubs and Tee Higgins only combined for 18pts this week. On the IDP side of the ball the team combined for 32.5 which is good production, and Admirals have two nice rookie options with RJ Harvey (on bench with 23 pts this week) and Dillon Gabriel who started with 13.25.

Old No 7 slid to 8th and has had a couple of bad weeks in a row. Chase Brown had a nice game at RB with 2 TDs and 21.5 pts. K Chris Boswell continues to be productive with 14.5 but the Steelers D had a dreadful -1 pt and not one IDP player broke into the double digits.  This team had a lot of players on bye this week, and the only available QB Caleb Williams, who likely would have started anyway, was relegated to 8.75 pts by a revived Ravens D. A lot of players on this team with single digit scores which never bodes well for a weekly total.

Wiping up the rear this week was, incredibly, the Glorious Bastards who had a first to worst weekly turnaround and they fell out of first place because of it. Bo Nix had another good week with 29 pts and the WRs Chase and Pickens picked up 27.25 but a dreadful week at the RB position was costly. Bijan did nothing with 1.75 and Jordan Mason only had 1.5 for a total of 3.25 pts from both RBs. On IDP a total of 11 pts included an in-game injury to Derwin James who pulled up a goose egg. Cam Ward at the rookie position managed 10.75 and the college player Arch Manning put up a decent 8.25. This was a pretty shocking score for the team that was sitting pretty after just last week.
