Week #7
After a couple of mediocre weeks the GloriousBastards are back on
top and asserted their dominance with a near 200 point week.
Franchise player J Chase originally was affected by Burrow’s injury
but with the Bengals trading for Flacco it does not seem like he
will miss much. This week he was targeted a whopping 23 times
and converted 16 of them into receptions with 1 TD for 29 pts.
TE McBride almost did as well with 2 TDs and 25.5 pts.
Previous rookie Judkins scored 3 TDs of his own for 26.25 pts; since
then Bas is forced to start rookie Ward and as long as Ward scores
about the same as RB J Mason on the bench then having moved Judkins
to RB will be fine. This week Ward was so-so again with 9.5
pts but not very different than Mason on the RB bench with 10.5
pts. Bas also had a good week on defense with 3 sacks from
Parsons who got a rare start due to T Bernard being on bye and
Warner being injured. DL D Brown was also dominant with 2
sacks and 3 passes defended.
The Decepticons are the hottest team in the PQBFL with a fourth
straight top 3 finish and nearly topping Bas with 194.75 pts which
was by far Dec’s best score of the year. In almost any week
this would have been enough for the win but not this time. The
‘Cons scored 12 TDs with nearly everyone contributing except TE
Pitts who was held out of the end zone but reached double digit
score nonetheless so he did not have a bad game. The best RB
in the league J Taylor was at it again with 3 more TDs.
DeVonta Smith scored on a long TD for 26 pts and Rashee Rice made
his 2025 season debut with a splash for 2 TDs and 19 pts, and
Mahomes had another TD pass to another receiver for a total of 3
TDs. Rookie Skattebo had another good game with 15.25 pts
which was even more impressive considering it was on the road
against the Broncos. Dec needed just a bit more to beat Bas
and we can look on the defensive side of the ball for the
explanation. With Hendrickson injured, backup Travon Walker
started but only scored 1 point. Also defensive flex Spillane
only scored 2 pts with TJ Edwards scoring 10 pts on the bench.
The Admirals finished in the blue for the first time of the season
and are now within striking distance of Wax and Prof in 6th and 7th
place in the standings, both of which are only 2 rank-points ahead
of Adm. It is amazing that Adm could have their best week of
the season exactly when Josh Allen was on bye. Considering
that Russell Wilson is useless, it forced the putrid Justin Freakin
Fields into the starting lineup. The result: a mind boggling
46 passing yards and 22 rushing yards, no TD. To add insult to
injury, it was at home against the weak Panthers. Wow.
But the good news is that Fields did not turn the ball over so he
had a positive score this week LOL so the glass was 50% full, or
perhaps it would be more accurate to say the glass was 5%
full. Adm was able to beat Beaud on MNF thanks to a big game
from J Gibbs who scored 34.75 pts while the Lions co-RB Montgomery
who was also in the starting lineup only scored 3.75 pts so the
Lions RBs were the entire difference between 3rd and 4th place this
week for Adm/Beaud. AJ Brown also had a rare good week with 2
TDs for 24 pts but he still has quite a hill to climb as he’s only
WR25 in the league which is awful for a franchise player.
The BeaudoinBrothers had some ups and downs this week and settled
for 4th place. The highlight of the week was Travis Hunter
finally scoring his first TD of the year, belatedly, for a total of
21.5 pts. Prior to that he was ranking DB9 which is quite poor
for a borderline starter at such unimportant position and being a
4th round pick. Now he has surged to DB4 and 2/3 DBs ahead of
him have only played 3-4 games which means only one DB has scored
more total points than Hunter and it’s the DB elite Derwin James
(Bas) so suddenly Hunter has a shot at making his draft status look
less bad. The Bros also got a positive contribution from RB
Stevenson who scored 13.75 pts. Yes, it was only the Titans
defense that he beat up on. But early in the season it looked
like rookie T Henderson (Old) was going to become the Pats’ starting
RB but that seems like a folly now. This week Stevenson got 20
total touches against only 2 for Henderson. So Stevenson is
the clear starter in New England and the offense is clicking so
Stevenson might have found himself a permanent spot in the Bros’
starting lineup with Montgomery being in the shadow of Gibbs and
Hubbard being gimpy and increasingly in the shadow of another RB
(Dowdle), like Montgomery. The sole reason why the Bros did
not finish higher than 4th was piss poor play from WRs.
Pearsall and Aiyuk are injured, Flowers was on bye, Nico Collins
also got injured during the game and only scored 5.25 pts.
Waddle is healthy but he is part of the dumpster fire of Dolphins
offense and only scored 1.75 pts.
ProfessorMJ showed signs of life with 5th place led by the return to
health of CD Lamb who scored 18.5 pts which also helped starting QB
Prescott put 27.25 pts on the board. That said, both Stafford
and Herbert did even better on the bench than Prescott did as a
starter. Prof is stacked at QB with 3 of the top 11 QBs in the
league, while having a continued problem at the rookie position with
all 4 scoring a goose egg, including starter Tory Horton who could
not catch any of his 3 targets. It also did not help that DB
Kyle Hamilton was on bye and that regular starter Julian Love was
injured but such is the hazard of only drafting 2 DBs while loading
up on other positions during the draft. There were some good
news for Prof this week though, including the Pats defense easily
beating their already high projection against the Titans with a
dominant win and 20 pts.
After 4 straight weeks in the top 3, FE stumbled to 6th place which
could have been worse because FE beat Old by only half a
point. We could have expected much better from FE considering
the Hurts had his best game of the year with 31.75 pts thanks to 3
TDs, no turnover, and over 300 passing yards so for once his scoring
was not simply a bunch of 1-yard tush push scores. Josh Jacobs
scored twice for 15.75 pts, Javonte Williams scored again for 16.75
pts, and Davante Adams took maximum advantage of Nacua (Ball) being
sidelined with 3 TDs. The problems for FE were mostly that
rookie Jeanty was bottled up with only 3.25 pts and poor defense
notably 2 pts from DL J Simmons, 3 pts from TJ Watt, and 8 pts from
B Wagner which was below his projection. Back to Jeanty, while
he had a good stretch from week 4-6, he’s still ranked only ROO7 so
not good enough for franchise player status and it’s also unclear
that he will be of the caliber of franchise player as a RB in 2026
unless he picks up his game in the second half of the season.
Between weeks 2-6, no team had more rank-points in the PQBFL than
OldNo7 with 35, but Old’s string of success came to an end this week
with 7th place. Old’s WRs almost saved the day on MNF with 22
pts from JSN and 18.25 pts from Amon-Ra which was roughly 10 pts
more than their combined projection. However it was too little
too late for beating of Prof and FE. CMC is the one who
started the late rally on SNF with 30 pts, but prior to that on
Sunday early afternoon the results were catastrophic for Old for
example only 1 point for QB Caleb Williams at home against the
Saints. The Saints! One point! Prior to this week
Caleb was arguably starting level QB at 6th best in the league but
now he’s been knocked off his pedestal down to QB14 which is where
he belongs: a backup QB, not a starter. Old also had problems
on defense with a goose egg from the Steelers, only 1 point from
Karlaftis, and 2 pts from Tuipulotu. But the main event of the
week was not any of this, it was the surprising decision by Old’s GM
to elevate Tyler Warren from rookie to TE. That puts pressure
on Tetairoa McMillan as the lone startable rookie and he failed this
week with only 4.5 pts. Meanwhile, by starting Warren as TE it
left Tucker Kraft on the bench with 12.75 pts which was even better
than Warren with 12.25 pts. So far on the season Warren is a
better TE than Kraft but barely: 10.7 to 10.1. So why bother
making this move? Kraft was a fine starter, ranking TE5 in the
league.
WaxOnWaxOff finished in the bottom 4 for the 5th time in the last 6
weeks so the opening week win with 185.25 pts is a very distant
memory by now. TE Kittle came back to health this week and
given how poorly the backups have done in his absence, at first it
seemed like good news. But he might as well stayed on IR
because he scored a goose egg while Jonnu Smith chose that exact
moment to score a TD while averaging a bottom of barrel 3.6 pts per
game during Kittle’s absence from week 2 to 6 – what a loser.
But part of Wax’s problem this week was entirely related to the
coach. Egbuka was questionable so the coach can be forgiven
for having benched him. Egbuka ended up playing but was not
that great anyway with 6.75 pts. However, how in the world can
Wax start a rookie LB (Jihaad Campbell) when Jaxson Dart had been
fairly impressive since Russell Wilson has been benched? Dart
averaged 19.5 pts on average in weeks 4-5-6 so no way he should have
been benched in favor of a rookie LB. The only logical
explanation is that Dart was playing the Broncos and the coach might
be too much in love with his defense but that created a double
whammy here: the Broncos were busted with only 4 pts, leaving Dallas
on the bench with 15 pts, and Dart’s 34.25 pts were wasted on the
bench while Jihaad Campbell scored a lowly 3 pts. Ouch.
Wax was able to avoid last place because DL W Anderson scored a TD
on MNF and 18.5 pts.
The Ballers finished in the red for the 5th straight week and
because of Adm’s good result this week, the Ballers are now firmly
in last place with only modest hope of getting out. Of course,
with Lamar Jackson on bye and Nacua injured, things were not looking
up. Goff did not need to do much on MNF because Gibbs (Adm)
was running wild and Goff finished the game with only 9.5 pts in an
easy win. At WR, Nacua is not replaceable, but even regular
starter Rome Odunze was bad with only 3.5 pts. WR Brian Thomas
was forced into action and he scored only 4.5 pts. What a
disaster he has been so far. After a very promising rookie
season in 2024 he was ranked highly heading into 2025 but he ranks
WR32 which is abysmal for a second round pick. But the Ballers
had other problems. The Vikings defense was torched by the
Eagles and only scored 4.5 pts, Hutchinson did not get a sack on MNF
in a quiet game, and Ball might alternate their starting DB all they
want between Sauce Gardner and Blankenship but both are awful with
Blankenship starting this week with 4 pts and Gardner doing a bit
better on the bench with 5.5 pts. Yes, DB is not an important
position. But when you have the 21st and 22nd DBs out of 23
DBs in the PQBFL and nobody else to start, the difference between
Sauce/Blankenship and even the weakest starting DBs (DB8-9) is
several points per week nonetheless, which stings.
