Week #2

The GloriousBastards were expected to be a top team based on preseason projections but moderately disappointed in week #1 with 4th place.  Week #2 was more in line with how things are shaping up for Bas with GB easily beating everybody else by scoring 22.5 more points than Prof in second place.  J Chase was nearly invisible in week #1 but strangely this week he lost Burrow but nonetheless exploded for 28.25 pts.  It’s on defense that Bas outperformed the most with LBs Warner + Henley combining for 39.5 pts and the Packers defense holding the Commanders to only 230 total yards of offense.  Perhaps only drafting only one team defense will not sting Bas after all, if they end up being one of the best in the league.  After 2 weeks the Packers rank #4 in the PQBFL but they played the Lions and Commanders so the numbers are more impressive than they appear strictly by looking at the numbers.  It’s not all rosy skies for Bas however because QB J Daniels got banged up this week and with Purdy being hurt as well, Bas only having Nix as healthy QB does not feel overly comfortable.

ProfMJ is the only team which finished in the blue in both weeks so far with second place this week and are now equal with Bas in the standings with 15 rank-points but Prof has scored fewer total points than Bas.  The strength of Prof is supposed to be WRs as per having franchised Nabers and Lamb and those two guys are the ones who powered Prof this week as they should, with a total of 48.75 pts combined.  As mentioned last week, the weakness is as clear as the strength, this week again rookies hardly scored any points but this week was a bit different because Tory Horton caught a TD pass so Prof got some production out of the position.  However Horton only caught 2 of Darnold’s 22 passes so it’s hard to imagine this will be replicated again often during the season unless Horton becomes more involved in the Seahawks offense.

OldNo7 bounced back nicely after last place in week #1 by taking 3rd place in week #2.  Amon-Ra was pedestrian in week #1 with only 7.25 pts but it was night & day this week with the star WR scoring 30 pts in a blowout win against the Bears.  Old’s coach decided to bench Njoku after his sorry 4.75 pt performance in week #1 and it paid off because backup T Kraft scored 17 pts this week.  It’s still early days but Kraft ranks TE1 in the entire PQBFL so “backup” might not be a word that should be associated with Kraft anymore.  CMC was another who contributed to the top 3 finish this week with over 100 yards from scrimmage and a TD.

Nothing can kill a week as much as losing a starting QB in the first half to injury, but the Bros nonetheless escaped with 4th place this week which is not too bad in the circumstances.  Beaud would have probably finished 3rd if not for Burrow’s injury, but unlikely any higher because Bas and Prof were too far ahead.  Losing Burrow long-term sinks the Bros’ chances this year however regardless of the week #2 decent result because backups T Lawrence and CJ Stroud were not ranked highly before the season started and so far they rank 20/28 and 24/28 in the PQBFL so that view has not changed.  In week #1, rookie McCarthy had some magic in the 4th quarter to propel the Bros to second place but there was no such thing this week.  McCarthy was terrible with a negative score and even got injured during the game, which further dooms Beaud’s propects and they can no longer be considered contenders.

The Ballers finished 5th for the second straight week with 131.5 pts which was moderately above what the team scored in week #1.  L-Jax was lights out again with 33.75 pts and this week he had a bit more support from others than last week, thanks to 25 pts from James Cook and 22.75 pts from Nacua.  The tempering factor however is that D Adams actually had more targets than Nacua (13 to 9) and more receiving yards (106 to 91) unlike week #1, which was very lopsided in favor of Nacua.  What saved Nacua this week is that he scored a long TD on a run, not a reception.  Ball would have finished higher this week if not for bad defense, with Hutchinson being the top score with only 6 pts, while the Vikings (5.5 pts) and Chris Jones (5 pts) mildly underperformed, and Luvu + Blankenship were nearly useless with a couple of points each.

WaxOnWaxOff was unable to follow-up the week #1 win with another good week, this time Wax finished 6th and nearly avoided finishing in the red with Dec not far behind.  Thankfully the Bucs starters for Wax did ok on MNF to avoid a disastrous week with 21.75 pts from Mayfield, 12 pts from Bucky Irving, and rookie Egbuka scoring again for 11.25 pts.  The season is young but so far Egbuka is far and away the best rookie, 4.5 pts more per game than second place McCarthy who is now injured so Egbuka will be far more useful in the weeks to come than McCarthy regardless of their average so far.  In third place is a rookie kicker (T Loop – Dec) so it’s safe to say there is no viable rookie to challenge Egbuka at the moment.

The Decepticons finished 7th this week with 129.5 pts which is a pity because 4th-5th-6th were all pretty close and within reach.  Dec only needed 7 more points to finish 4th instead of 7th.  Part of what hurt Dec was the coach benching Tyreek Hill at the last minute in favor of D Smith.  It’s not that Hill had a big week (11.25 pts) but Smith was materially worse with only 6.5 pts.  Also the coach trusted TJ Edwards after he missed game 1 with a hamstring injury.  Perhaps the coach should have known better than starting a banged up LB, Edwards re-injured himself and only scored 4 pts, leaving 3 other LBs on the bench with better scores than Edwards, which was costly.

FlyingElvis finished 8th for the second straight week.  Last week there were a number of reasons to expect an improvement but it’s not looking as good this week.  The Eagles seem content to play a super conservative offense which means Hurts hardly throws the ball (only 101 passing yards this week!) and even scoring a TD on the ground for Hurts did not prevent a piss-poor score of 8.25 pts considering he’s supposed to be a blue chip QB.  Another problem is Drake London who only caught three passes due to the Falcons likewise playing conservative and keeping it on the ground, but London made it worse for himself by fumbling a rare pass which he caught.  Then there is the TE situation.  Goedert is injured, Waller  has not seen the field yet, and Mark Andrews scored a shocking ONE point (one reception for 2 yards) in a home game against the lowly Browns when the Ravens scored 41 pts and backup TE Likely was not even in uniform to take paying time away from Andrews.  Holy shit.  Andrews is looking like pure dead wood at this stage.

The Admirals finished last this week and are now tied in last place with TE with only 4 rank-points after two weeks.  The problem is that the Bills had a game which was too easy against the Jets so Josh Allen did not need to do much other than hand off to James Cook (Ball) all game long; Allen ended with only 10.5 pts.  WR AJ Brown was better than week #1 but still way short of being startable with only 6.25 pts.  LaPorta might be an even worse problem because similar to Andrews, LaPorta only scored 4.25 pts in a game where the Lions threw for 5 TDs.  One rare good news was that Gibbs got on track with 15.25 pts by scoring a rushing TD early in that same game before Goff (Ball) decided to unleash it later in the game.
