Week #1
WaxOnWaxOff began 2025 with a splash by scoring 185.25 pts and
beating all other teams by more than 30+ pts so it was not even
close, showing they are dead serious about repeating with another
PQBFL title. It’s not every week that Wax’s Bucs players will
turn 3 TDs into 6, like this week when all 3 of Mayfield’s TDs were
passes to B Irving or rookie Egbuka. But nonetheless Wax would
have won easily so it did not matter. Wax also played rock
solid defense with everybody scoring at least 11 pts even the
Broncos defense scoring 16 pts against the toothless Titans.
There is now a little bit of a dark cloud however with TE Kittle
getting injured after starting hot with 10.25 pts. Backup
Jonnu Smith did even better with 10.75 pts but such production will
be hard to keep up.
The BeaudoinBrothers had some hiccups in week #1 including Burrow
only scoring 9 pts, and the Bros were trending to finish 4th before
the start of MNF. Both Prof and Bas were ahead of Beaud before
MFN and since Prof-Bas were so close to each other, Beaud could only
finish 2nd or 4th and could not sneak in between. Rookie
McCarthy had a dreadful start including a pick-6 but came back
roaring in his NFL debut with a 3-TD performance in the 4th quarter
to finish the game with 25.25 pts, the best score of any rookie this
week ahead of Egbuka (Wax). Also notable was the 30-point
effort by old man King Henry who showed he’s still worth franchise
status but he fumbled late in the game and caused his team to lose
so it was not all glory.
ProfMJ edged Bas by the slimmest of margins 147.25 to 147 to secure
3rd place. Things started on the right foot on Friday with Ju
Herbert dominating the Chiefs with 31.5 pts and he celebrated the
return of K Allen plus the continued growth of McConkey and
Johnston. This could be a dangerous offense all year.
Prof also had bright spots on defense such as Julian Love’s 18 pts
which was the best defensive score of any position, followed not far
behind by M Garrett’s 16 pts. However the biggest problem this
week was exactly the same as mentioned in the draft analysis:
rookies. All 4 of Prof’s rookies combined for a grand total of
ONE point this week, three of them scoring a goose egg including
this week’s starter Tory Horton who had one punt return and a fair
catch, nothing else. Not even a target as a WR, let alone a
catch.
The GloriousBastards are supposed to be among the 2025 favorites
based on preseason projections but disappointed mildly in week #1
with 4th place. There were two big underperformers that stood
out. First, how in the world could J Chase only score 3.25 pts
against the Browns? In all of 2024, he scored 8.5 pts 16/17
weeks. To add to Bas’ woes, as is often the case, rookie QBs
can bomb out especially if playing a tough defense. Cam Ward
was the perfect example with only 112 passing yards, no rushing
yards, and one fumble lost. This could have been foreseen
against the Broncos but Bas does not have other rookies worth
starting at least not yet because Judkins was not in uniform.
The other rookie Tuten was only third string RB for the Jaguars so
it would not have made sense to start him but he still outscored
Ward 1.0 to 0.5 was which was the difference with Prof who beat Bas
by 0.25.
The Ballers took 5th place and edged Dec, Adm, and FE in the tight
pack of teams from 5th to 8th place this week. Ball had 4
starters on MNF and all of them underperformed relative to their
projections but did barely enough to hold on to 5th place. The
Vikings defense was the best of the four with 8 pts while Loveland
(2.5 pts), Swift (6.5 pts), and Hockenson (3.75 pts) were all a let
down. Ball was able to finish in the middle mostly because of
L-Jax who outscored all players in the PQBFL but one (Josh Allen)
with 33.75 pts. In that same game, Cook’s 15 pts helped to
some extent as well. Nacua’s 16.5 pts was a positive as well
and the calls for D Adams to cut into his workload appear to have
been exaggerated.
The Decepticons finished less than one point behind Ball but beat
Adm by 0.25 pt so cannot complain too much of being unlucky.
Mahomes was the only starter to significantly exceed his projection
with 28.5 pts and the majority of the others on offense were mostly
in line except perhaps Tyreek Hill who sucked like the rest of the
Dolphins with only 6 pts. However the good news is that there
are rumors he is being shopped around to KC which would help his
situation. The rookie position was also a problem for Dec who
drafted quantity over quantity. Starter Hampton only scored 6
pts and backups Skattebo + Burden +Mason Taylor + Milroe combined
for a paltry 3.75 pts on the bench so none of them could have
helped. Ironically the best rookie of the week out of all 6 on
Dec’s roster was none other than a freakin rookie kicker Tyler Loop
who scored 10 pts.
The Admirals started 2025 in the red with 7th place with 123.5 pts
which was below their weekly projection. Nobody can point the
finger at Josh Allen who was lights out with 38 pts this week in a
stellar effort to beat the Ravens. But the skill position
players RB+WRs combined for a laughable 12.25 pts for all four
together, even star franchise player J Gibbs hardly did anything
with 5 pts. On defense the only good score was 16.5 pts from
Nick Bosa while the other three individual defenders scored in a
range of 5.5 to 7.5 pts so nothing to write home about and all below
projections.
FlyingElvis finished near the bottom this week with a very
disappointing 119.75 pts. For such a low score, one would
think that scanning FE’s roster it would be littered with bad news,
but surprisingly it’s not the case. Hurts did his standard
thing with two rushing scores on the ground so the game plan has not
changed from 2024 and he can be relied upon to continue being a top
QB. RB Etienne was a big surprise by pushing Bigsby aside so
much with 156 yards from scrimmage that Bigsby even got traded away
after the game, paving the way for Etienne for the rest of the
season. He now has the looks of a blue chip starting RB which
are hard to come by. Josh Jacobs was solid against the tough
Lions defense and scored a TD. The Ravens defense was poor
with a negative score but the blame can be put on the coach who
should have started the Seahawks instead who had 9.5 pts on the
bench. This call alone was worth 3 spots in the standings this
week and one can optimistically assume that this is a one-off
mistake not to be repeated going forward. Rookie Jeanty was
heavily involved in the game but mostly held in check with 9 pts, it
does not take a big leap of faith to expect a greener outlook in the
next few weeks based on usage alone.
Similar to FE, Old had a poor result this week but there are reasons
to not be very pessimistic. All 4 of Old’s QBs finished in the
top half of the 28 drafted QBs in the PQBFL, the worst of the lot
being Geno Smith with 17 pts which is not bad at all and in fact
better than what his projection was. The best news was about
the injury concerns around CMC evaporating following his heavy
involvement in the game with a total of 142 yds from
scrimmage. He did not score, but that will come sooner rather
than later. Smith-Njigba saw no negative impact of the arrival
of Cooper Kupp and a new QB throwing him the rock, if anything that
might all be a positive. JSN accounted for 13/22 targets from
Darnold and 124 out of 150 passing yards so almost nobody but him
caught anything during the game. Old will need better
production from rookie T Henderson who was limited to 5 pts and
played fewer snaps than his teammate R Stevenson (Beaud).
However Henderson was the more productive of the two so it’s
realistic to project an increase in workload for the rookie.
