Week #18

WaxOnWaxOff are  champions 2024!  It’s been 7 years, Wax is back on top!  The race was close for a while but Wax clearly pulled away late in the season particularly from weeks #11-17 by finishing top 2 in six of those 7 weeks, making week #18 almost a formality.  Wax avoided finishing in the bottom 3 all year so they were clearly the most consistent team in the league.  Wax did not need to do much this week, in fact even if Wax had finished last, considering that Beaud did not do too well, Wax would have won anyway because Bas was too far behind before week 18 started.  This week the Broncos defense was dominant with 19 pts but it was a disgusting display of football when the Chiefs benched everybody and their mother, which paved the way for the Broncos to blank the Chiefs which can only be explained by the good luck of scheduling and playing the Chiefs in week #18 and not earlier in the year.  Bas previously suggested to end the PQBFL season at week #17 and ignore week #18 results.  This KC-DEN game will not take any arguments away from Bas.  But it’s clear Wax did not need this to win the league, it was a clear win and they deserve all the credit.

The GloriousBastards won week #18 and took second place in the final standings, safely ahead of Beaud by beating them by 4 rank-points.  Kudos to Bas for scoring the most total points in the season by edging Wax 2781.25 to 2776.5.  Unfortunately Bas could not keep the race close until week #17 because they were less consistent than Wax.  In week #18, Bas similarly benefited from the travesty of the KC-DEN game with Bo Nix scoring 37.25 pts which was obviously his best output of the season, but a phony performance.  Same comments as above: Bas was beating Beaud anyway, so thankfully there was no consequence on the final standings.  Bijan had the best “real” performance of the week for Bas with 24.25 pts because Bo Nix had to be ignored.  Bas previously expressed frustration that Bijan has not delivered on franchise player status, but this is puzzling.  Bijan finished RB4 which is not that bad, and this kind of ranking firmly deserves one of the two franchise player tags each team has.  J Chase also scored 21.75 pts which is better than his season average of 19.4 pts.  Chase finished the year 3.7 pts ahead of C Godwin (Old) which was the most dominant of any position, therefore he technically wins the crown for PQBFL MVP.  Godwin only played 7 games, so if we ignore him, Amon-Ra (Old) was next in line but then Chase’s dominance was really 4.5 pts per week.  Bas was loaded with their two franchise players, no doubt.

The BeaudoinBrothers limped off with 7th place in week #18 and did not even make an attempt to beat Wax in the final week which was only an outside shot anyway.  With Hurts injured and Stroud not having anything to play for, Beaud took Darnold as a replacement player but he stunk with only 6.25 pts in what will be his lone appearance in Beaud uniform.  Bas did better by picking up Flacco (16.75 pts) but all of it was moot.  Even though King Henry ended the year in good fashion with 26.25 pts to end at RB3, the rest of Beaud’s lineup was falling apart with Ty Hill refusing to play in the 4th quarter, Kelce being benched, Jayden Daniels exiting early, and Beaud only having the bare minimum of 4 active IDP out of 9 with 5 being rested or injured.

Dec had a rough season start and were never really in contention, but finished a respectable 4th.  This week Dec finished 2nd which was the third consecutive top 3 finish.  Dec could not do miracles with Tua Tago injured and J Love getting hurt himself and exiting early.  However Dec was boosted by D London who scored 33.25 pts with his new QB Penix (Beaud) which is promising for 2025.  Also DL Hendrickson was a monster with 3.5 sacks and 5 QB hits for 21.5 pts.  Too bad the Bengals did not make the playoffs because they could have been fun to watch.  If we ignore injured Hutchinson (Adm), Hendrickson’s late push wins him the award as best DL, in front of blue chips Crosby (FE), N Bosa (Wax), and M Garrett (Prof).

Before the final week, FE trailed Old by 1 rank-point.  FE beat Old by 2 spots in the final week so they secured 5th place for the season.  This was quite unexpected because Josh Allen barely played and Daniel Jones watches football from home, so Bryce Freakin’ Young was the only option at QB for FE.  One has to admit though, after a catastrophic season start, Young has not been too bad after his week #11 bye and his early season benching.  His average from week #12-18 has been 20.9 pts per week which if projected over the full season it would be QB5, therefore worthy of starting QB.  This week he destroyed the Falcons with 5 TDs and no turnover for 39.25 pts, his best game of the season.  A couple of months ago, Young looked like a worthless QB but now it’s not so clear.  It seems like a saved player spot is not so stupid anymore.  He did ok even without star receivers which is notable.

OldNo7 finished 6th this week and therefore lost 5th place to FE to also finish the season in 6th place.  The season was in jeopardy from start to finish when CMC was unexpectedly hurt which was not known at draft time, so Old never really had a chance to defend their PQBFL title.  From that point on, injuries did not let up.  Old finished far and away #1 in injury points so that will help in the 2025 draft.   Even this week Old was missing a starting DL and only scored 1 pt at DB because both Ju Reid and T McDuffie were benched by KC in their shameful game.  With a DL and DB, Old could have beat FE, who knows.

ProfMJ was already locked into 7th place so the 8th place finish this week was irrelevant.  If we keep an eye on 2025, the success of Ju Herbert in the absence of Prescott was promising.  His young WRs are developing nicely and he scored 27 pts this week to finish QB7 in the PQBFL and on the uptrend.  Rookie M Nabers appears to be a lock for franchise player, finishing with 16 pts this week and an average of 14.2 on the season (ROO4), exactly the same as superstar Ju Jefferson (Wax) which is a no-brainer franchise player himself.

The Admirals had a good week with 3rd place which will help their 7th round draft pick in 2025, but 8th place in the standings was already a foregone conclusion.  Adm could not survive injuries, finishing 2nd in injury points.  J Gibbs ended strong with 38 pts to ensure the Lions get a bye and some rest.  He is a lock to remain franchise player.  But behind him, Adm has nobody at the RB position, everybody being useless or hurt.  K Murray had an up and down season but ended on a strong note with 32.75 pts.  His QB9 finish is borderline starting QB so maybe he will be cut.

The Ballers finished the season last to end the nightmare season with almost their lowest output of the year with 86.5 pts.  L Jax did not do as well as other weeks with 23.25 pts and it showed.  He nonetheless ended the season 3.2 pts ahead of Burrow (Old) so he was second best for MVP status and he’ll most likely be franchise player in 2025.  Ball was also affected by C Jones being benched by the Chiefs and not having another healthy DL.  But none of it mattered since the rest of Ball’s starters were horrible, such as rookie Rome (2.75 pts) who has been a big disappointment with a final ranking of ROO15, far below other rookie receivers.  Maybe a new coaching regime in Chicago could help.
