Week #17

For the second week in a row the BeaudoinBrothers got a paltry score at the QB position but were nonetheless able to finish in the top 2, this time winning the week and grabbing second place in the standings back from Bas.  However Beaud only beat Wax by 1 so with only one week remaining and trailing by 7 rank-points, the championship remains exceedingly unlikely.  Hurts missed the game to injury and Stroud did a very poor job in replacement with only 3.5 pts.  Thankfully all other offensive players contributed and beat their weekly projection, led by Tee Higgins with 30.5 pts.  It is amazing that if we ignore injured Godwin (Old), the only WR better than Higgins in the PQBFL is his Bengals teammate Chase (Bas).  Higgins missed some games while Amon-Ra and Jefferson did not, so arguably they have been more valuable, but Higgins nonetheless top them on a points per game basis.

WaxOnWaxOff almost assuredly iced the championship on MNF with 2 sacks from Nick Bosa.  Wax was trending to finish 4th this week but instead took 2nd place.  Wax has been on a tear recently with a top 2 finish for 4 straight weeks and in 6 of the last 7.  Unless Wax suffers from a catastrophic collapse, the crown is almost in the bag.  Who would have thought that Baker Mayfield would be the cornerstone to Wax’s success?  He was taken in the 9th round of the draft and he has completely changed Wax’s season.  Anthony Richardson is barely hanging on to his starting job in Indy and Stafford has been inconsistent with a rank of QB18 in the league.  Mayfield’s surprising dominance even after Godwin went down has been a massive accomplishment and considering that he’s beating even franchise player J Hurts (Beaud) then QB play alone was the difference maker between Beaud and Wax at the top of the standings.  This week Wax had subpar games from many offensive players besides rookie B Thomas (18.25 pts) but Mayfield came to the rescue with a whopping 38.75 pts to cap his magical season with his best game of the year.

The Decepticons finished 3rd for the second straight week and put some distance between them and Old+FE so Dec will probably finish the season in 4th place, unless like Wax they suffer from an unexpected last minute collapse with only one week remaining.  Dec leads Old by 6 and FE by 7 rank-points.  Unlike other weeks when Dec had success due to rookie Caleb, this time it was not the case with Williams playing poorly and he scored only 5.5 pts.  Instead it was the Eagles show for Dec.  The defense dominated by holding Dallas to only 7 pts and they also had a pick-6.  WR DeVonta Smith caught 2 TD passes, one from the second string QB Pickett and one from the third string QB McKee, making Hurts expendable, at least for his own stats.  J Taylor and Zaire Franklin did not score as high as the Eagles and D Smith but they nevertheless both scored above 20 pts to help Dec beat Bas by less than one point.

The GloriousBastards scored a respectable 168 pts but week #17 being the highest scoring week of the season, it was not good enough to finish in the top 3 and Bas is now out of contention for first place, and will need to beat Beaud by at least 2 spots in the final week if they want to finish in second place.  Because Higgins outscored J Chase 30.5 pts to 14 pts this week, that right there was the main reason why Bas came up short against Beaud by 14.25 pts so it was a difference between 1st place and 4th place.  Purdy made a good effort on MNF to at least beat Dec but he came up just short by 0.75 pt due to two INTs in the last 20 minutes of the game (and no TD), after having played well in the first 40 minutes with 3 TDs and no turnover.

OldNo7 finished 5th and beat FE by two spots to take back 5th place in the standings.  Burrow was by far once again the team leader with 36.5 pts, followed by Amon-Ra scoring 16 pts on MNF to edge Prof by 1.5 pt this week.  On defense the Bears also scored 16 pts in their loss against the Seahawks.  They were certainly not the reason why the Bears lost that game, holding the Hawks to only 2 FGs but the offense was so bad that they put the Bears defense on the back foot repeatedly.  The main reason why Old could not finish in the top half this week was McLaurin only scoring 1.25 pt.  He was the second most targeted receiver for the Commanders (7 targets) but he only converted one of them to a reception.

ProfMJ finished 6th this week and is now 100% sure of ending the season in 7th place.  Rookie Nabers prevented Prof from finishing lower thanks to a 30.5-point explosion against the sorry Colts defense.  Nabers ranks ROO4, not far behind Caleb Williams at ROO3 so it is still possible that Nabers will finish 3rd best depending on results next week.  But the key is 2025 value.  Nabers would rank WR6 out of all veteran WRs so his value next year will be very high.  In contrast Caleb will be worth garbage, possibly not even save player material.  Although one can safely bet that Dec will save him based on prayers!

FlyingElvis finished in 7th place and dropped to 6th in the standings.  FE probably deserves a better outcome because they rank 4th in total scoring for the entire season behind Wax-Beaud-Bas, but FE repeatedly got the short end of the stick on top of having destroyed the competition by unnecessary large margins in some other weeks.  While McConkey has not been Nabers, he nonetheless has not had a bad season as ROO7.  He scored 25 pts this week and as the Chargers’ main receiver, the future seems bright for him.  Josh Allen had a strong game with 25.25 pts but the Bills were up by so much that he did not need to throw the ball often and finished the game with only 182 passing yards which limited his output.  Besides J Allen and McConkey, the rest of FE’s offense was anemic with every starter being held to single digits except for M Andrews and barely so (10.25 pts) – Andrews only caught 2 passes so it’s not as if he was dominant.

The Admirals finished 8th this week which is a familiar spot and similar to Prof, they are 100% sure of finishing the season there.  Week #18 will simply be to maximize 2025 draft status in the 7th round.  Franchise player Gibbs continued to take advantage of the absence of D Montgomery with 20.5 pts and rookie X Worthy is slowly increasing his participation in the offense, this week with 8-79-1.  But the same holes had the same problems for Adm, K Murray is not a starting caliber QB (12 pts this week), R White is not a startable RB (2.75 pts this week), and Nico Collins was an enigma with only 5.75 pts despite being the only healthy WR for the Texans now that T Dell (Dec) and S Diggs (FE) are out to injury.

The Ballers finished last and confirmed they will be last on the season as well.  Ball has finished 7 times last out of 17 weeks.  This nightmare season will come to an end soon even with L-Jax continuing to light up the scoreboard this time with 30.75 pts.  He is almost assured of finishing the year as the top scorer in the PQBFL in front of Burrow (Old) and J Allen (FE).  It would be stunning if he does not return to Ball in 2025 as franchise player, but most of the rest of the lineup needs a major purge especially the RB position where both starters J Williams and Singletary combined for a laughable 2.5 pts.
