Week #15

** Weekly write-up provided by FE **

The 3-team battle for 2024 supremacy of the PQBFL is beginning to look more like a 2 team battle, with the Beaudoin Bros. slipping the last two weeks while Wax On Wax Off builds its lead over the Glorious Bastards. Two straight second place finishes by Wax have padded their lead to four points over the Bastards but more importantly by a big 7 points over BB, who were in the lead going into week 14. Two straight 7th place finishes are severely hurting the Bros chances to win the league, but there are still 3 weeks left to go so they are technically not out of it, but the chances are decreasing. One big monkey wrench being thrown at all of these teams is the sudden dominance of Flying Elvis, who has two straight big wins. While Elvis cannot get into the top 3 he can certainly play spoiler to some extent.

As mentioned this week Elvis had a second straight monster week, nearly reaching the 200 pt mark. Josh Allen had another huge week (37.5 pts, 4 TDs, 362 pass yds and 68 rush yds) and is QB2 in the league behind LJax. The other big story for Elvis this week was Davante Adams who has been mostly quiet this year but exploded in the 2nd half of the Jets game for 2 TDs and 198 yds. This accounted for 33.5 pts. Elvis enjoyed good production from all offensive starters except DeAndre Hopkins. All scored TDs. FE also got great numbers on the defensive side of the ball this week with Watt getting 17 pts and Brian Branch returning to his early season form with 18.5 pts. Rookie Ladd McConkey is turning out to be a very good rookie as well.

Wax On Wax Off got 2nd place to keep themselves in the lead and even pad by 2 points. Baker Mayfield led the way with an impressive 36.5 pts with an impressive coaching decision to start him over Matthew Stafford who only the week before had a huge game against the Bills. Justin Jefferson had a good MNF game despite a really slow start with a TD and 7 catches. The other big surprise star was the Broncos D with a huge game including 2 INTs (one a pick 6) and 3 fumbles recovered for 21.5 pts. Solid IDP play also contributed 40 pts to the 2nd place effort, and Wax has some nice options at the rookie position, this week starting Drake Maye who provided another 16 pts. Saquon had an off-week but it’s unlikely Wax would have caught FE even if he had a good one.

3rd place went to Old No. 7 who currently stands in 5th place, falling behind the surging FE for the top spot of the 2nd tier of teams this year. The star of the show was Amon Ra St Brown with 31.5 pts including a TD and a whopping 14 receptions. Jaxson Smith-Njigba was the other starting receiver providing another 15 pts. Joe Burrow had an unusually quiet week this week, only gaining 17 pts on 3 TDs but he threw two INTs. The RB combo of Kamara and Williams was decent with 23 pts between them. Freiermuth had a TD to chip in with 9 pts and Tyler Bass two FGs including a long one to pull in 10.5 pts. The IDPs were average, maybe below, getting 20 pts total, and rookie Brock Bowers didn’t have a good week this week. One thing about Old that is interesting, they are by far the leader in injury points so they’ve done a decent job with what they’ve had.

The Glorious Bastards got 4th place, keeping themselves in the hunt for the title, with solid figures pretty much across the board and no spectacular weeks except maybe the surprising Cowboys D which had two INTs and 17.5 pts. Had Bas started Mahomes at QB he would have added 14.5 pts to his total this week and gained an extra rank point. Given Purdy’s recent maladies it’s a bit surprising to the writer the GB started him over Mahomes. An additional coaching error was not starting Mike Evans who had a huge game with 31.75, costing GB an additional 20 pts. No matter, GB got decent production out of RB (30.5 pts), WR (26) and TE (13.25); Also IDPs contributed well at the LB position and rookie Bo Nix continues to be a big contributor.

5th place went to Professor MJ on the back of strong WR and Rookie performances. Cee Dee had a TD and 9 catches to haul in 20.75 and Jordan Addison contributed another 10 pts on 7 receptions. Rookie Malik Nabers had a TD and 10 receptions for 21 pts as well. The other large contributor this week were MJ's IDPs, with 39.5 pts with solid if not spectacular play across all of the positions. MJ is hurt badly this year by the Dak injuries though Justin Herbert has been ok in his absence. The problem is Herbert has been inconsistent and this week was no exception with only 14.5 on 2 TDs but also an interception and not much pass yardage. RB was also a disappointment with neither Robinson or Pollard getting double digit points.

The Ballers took 6th place this week and have stepped up their game a bit in the last two weeks after a disastrous start that saw 6 last place finishes and 4 second to lasts. This team had the enviable situation of having both Lamar Jackson and Jared Goff, both of whom had monstrous games this week. On top of that they have Aaron Rodgers who also had a big week. All totalled Ballers QBs had almost 130 points this weekend, WOW. The biggest part of all of that is not even so much that Ballers has such great QBs, but that no one else in the league has his backups! WRs Garrett Wilson and Puka Nacua contributed 12.75 and 12.25 pts as well. At RB, Ballers are missing Kenneth Walker.

The Beaudoin Bros must be besides themselves having taken 7th place and only 3 rank points at a late juncture in the season. While Jalen Hurts and Tee Higgins contributed decently, a review of BBs lineup shows that really no one else did. The Cooper Kupp start seemed to be a good one but for some reason he was only targeted 3 times and didn’t have a catch. That goose egg came as a big surprise but even if BB started another receiver he would have only gained 5.75 pts. The RB position was also really bad this week with D. Henry expected to have huge numbers but only pulling in 5.5 and Chuba Hubbard getting 4. Rhamondre Stevenson was best option with a measly 7 pts. Rookie Jayden Daniels continues his hot rookie year with 22.5. BB needs D. Henry and another RB and his WRs to wake up else he faces elimination from championship contention soon.

Decepticons had a somewhat surprising 8th place finish, two weeks removed from a weekly win. They went Miami heavy this week which seemingly was a sound strategy but turned out to be disastrous. Tua had a terrible week with 3 INTs and Waddle had a goose-egg. Were it not for the Chiefs D (23.5 pts) Decept could have ended in last. One other highlight area this week was the LB position with Zaire Franklin getting 16 pts with an INT and T.J. Edwards with 13. Rookie Caleb Williams was fair and is the rookie 3 this season. Decept is now tied for 5th with Old No. 7 and is 2 pts behind FE for the 2nd tier lead.

The poor Admirals are in a tailspin, with a 2nd straight last place finish and in 4 of the past 5 weeks last or 2nd to last. They are down to Kyler Murray at QB and he has really not been anything special this year (QB 12). The bright spots this week were Jahmyr Gibbs (20.5 pts on 2 TDs) and A.J. Brown (18.5 on a TD and 8 recpts). LaPorta contributed 12.5 with 7 recpts and rookie Xavier Worthy had a nice week with 16.75 including  a TD and 6 recpts, but after these the numbers were not good to Admirals. Particularly hurting was the Lions D with a -3 pt performance where the Texans had 17 pts on the bench. IDPs were not good with only a combined 17.5, and 2nd RB and WRs only contributed 1.25 (Chubb) and 1.75 (Williams). Hopefully Admirals can get out of the funk they are in but the QB situation will not help them.
