Week
#13
The Decepticons won week #13 to take a 6 rank-points lead over Old
in 4th place in the standings. The roller-coaster continued
for rookie Caleb with his best game of the season 30.75 pts.
He had similar success in weeks #5-6 only to crash after his bye
with mid single-digit scores in weeks #8-10, so time will tell if he
can keep it up now with the new coaching regime in Chicago or if he
will go back to low scores. He has been key to Dec’s success
or lack of, during the entire season due to the huge point
swings. Dec had a goose egg from Kyle Pitts but offsetting
that was good production from J Reed (2 TDs), J Taylor (1 TD), and J
Mixon (1 TD). D London did not score but he had 9 receptions
to score almost as much as all these other guys, even kicker Boswell
contributed with 12.5 pts by making 8/9 kicks.
The GloriousBastards failed to secure the win on MNF because Bo Nix
had a mixed game with only 1 TD and 2 INTs for 12 pts.
Nonetheless, Bas beat Beaud by 2 ranks and Wax by 4 ranks which is
not very common so the result was excellent and Bas is now only 1
rank-point behind Wax in second place and will probably have the
tie-breaker over Wax by having scored more total points so far this
season. Bas was carried by defense this week, first off the
Cowboys scored a pick-6 on the Giants on top of 6 sacks and limiting
them to less than 250 total yards for 18.5 pts. DB Derwin
James had his best game of the season for 17 pts with 1 INT and 10
tackles+assists in a critical road win in Atlanta. TE McBride
did not score a TD but he was dominant with 12 receptions.
After a moderate start, McBride has been warming up. At first
it seemed like Kittle (Ball) was running away as the best TE in the
league but recently McBride has been catching up, he’s now only 1.5
points per week behind.
FlyingElvis finished in the top 3 for the third time of the season
with 160.75 pts to play troublemakers which benefited Bas. In
the process FE jumped ahead ProfMJ in the standings to 6th place, 2
rank-points in front of Prof. Similar to Bas, FE had an
excellent week on defense. First off TJ Watt was in Burrow’s
(Old) face all game with 5 QB hits 2 sacks and 1 forced fumble for a
total of 18 points. Crosby has not been as dominant as in
previous years (DL3) and he had not scored double digits since week
#5, but he came alive this week with 1 sack and 4 QB hits for 12 pts
in a close loss to the Chiefs. Offense was all Josh Allen as
usual but he did one magic trick he had never done before.
Allen scored 3 TDs but in PQBFL scoring he was credited 4 TDs due to
having a TD pass and a TD reception on the same freaking play –
unreal.
The BeaudoinBrothers wobbled to 4th place and were kept out of the
blue for the first time since week #4. In the process, Beaud
gained 2 rank-points on Wax but lost 2 against Bas in what was a
mixed outcome. Rookie Jayden Daniels was the leader with 26
pts as he took advantage of a juicy matchup against TEN.
Similar to teams above, defense played a big role with all 5
starters scoring double-digits, ranging from 16 pts for the Bills
defense down to 10.5 pts for DB Kyle Dugger. LB Logan Wilson
missed this week to injury and it affected the porous Bengals
defense, but it certainly did not affect Beaud with backup LB Quay
Walker scoring 15 pts. On offense Beaud was held back by one
catastrophic coaching call, starting Chuba Hubbard (0.5 pt) and
benching Montgomery (10.25 pts). Beaud woud have finished tied
in first with Dec if they had started Montgomery. Hubbard was
so bad he even fumbled in overtime which led to the Panthers’ loss.
OldNo7 almost beat Beaud on MNF but lost by the slimmest of margins
0.25 pt when TE Njoku had a great game with 9 receptions 2 TDs but
the Browns defense did not do their part in that same game by
allowing 400 total yards and losing in Denver. Old’s best
score was rookie Bowers who almost beat the Chiefs by himself with a
stat line of 10-140-1. He’s been having a fantastic rookie
year as ROO4, outscoring every rookie WR even the heavily hyped ones
like Harrison (Prof), Nabers (Prof), McConkey (FE) and B Thomas
(Wax). In fact Bowers has also been outscoring all regular TEs
even in front of Kittle and McBride. Because he’s still just a
rookie, there is a chance he might become the second TE ever besides
T Kelce to be franchised.
After 12 straight weeks in the top 5, WaxOnWaxOff finished below
average (6th) for the first time of the season. Unlike some of
the leading teams this week, defense was more of a mixed bag for Wax
and not as dominant as other weeks. The Broncos saved the day
on MNF to beat Prof thanks to 2 pick-sixes, but DL was a problem
with N Bosa on bye and backup Anderson only scoring 1 point.
If we ignore injured Brisker, the best DB in the league has been B
Baker but this week he was so-so with 7 pts, his lowest score of the
season after having scored double-digits 4 straight weeks prior to
this week. Ju Jefferson and Hockenson were both held out of
the end zone so they both underperformed relative to their weekly
projection but the bigger issue was QB Mayfield only scoring 5.75
pts (1 TD 2 INTs) which was his worst game of the season despite
playing the Panthers which is probably the reason Wax left Stafford
on the bench who scored 16.25 pts.
ProfMJ almost beat Wax but fell short by 0.5 pt and finished in 7th
place for the 3rd straight week and dropped to 7th in the standings
as well. James Cook made a decent effort on SNF to avoid this
result thanks to 18 pts but in the end it was not enough. The
best score of the week was Keenan Allen in a blast from the past
with 20.5 pts. Also the Jets defense almost beat SEA and had a
TD on a kickoff return for 16.5 pts in what has otherwise been a
forgettable year (DEF8) when expectations were high. What used
to be Prof’s engine the connection Prescott-Lamb which went out in
smokes when Prescott got injured, was in full display this
week. QB Herbert did not score a TD and ended the game with
7.75 pts. Dallas’ backup QB Rush completed 21 passes but only
2 went to Lamb so he scored a paltry 3.75 pts.
The Admirals finished in 8th place and are now 9 rank-points behind
Prof in 7th so it’s near the psychological barrier of 10 rank-points
which is very hard to overcome so late in the season which
means 8th is most likely where Adm will finish the year. Adm
made the unusual move of benching K Murray in favor of D Carr
because of Murray’s matchup in MIN. That turned out to be
correct as Carr outscored Murray 16 to 12.5 pts. This ended up
being the difference between finishing 8th and 9th but that was one
of the rare positives of the week. Gibbs lost a fumble
and was limited to only 5.5 pts. AJ Brown and Nico Collins did
not score a TD and failed to reach their weekly projection.
Chubb scored 1 TD and LaPorta even had two TDs, but both had such
weak stats (Chubb 21 rushing yards and LaPorta 3 receptions for 6
yds including his TDs) that they could not carry the team on their
shoulders.
The Ballers finished last for the 4th time in 6 weeks. This
week was quite similar to previous weeks: L Jackson did well with
24.75 pts and almost everyone else was poor. Even Kittle is
coming apart like the rest of the 49ers offense with only 2.25 pts
this week. You would think rookie Odunze would have benefited
from the strong week of Caleb (Dec) but he did not, only catching 2
passes for 25 yds. Even star RB K Walker was terrible with
only 2.25 pts, only a fraction of his previous season-low of 7.25
pts back in week #5. The other starting RB J Williams scored a
TD early in the game but finished with a stunning 4 rushes for 1
yard in a game that the Broncos played ahead all game long.
This time it was McLaughlin (Wax) having the bulk of the carries
with 14-84 while it had previously been Estime taking touches away
from Williams. In either case, Williams is unreliable.
