After scraping points here and there and flirting with last place in
each of the last 4 weeks, suddenly the light switch turned on and the
Bros registered the second highest score of the PQBFL with 195.25
pts. Where these guys were all year is unknown but other than
Fournette coming back from injury and scoring 2 TDs, the rest were in
the same situation as before. Luck finally started instead of
Stafford which was overdue, and scored 25.5 pts. D Johnson
finally benefited from the O-coordinator being fired and scored 2 TDs
and almost 200 yards from scrimmage. Even freakin Keenan Allen
found the end zone for the first time since week #1. At the
rookie position, despite C Ridley being traded away and J Allen still
injured, backup K Johnson scored 2 TDs. On SNF, Ertz exploded for
32.25 pts in a completely useless effort given that the win was already
wrapped up. Ertz is now outscoring all but 6 WRs in the
PQBFL.
The GloriousBastards finished 2nd for the 4th time in 6 weeks to
continue their long march towards the top of the standings, but remain
still quite a distance from Adm, Wax, and Dec. Bas were not close
to finishing first, but were able to put valuable points on the board
thanks to E Elliott on SNF with 24.5 pts and even better from rookie
Mayfield who scored a season-high 27.5 pts and moved up to 3rd best
rookie in the PQBFL after this performance. Bas’s receivers all
did well with 18.75 pts from D Adams, 16 pt from JJSS, and 13 pts from
Kittle. We don’t hear much from Kittle at the TE position because
of the success of Ertz (Beaud) and Kelce (Old), but Kittle is quietly
the 4th best TE in the PQBFL. On defense, newly acquired Reshad
Jones is an enigma and only scored 4.5 pts but it was nonetheless an
upgrade over M Peters on the bench (2 pts) or T White (2 pts) who was
traded away.
The Ballers were trailing the pack all the way until MNF but 2 TDs from
ODB and 2 more from Breida pulled the Ballers 1.5 pt in front of Wax,
2.5 pts in front of Adm, and 5 pts in front of Dec for a very close
finish between 3rd to 6th place. Third place was the team’s
highest finish since the opening week’s win. R Wilson also did
well during Watson’s bye with 27.25 pts despite a tough matchup against
the Rams on the road. D Henry has not done much this year but
this week he scored 2 short TDs. Ju Jones also added a TD,
scoring for the second straight week after not finding the end zone in
forever. Even LB Vince Williams also found the end zone in this
flurry of TDs for Ballers who finished the week with 11 scores.
Other than V Williams, defense was not exactly stellar with 3 pts each
from M Jack and C Dunlap, and Ju Simmons started but he was on bye.
WaxOnWaxOff finished 4th which is not that great but the good news is
that they beat both Adm and Dec which is what matters at this
stage. Wax now has a bit more breathing room in 2nd place,
leading Dec by 2 rank-points, and is 4 rank-points behind Adm in the
standings with 7 weeks left. Starting Roeth instead of A Rodgers
would have made a big difference because Roeth crushed the Panthers on
TNF with 46 pts while Rodgers scored a more modest 20.25 pts.
Both of Wax’s RBs were bottled up with Jo Howard scoring 2.5 pts and
Mixon doing a bit better with 8 pts but no score. A Brown scored
18.75 pts in the offensive show put up by the Steelers when Roeth was
benched, but no way Brown was going to be benched however. The TE
position continues to be a mystery for Wax with Jo Reed being the
household name but he was benched again, J Doyle was back to health but
benched too, in favor of A Hooper who rewarded the coach with 17.75
pts. Another great coaching call was starting the Bills defense
instead of the Rams which worked great, the Bills outscoring the Rams
easily 13.5 pts to 1.5 pt.
The Admirals scored a decent 152 pts but that was only good enough for
5th place which was the team’s lowest finish of all year, same as week
#3. Adm lost a close finish to Wax but fortunately won a close
finish against Dec. The acquisition of kicker J Elliott was the
key because Tucker was on bye and Sturgis was recently released.
Elliott scored 7.5 pts which was the difference maker to beat
Dec. The other new trade acquisition C Ridley did not do as well
with only 6 pts but it was nonetheless better than Adm’s backups, but
more is expected of Ridley and Adm should have been able to beat Wax
with a better game from Ridley. Gurley and M Thomas had great
games as usual with 19.25 pts and 22.5 pts, but the party came to a
halt for James White who rushed for negative yardage and finished with
only 2 pts, his worst game of the year by far, 7 pts in week #3 being
the lowest output he had this year prior to week #10. At TE, the
coach thought that with J Doyle healthy, Ebron would take a back seat
in the offense so G Olsen started but he only scored 6 pts. Ebron
made clear that Doyle’s earlier absence was not the reason for his
success and he scored 3 TDs including a rushing TD, yeah a TE rushing
for a TD! He finished with 25.5 pts. This guy cannot be
benched.
The Decepticons finished with the short end of the stick vs Ball, Adm,
and Wax, only 5 pts from third place. Dec did not have a TE to
start this week with Rudolph on bye and Eifert injured, and this cost
the team dearly because most TEs would be able to score over 5
pts. However there were other injuries issues that were very
costly, for example AJ Green was out and Diggs on bye so backups D
Parker and R Woods started but only combined for 16.25 pts, a score
that Green and Diggs can sometimes top on their own. JJ Watt was
also on bye which did not help Dec and backup JPP could not do miracles
like he did earlier this year when he started, this time only scoring a
single point. At the rookie position, Chubb was recently the
starter of choice for Dec and strangely he was benched his week despite
having a good matchup against the disastrous Falcons’ defense.
Chubb scored 32.25 pts on the bench and starter Rosen failed to reach
his weekly projection with only 8.75 pts. This single call was
the difference between 2nd place and 6th place, a massive 4 rank-point
swing.
OldNo7 finished far behind the top 6 with only 125.5 pts but safely
ahead of the sorry FlyingElvis squad. Old’s season is quickly
unraveling since week 6’s win, being the worst team in the last 4 weeks
other than FE. Starters Thielen and De Thomas were on bye and
backups A Cooper and Baldwin did not get the job done, but scoring
single digits. Kelce had an off week with only 7.25 pts.
Also M Ryan was less productive than usual against the Browns with 19
pts which was below his bloated projection based on previous
success. T Coleman was benched last week and had a big game, this
week he started but only scored 5.25 pts in that same game against the
Browns, while McCoy scored 21.75 pts from the bench. Rookie S
Michel just got back from injury and the coach did not trust that he
would be 100% which was correct, Michel only scoring 2.5 pts. The
problem is that backup DJ Moore is simply not starter material, he
scored 5.25 pts right in line with his season average but it’s not
going to cut it.
FlyingElvis finished last for the 4th straight week, which is quite an
accomplishment given that the last time a team finished last for more
than 2 straight weeks was in 2014 with the defunct Cowbells finishing
last in weeks #15-17 after which the franchise disintegrated
completely. Hopefully the same fate will not happen to FE but
finishing last for 4 straight weeks is something that was last done by
the Spitoons in 2013 (weeks #2-5) – that year Spi were the shittiest
team in PQBFL history with 11 wins 108 losses, finishing the season
with only 28 rank points which is only 11 above the minimum of
17. Spi scored 27% fewer total points than league average that
year and far behind Adm who were next to last (121.9 pts per week for
Adm and 98.3 pts per week for Spi). FE also finished last 4
straight weeks themselves back in 2009. A gloomy trip down memory
lane to say the least. FE scored 108.25 pts this week which was
not so horrible but the problem is that week #10 was the second highest
scoring week of the year so far. Prescott did ok during Cousins’
bye with 19.75 pts. Ty Hill remains one of the few bright spots
on FE’s team with 26.75 pts. Barkley will probably be FE’s
franchise player next year but he was limited to 8.25 pts this
week. FE’s problems continued to be at RB with Drake only scoring
3 pts, Kupp got injured and is now out for the year after scoring 6.75
pts, and the Pats defense scored -0.5 pt which was actually better than
the Jags on the bench with -1.5 pt.
