Week #8

WaxOnWaxOff became the first team this year to win back-to-back weeks and this has powered them to first place overall in the standings.  This week Wax dominated all other teams by more than 23 points, en route to an easy win.  On offense everybody scored a TD for Wax except for Jo Reed who nonetheless caught 7 passes which allowed him to beat his weekly projection.  A Brown scored twice, M Evans scored a long TD, Jo Howard scored a short TD and Mixon added two more.  At QB, the coach had the guts to bench A Rodgers in favor of Roeth and it paid off, with Roeth outscoring Rodgers slightly, 19 to 17.75 pts.  On defense A Donald had a multi-sack game for the second straight week with 2 more this week in addition to 4 QB hits.  TJ Watt also had a sack and H Smith picked off a pass from Brees.  Rookie LB Leonard continued to wreak havoc with 4 tackles, 5 assists, one forced fumble and QB hit and still leads all rookies and all non-rookie individual defenders.

The Decepticons returned to the top half after a 3-week down period and moved one inch closer to Adm in 2nd place.  This week Kamara was used more despite the presence of Ingram and it paid dividends with Kamara scoring twice.  McCaffrey also did better than in recent weeks.  After a couple of 6.5 pt games, McCaffrey had his best game since week #3 with two scores and 15.5 pts.  Mahomes added 4 more TDs with over 30 pts this week, the third straight week where he scored above 30 pts and the 5th time he does so in 8 weeks.  At WR, the Dec coach finally benched Diggs and instead started Woods but it was the wrong week to make the move.  Diggs outscored Thielen (Old) for a rare week and scored 20.75 pts on the bench while R Woods did not do much with only 8.5 pts.  On defense the Saints were expected to have a rough outing in Minny but they pulled off the upset thanks to a defensive TD and they only allowed 20 pts.

The Admirals finished in their favorite spot – 3rd place – once again.  Adm finished in a very tight spot between Dec and Bas this week : only half a point ahead of Bas but 1 pt behind Dec.  Offense was all fine as usual for Adm – Newton 27.5 pts, Gurley 25.25 pts, Hopkins 23 pts.  The Adm coach benched Ingram and started J White which turned out well because White scored a TD and got 79 receiving yards for a total of 12.75 pts, compared to only 7.5 pts for Ingram.  Ebron had another double-digit game with 11.75 pts and now ranks as TE3 in the PQBFL, not far behind Ertz (Beaud) and Kelce (Old).  However the problem this week for Adm was defense.  The Vikings only scored 4 pts against the Saints and lost the game, only getting one turnover and no sack.  C Jones and D Hunter only combined for 3 pts, while LB V Miller had an off-game with 5.5 pts.  B Baker was the best on defense with 7.5 pts which is nothing to write home about.

The GloriousBastards came very close to finishing 2nd for the fourth straight week but unfortunately came up short against Adm and Dec.  The key call to make was at TE : G Kittle was benched with 7.75 pts and starter T Burton was limited to 3.75 pts which was the difference between 2nd place and 4th place.  If it was not for this mistake, Bas would be much closer to 3rd place in the standings but Dec gained some ground on Bas instead.  At least Bas was in the thick of the race thanks to the genius call of starting QB Goff (30.25 pts) instead of Brady (10.25 pts).  Goff has outscored Brady so far this year and name recognition did not fool the coach into starting Brady in Buffalo.  RBs Hunt and Cohen contributed for 31 pts combined and even backups A Jones and P Barber did well with 26 pts combined on the bench so Bas was going to get a boost at RB no matter what.  The WR position was a bit more problematic however with D Adams scoring 11.5 pts which was much lower than his weekly projection, and JJS-Schuster doing even worse with 6.5 pts.

The Ballers scored a mediocre 128.5 pts this week but it was good enough for 5th place, which allowed Ball to move up to 6th place in the standings.  D Watson is the only one who showed up on offense for Ball, scoring a season-high 40.75 pts.  The rest of the offense was shitty, including 1.75 pts for C Thompson, 3.5 pts for Breida, 1.5 pt for Golladay, and zero for Njoku.  ODB did not score but at least his stats were decent, ending the game with 15.75 pts.  Defense was somewhat acceptable with Dunlap sacking Winston twice, Ju Simmons picking off Mahomes once, and Myles Jack sacking Wentz once.  At mid season the Ballers still trail FE in strength of starters and is about tied with FE in coaching efficiency, however Ball has benefited so far of the fewest injuries in the PQBFL which has helped keep the team competitive in several weeks.

OldNo7 scored a disappointing 117 pts this week and only finished 6th this week.  At mid season OldNo7 must come to grips with reality that 2018 will not be the year where this long-suffering franchise will win it all, falling 15 rank-points behind first place which is almost unsurmountable.  Trubisky did well with 24.5 pts while M Ryan was on bye, but CJ Anderson did not fare as well with M Gordon on bye with only 1.5 pt.  WR Thielen had a good game with 14.75 pts but based on his own standards it was not as good as what we got accustomed to, unfortunately.  Co-WR De Thomas also disappointed with only 5.5 pts, but at least his outlook got better now that he’s been traded away from Denver.  Rookie S Michel is now injured but backup DJ Moore came alive with 13.25 pts.  Moore was slow out of the gate this year but perhaps there is hope with him after all.  Defense was more problematic with nobody scoring double digits this week, J Poyer and D Lee being the worst with 4 pts each.

The BeaudoinBrothers must strike the 2018 season as a lost year, finishing in the red for the 3rd time in 8 weeks and only avoiding last place because FE’s coach has already thrown the towel.  Finishing in the top half of the standings for the season will be a challenge for Beaud, because right now it looks like nothing is working for Beaud, be it injuries or coaching decisions.  WR Jeffery was benched again and despite scoring only 5.75 pts, it was a bad coaching call because TY Hilton started and only scored 2.5 pts.  Such a paltry contest 5.75 pts vs 2.5 pts at the WR position is what the Bros season has come to.  On defense Mack was injured the exact same week that Ingram was on bye, which was another untimely injury for Beaud.  The Ravens started in Carolina but scored -2 pts while the Panthers scored a more respectable 7.5 pts, a coaching call which cost the team one rank-point.  At LB, with PQBFL-leader Schobert injured, backup R Foster stunk with only 2 pts.  All odds are on this guy being out of the PQBFL in 2019.

FlyingElvis’ season started like shit before it even began with L Bell  not showing up, and now FE finished last for the second straight week and now FE is left alone in the cellar.  Time for FE to rebuild, but will the GM take action?  Among the few valuable goods FE has, Ty Hill only scored 6.5 pts this week and Gronk was limited to 5 pts.  The Jags defense was toothless at home against Philly with only 4 pts, and the coach started both D Lawrence and S Lee on bye rather than starting backups.  Did FE receive the wrong schedule informing him that Dallas was playing or what?  This ended up being a gift to Beaud to avoid last place, plain and simple.  Even star rookie Barkley could not keep FE out of last place this week despite over 100 yards from scrimmage.
