Week #7

WaxOnWaxOff powered their way to first place this week with a season-high 181.25 pts.  Wax has now turned a 6-rank point deficit against Dec only three weeks ago into a 3-rank point lead, and is now only 1 rank point behind Adm at the top of the standings.  Wax was just hoping to escape this week without major damage given that A Rodgers, Roeth, and A Brown were all on bye.  Getting out of the dreaded week #7 on top was way beyond expectations.  With so many offensive guns on bye, Wax only scored 2 short TDs which is normally worth last place or not much better.  However Wax made up for it with one of the most dominating defensive performances in recent memory.  The Rams, rookie D Leonard, A Donald, CJ Mosley, L Kuechly, and H Smith combined for a stunning 115.5 pts and Wax’s offense just added a few mediocre performances here and there.  A Donald scored 30 pts all by himself after only scoring 36 pts in the first 6 weeks combined, for an average of 6.0 per week.  This week he sacked statue CJ Beathard 4 times.  That was worth double points for Wax because Wax also started the Rams D who added 3 more sacks on top of Donald’s sacks, and held the 49ers to 10 pts and 228 yards with 4 turnovers.  Both LBs plus the rookie LB were tackle machines and scored 16 pts, 18 pts, and 18 pts.

The GloriousBastards finished second for the third straight week and continued their ascent in the standings, now sitting in 4th place overall tied with OldNo7.  In each of the last 4 weeks, Bas scored at least 153.25 pts, which no other team accomplished other than Adm.  This week Bas had a few hiccups and were not as dominant because college QB Milton was injured, Marcus Peters scored a goose egg, E Elliott was limited to only 3.5 pts, and WR M Goodwin started with D Adams and JJ Smith-Schuster on bye but he came up little with 3 pts.  With so many misses it’s hard to finish second, but several players picked up the slack in a big way.  K Hunt exploded for 3 TDs and 27.75 pts and TE T Burton had his best week of the year by far with 21.25 pts.  He has quietly moved up to 5th best TE in the PQBFL.  To round things up, Brady and Mayfield both scored 21.5 pts which was slightly above their weekly projection and enough to edge Adm by only 0.75 pt this week.

The Admirals continued to score with regularity and finished 3rd to keep a grasp of first place in the standings.  Similar to Bas, Adm had a few black marks with college QB Tate missing the game to injury, Adm still not having much to offer at the rookie position, Ingram having a dud with 3.5 pts, and Ebron slowing down with TY Hilton’s return and being limited to 4.5 pts.  In addition kicker Tucker missed an extra point for the first time in ages to prevent the Ravens to bring their game to OT and Tucker ended up with 1.5 pt.  The team leader this week was surprisingly WR E Sanders who got the start over star M Thomas who was benched, and it turned out to be a fantastic coaching call because Sanders scored 26.75 pts.  TD machine Gurley kept on going and feasted on the 49ers defense with 3 more scores.  On defense Von Miller was quite active with 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and 4 QB hits for a total of 21 pts.

OldNo7 could not follow up last week’s win with another strong week, but nonetheless finished in the top 4 and kept 4th place in the standings.  The week started great for Old with a monster 31 pts from the Broncos defense on TNF thanks to 2 TDs and a domination of the Cards.  However OldNo7 was significantly affected by the dreaded intra-game injuries with L McCoy and rookie S Michel both getting hurt early in their games to finish with less than one point combined.  The coach also started college RB Montgomery on bye which did not help matters although backup S Carr sucked with 0.5 pt so it was of no consequence.  OldNo7 avoided the cellar this week because of strong defense, not only the Broncos but also Kirksey who had not scored more than 9 pts all year, finally got out of his shell with 16 pts.  Also DL Garrett had a strong 14 pts in that same game.  On offense M Ryan only scored one TD but finished with a respectable 20.5 pts.  The offensive leader was Thielen once again with 21.5 pts.  One has to wonder when an opposing defense is going to find a way to contain him.  It looks like A Brown’s reign as the top WR is over.

The Decepticons got over their 2-week rough patch but it was only a limited improvement with 5th place.  Mahomes delivered again with 34.5 pts but the rest of the ‘Cons team is not clicking like it was earlier this season.  Kamara’s 11.25 pts was in line with his projection but his scoring is way down since Ingram’s return.  McCaffrey has also slowed down considerably, this week he scored only 6.5 pts for the second straight week.  At WR, the Dec coach got tired of S Diggs getting crumbs relative to teammate Thielen (Old) and started R Woods instead, but Woods failed to reach double digits.  At TE, Rudolph has not done much since Eifert’s injury and this week was the worst week of all with only one catch.  Even at the rookie position, Darnold started strong and then Rosen improved Dec’s outlook by providing the Dec coach with two starting rookie QBs, but both are now struggling to the point that they got benched in favor of Chubb who scored 11.5 pts.

The BeaudoinBrothers mediocrity continued this week, finishing in the bottom 3 for the 5th time in 7 weeks.  The coach is not helping matters, as noted last week A Jeffery has been doing quite well on the bench since returning from injury (WR7 in the PQBFL) but he has not started once yet.  Same thing this week: Jeffery was benched and scored 17.25 pts and K Allen started but only scored 8.5 pts.  He has been a massive disappointment this year, ranking WR24 which is terrible for a guy who was picked #10 overall (first pick of the 2nd round).  TY Hilton also returned from injury this week and scored two TDs on the bench.  Hopefully we have seen the last of K Allen.  The coached also goofed on the QB, starting J Winston (15.5 pts) and benching A Luck (25.25 pts).  After 7 weeks, the Bros’ coach is dead last in coaching efficiency in the PQBFL.  At RB, Lynch, Ajayi, and Fournette are all injured but Dion Lewis did quite well as a replacement with 12.75 pts without scoring a TD.  We cannot say the same for franchise player D Johnson who was held to only 5.75 pts.  Hopefully the change in offensive coordinator in Arizona will help.  Defense was also poor this week for Beaud.  The Ravens had a tough matchup against the Saints and only scored 2.5 pts.  K Mack was asked to play coverage rather than rush the QB and only scored 1 pt.  At LB the injury to the league’s top scoring LB Schobert is having an impact, with backup R Foster starting and only scoring 2 pts.

The Ballers had a difficult week with only 122.75 pts and 7th place.  M Breida had been serviceable to this point but against the Rams he got shut out like the rest of his teammates, ending the game with only 5 rushes for 15 yds, no reception, and he fumbled away one of his 5 carries.  At QB Watson continues to struggle and only scored 11.5 pts, although to his defense he was playing in Jax and he carried his team to victory.  Given Watson’s matchup, timing could not have been worse for R Wilson to be on bye.  At WR things got a bit better with ODB scoring a TD along with 143 receiving yards, but Ju Jones could not score once again and finished the game with 11 pts.  Defense was so-so for the Ballers this week particularly the Eagles who let the game slip away in the last 2 minutes.  They only got 2 sacks and no turnover against the Panthers.  After some early season success reality has set in for the Ballers; they are sitting in last place in strength of starters so the outlook for the rest of the season is dim.

FlyingElvis finished last for the second time of the year and have now ended in the bottom half 6 weeks out of 7, with the 2nd place in week #4 being the only exception.  This has dropped FE alone in last place, one rank-point behind the Ballers.  This season has been destroyed by L Bell who does not seem ready to come back despite the Steelers’ bye week being over, and the Steelers seemingly not needing him much anyway with the success of backup Conner.  D Freeman is now out for an extended period which means FE has to start Duke Johnson who is not getting the ball much, this week he scored only 1.5 pt.  To make matters worse, Gronk was a surprise scratch due to injury, and with D Walker out to injury as well the starter was C Brate who only caught 3 passes and the loser found a way to fumble one of them.  The coach made the mistake of starting kicker M Bryant who was injured, but this turned out to be a genius move because Gano scored negative 2 pts from the bench.  Perhaps the coach had a crystal ball.  On offense, Cousins, Ty Hill, and Barkley had decent games but none of them could beat their weekly projection so it did not help to lift FE out of last place.
