The Admirals won for the first time of the year and made a big leap
in the standings to 2nd, only one rank-point behind Dec. Gurley
and Ebron were the leaders with 25.25 pts each. This has come to
be expected from Gurley who now leads all offensive players other than
QBs, however for Ebron he has fully capitalized on injuries to TY
Hilton (Beaud) and J Doyle (Wax) to be a prime target in their
absence. He makes Greg Olsen’s injury a moot point so far and is
only 0.2 pt per game away from being the top scoring TE in the
PQBFL. J White also contributed this week with 12.25 pts
without having a single rushing yard, which is the new norm in this day
and age for RBs as they don’t need to carry the rock to be successful
other than Gurley. Even better news at the RB position for Adm:
with Ingram back from suspension Adm has potentially a new starter
going forward. He was benched this week but his 16 pts this week
are promising.
The GloriousBastards did not score as many points as last week but
finished much higher in the standings, with a season-best 2nd
place. Mayfield has been a major contributor to Bas’s improvement
in the last two weeks and this week he scored 16 pts while backup
rookies combined for a single point on the bench. Brady got
Edelman back and scored 27.25 pts despite 2 INTs. The Bas coach
benched K Hunt at the last minute in favor of A Jones for unknown
reasons and this cost the team first place because Hunt outscored Jones
12.75 pts to 4.75 pts. E Elliott had an off game with only 8 pts
on SNF and dropped to RB5 in the PQBFL. On defense the Chargers
had a strong outing by keeping the Raiders in check for most of the
game and scored 11.5 pts. This was the first time of the year
they scored double digits in what had previously been a shitty season
start and they are still only the 14th out of 16 defenses in the
PQBFL.
The BeaudoinBrothers had some ups and downs this week but finished a
respectable 3rd. TE Ertz came up big with 10 receptions, a TD,
and the century mark for a total of 20.5 pts and took the lead as the
top TE right in front of Kelce (Old). After a slow start, D
Johnson has recovered a bit and scored double digits for the 3rd
straight week, this time with 2 short TDs and low yardage but he helped
the Cards to their first win of the year. He is now 12th best RB
in the PQBFL and things are looking up. He is dearly needed
because Fournette is still out and for the first time M Lynch did not
do the job during his absence, being limited to only 3.25 pts. QB
continues to be a problem for Beaud who started the wrong QB again,
this time Stafford scored 16 pts which was not horrible but below his
weekly projection, while Luck outscored him with 23 pts despite missing
some offensive weapons. At WR, TY Hilton was out and Landry did
not reach double digits in his replacement even though the Browns won
the game which was a disappointment.
WaxOnWaxOff bounced back to some extent from their dismal week #4 with
4th place this week. This was a decent finish considering that
Wax had one college player and bye and the other injured, and a similar
situation at the rookie position where star LB D Leonard missed the
game to injury, A Miller was on bye, and R Penny is worthless while C
Carson and M Davis do all the work at RB for the Seahawks. In
that same game, the Rams defense could not stop the running game of the
Seahawks and finished in negative territory in a shootout win.
The Rams dropped to 3rd best defense in the PQBFL. Almost 70% of
Wax’s scoring this week came from only 4 players because the other 10
stunk: Roeth scored 25.5 pts by connecting twice on TDs with A Brown
(24 pts), Mixon came back from injury with a bang thanks to a TD and
almost 100 yards rushing, and Crowell had a monster game with over 200
yards rushing and a long TD for a total of 27.25 pts. This game
pushed Crowell to RB7 in the PQBFL which is far higher than expected
predraft.
The Ballers finished in the bottom half of the standings but keep
holding on and simply won’t go away as an expansion team. Similar
to Wax, a 5th place was a decent outcome given that both college
players were on bye. ODB finally got out of his box with 2 TDs
and 28.25 pts this week, but the same cannot be said of Ju Jones who is
still scoreless and finished the week with 8 pts. At RB, M Breida
continues to do decent work and scored double digits this week.
At RB13 this year he has far exceeded his value as a bargain-bin 20th
round pick. C Thompson was less productive than Breida with only
5 pts this week despite leading the Skins in both rushing and with a
team-high 6 receptions, because the Skins could not get going against
the weak Saints D. The Ballers could have easily beat Wax if not
for the disastrous -4 pts scored by M Crosby who missed 4 FGs and one
extra point.
FlyingElvis finished with only 126 pts and a disappointing 6th place
this week. Rookie Barkley had a big game with 24.75 pts and now
has the most total points scored of all rookies given that D Leonard
(Wax) missed a game. This week Barkley did some damage in an
unexpected way by catching a TD pass from ODB. However the
veteran RBs for FE were horrible this week, despite D Freeman’s return
from injury. Freeman started and was limited to 3.25 pts and the
bad news is that he’s not only sharing carries with T Coleman (Old) but
also with some dude called I Smith who stole a short TD away from
Freeman. Duke Johnson is not really a serviceable starting RB in
the PQBFL and only scored 4.5 pts – FE really needs L Bell to come back
ASAP which might be sooner rather than later. One good news was
that K Drake who had not done anything all year was benched but scored
16.5 pts this week so perhaps he can provide some value before L Bell
comes back.
The Decepticons were in the driving seat before this week but
squandered almost their entire lead in the standings which is now down
to a single rank-point in front of Adm and 3 in front of Wax. For
the first time, not all is well in Decepticons’ land. First off,
Mizzou QB Drew Lock was held to 0.25 pt as he did not score a single TD
and threw two picks which was as bad a day as we normally see from
college QBs. But most importantly, QB Mahomes is human after all
– he only scored 10.25 pts against the tough Jaguars defense.
Perhaps the Dec coach fell in love too much with Mahomes and it would
have been a good time to start another QB given Dec’s depth at the
position: Rivers (25.25 pts) and Brees (32 pts) outscored Mahomes by a
wide margin from the bench and this cost Dec several ranks this
week. The other bad news was that we cannot expect the same level
of production from Kamara going forward now that Ingram (Adm) is
back. Kamara only carried the ball 6 times compared to 16 times
for Ingram and Kamara only caught 3 short passes. Without monster
games from Mahomes and Kamara, Dec will not run away with the PQBFL
title early.
OldNo7 crashed to last place with only 118.5 pts this week and to make
matters worse, Old was only a point away from beating league-leading
Dec. Old was another team with problems at the college position
this week, Montgomery being out to injury and Carr on bye.
Defense was shitty everywhere for Old with all 4 defenders failing to
reach double digits and the Broncos scoring negative points in a lame
effort against the Jets. Old’s coach also returned D Baldwin to
the starting lineup prematurely. Baldwin was back from injury but
he only caught one pass for one yard on one target. Old was in a
hurry to bench underperforming WR De Thomas but it turned out to be the
wrong week to do so given that Thomas scored 18.25 pts. At QB, M
Ryan was having a great year but this week was less stellar with only
one TD and one fumble lost.
