The Decepticons were missing McCaffrey on bye week but no problem – the
‘Cons crushed their closest rival WaxOnWaxOff who finished last, so Dec
opened up a huge 6 rank-point lead in the standings and are now clearly
the favorites to win the league. Dec will need to keep Kamara
producing at a high level however because now Ingram is coming back
from suspension. Also it remains to be seen whether the numerous
injuries will start to catch up with Dec particularly with bye weeks
coming. So far, injuries have been spread quite well between
positions and Dec has enough depth to keep clicking on all
cylinders. For example, DB K Neal is out for the year but J Adams
scored 12 pts this week and is currently the best DB in the PQBFL, so K
Neal is not missed at all. LB D Jones is out for several weeks
but Dec has been starting JPP and JJ Watt as defensive flex, and they
are DL2 and DL4 in the league so far, and this week they both scored
double digits. Eifert was having a good season start but now he’s
out for the year; Rudolph is currently TE5 so probably not a big issue
for Dec there either. L Miller did not do well in replacement for
McCaffrey with only 4 pts this week but Kamara picked up the slack with
33 pts leaving Brees TD-less, but he was benched anyway and Mahomes
sealed the win on MNF with 20.5 pts.
FlyingElvis came out on top of a very tight pack from 2nd to 7th place
this week with 169.75 pts. The trade for Ty Hill paid dividends
even though Hill did not light up the scoreboard. He scored 11.75
pts which was better than the next best benched WR M Jones 5.75
pts. Gronk was hampered by an injury and finished the game with
only 6 pts but it’s unlikely he would have been able to carry FE to 1st
place over Dec anyway. On offense K Cousins (35.25 pts) and C
Kupp (31 pts) were huge on TNF and for a while it looked like FE would
win this week until things slowed down on Sunday especially with
disappointing performances from T Montgomery 5 pts and K Drake who only
rushed for 3 yards on 3 carries while Gore carried the rock 11
times. On defense D Lawrence was a monster with 3 sacks and 20
pts against the Lions. Lawrence has climbed to DL4 in the league,
behind juggernauts K Mack and JJ Watt. FE will need more
production from LBs however, especially this week T Smith and A
Hitchens both scored 3 pts which is not going to cut it at the LB
position.
OldNo7 produced their best performance of the year so far with 167.25
pts and 3rd place, sandwiched between FE and Adm. Old continues
to benefit from excellent performance by M Ryan with 33 pts this
week. After 4 weeks he is the 2nd highest scoring player in the
entire PQBFL behind Mahomes (Dec). Even benched backup Trubisky
had a monster game with 51 pts but nobody can second guess this
coaching call. The QB who was supposed to be the starter on this
team is Wentz as an expensive 3rd round pick, but perhaps Wentz will
spend the year on Old’s bench. WR Thielen had another good week
with 22.75 pts which surprisingly makes him the top WR in the league at
the quarter mark. At the beginning of the season it looked like
the rookie position would be a major problem for Old with Gesicki and
DJ Moore going nowhere, but now Sony Michel is healthy and he scored
15.25 pts which gives hope to Old that they will get a decent return on
investment in the 6th round. Old could have easily beat FE on MNF
but the Chiefs defense was subpar with only 3.5 pts and almost losing
against the Broncos, and De Thomas did not do much against same defense
with 4-24.
The Admirals finished in the middle for the 3rd week out of 4 and moved
to within a point of Wax in 2nd place in the standings. Adm was
stacked at WR so the GM traded Ty Hill away, trying to shore up the
rookie and college positions which had been dreadful so far this
year. The success was mitigated this week. Rookie Freeman
scored a TD and finished with 11.5 pts which is more than what Adm
could muster in the first three weeks, but Freeman only got 8 carries,
behind the 12 for P Lindsay which is not too promising for the rest of
the season. Backup Hines was benched but for once he did
something, ending the game with 17 pts. College QB K Tate was
supposed to be the top scoring college QB this year and FE drafted him
relatively early in the 8th round, but he was a disappointment before
the trade and this week was no different with Tate scoring 4.75 pts
which was less than Adm’s backup J Pass. With Newton on bye, D
Carr started probably for one of the very few times he’ll be needed
this year and fortunately his matchup was favorable, at home against
the Browns. It paid off with 31.5 pts. WR M Thomas had his
first off game of the year as the Saints ran the ball all game and he
finished with only 6.25 pts. However D Hopkins made up for it
with 10-169 and a TD.
The Ballers kept their head above water with 5th place but could have
been better, finishing only 8.25 pts away from 2nd place. QB
Watson has been slowly warming up and finally led the Texans to a
victory and scored 27.75 pts in the process. RB Gio Bernard is
taking maximum advantage of the injury to Mixon, and this week the
coach did not make the mistake a benching him and he scored 19 pts
thanks to 2 TDs and almost 100 yards from scrimmage. Ju Jones and
ODB both did not score once again which is needed to move Ball over the
hump. Anyway they scored 17.5 pts and 10.5 pts which is not too
horrible but they are languishing at WR18 and WR19 in the PQBFL after 4
weeks which is not acceptable. Heck, Ballers backup WR Golladay
is even outscoring them both, who would have thought! On defense,
the Bears did well with 12.5 pts by keeping the previously hot Bucs
offense in check. So far the Bears D is #1 in the PQBFL even
outscoring the Jags (FE) by a healthy margin of 3.4 pts per game.
The GloriousBastards were the week’s favorites based on projections
before TNF but finished a disappointing 6th despite scoring a
season-high 160 pts. Brady had a somewhat decent game with 22 pts
following his week 3 disaster, but still threw 2 INTs which did not
help matters. Elliott finally had a good with both good stats and
a TD instead of one or the other like he did earlier this year, this
time with 240 total yards and a TD. On MNF, K Hunt had a 19.5 pt
game to beat Beaud but it was not enough to climb over FE, Old, Adm,
and Ball who were all within 10 pts of Bas. The Bas GM did not
trade for a kicker and it bit him in the a$$ given how close this week
was. Zuerlein is injured and D Hopkins was on bye. Mayfield
provided an immediate boost at the rookie position and his 295 yds + 2
TDs were great, but his 4 turnovers cost Bas at least 2-3 ranks and
also cost the Browns in a close loss. Note that college QB M
Milton had a 6-TD and no turnover game and is quietly the top college
player in the PQBFL.
The BeaudoinBrothers scored 156.75 pts but surprisingly this was only
worth 7th place. Given how close the standings were the Bros got
the short end of the stick. Part of it should be blamed on the
coach who was asleep at the wheel and started injured R Jones when he
was announced OUT on Sunday morning. Backup L Collins scored 15.5
pts on the bench so this single mistake cost the Bros a whopping 5
rank-points: it made the difference between 2nd place and 7th
place. Rarely does a single decision make this much of an impact
but it did this time. Most likely when it’s all said and done at
the end of the season we should remember week #4 because it will cost
at least one rank in the final standings. So what could have been
a very strong 2nd place turned out a 7th place disaster and it masked a
lot of good news. Stafford did well with 25.25 pts and seemed to
be over his early season funk. Even backup Luck was benched but
he seems recovered from last year’s injury and scored 37 pts.
That starting decision was costly as well: Beaud would have finished
3rd with Luck instead of Stafford. D Johnson scored a TD and had
over 100 yards so he seems to be getting on track. M Lynch
continues to do well in replacement for Fournette, this time rushing
for 130 yards against the Browns. On defense, Mack continued his
good work with 12.5 pts and after 4 weeks he leads all defensive
players, including LBs and DBs. LB Schobert also had a good game
with 18 pts and he has the most total points scored of all LBs in the
PQBFL, his average only being second to D Jones (Dec) who only played
one game and got injured.
Rarely is a team completely annihilated by all other teams like Wax
this week – Wax scored 54 pts less than 7th place Beaud. Despite
holding on to 2nd place, Wax now is only 4th in total points scored and
only has a small lead over three others. The only good news of
the week was the continued production of rookie LB D Leonard who added
another 17 pts. He continues to lead all rookies and he is even
outscoring all non-rookie defensive players in the PQBFL. However
on the offensive side, this week was an unmitigated disaster for
Wax. A Rodgers only had 1 TD and 2 turnovers in a 22-0 win
against the Bills – what was that? Jordan Howard only 2 pts in a
48-10 win? Whoa, mind boggling! Mixon, Carson, and Clement
were all injured which only left Crowell on the bench with his paltry
0.25 pt. A Brown continues to whine like a little b1t*h every
week; he did score this week but 15 pts was below his weekly
production. M Evans could not get anything going as his team was
trashed by the Bears. At TE, Doyle is injured and Jo Reed was on
bye, so Hooper was forced to start and only caught one pass. Even
the Rams defense was porous, only scoring a single point against the
Vikings. Hopefully Wax can successfully turn the page – this was
a week to forget.
