The Decepticons crushed the competition with over 180 pts and took
sole possession of first place in the standings. The Cons would
have done even better if they had started QB Mahomes who was benched
with 48.25 pts. Brees started and was adequate with 18 pts, but
not a Mahomes-like performance. Now we are looking at the
possibility of a new QB king to replace A Rodgers (Wax). The week
started strong for Dec with 3 TDs from AJ Green on TNF only to be
followed by co-starting WR Diggs who outscored him with 30.25
pts. Injuries have been piling up on defense for Dec but so far
the team has not missed a beat because the healthy ones are clicking on
all cylinders: JPP 12 pts, J Davis 15 pts, and J Adams 14 pts.
Only JJ Watt failed to score more than his projection this week but he
matched it with 9 pts. Dec was able to win easily without getting
a score from Kamara and McCaffrey which is a sign that there is still
potential for improvement.
The Admirals had a strong week with 160.75 pts and second place.
WR M Thomas had another huge week with 12 receptions for now a total of
28 receptions in 2 weeks – he’s almost already there for a
100-reception season and we barely started! D Hopkins scored a TD
and had over 100 receiving yards. Gurley did not gain much
yardage but he did not have to, given that he scored 3 times.
Newton was the top scorer on the team with 29.5 pts in a losing effort
in Atlanta. Adm scored on the most interesting play of the week
with DB K Byard throwing a 66-yard TD pass on a fake punt, which is the
first time in PQBFL history that a DB has a TD pass. This
helped Byard finish the game with 17 pts. We should also note
that backup TE Ebron filled up nicely for injured G Olsen by scoring a
short TD.
WaxOnWaxOff finished near the top for the second straight week which
places Wax in second place overall, only one rank-point behind
Dec. Wax had a very up and down week. Wax had the balls to
bench A Rodgers and it paid off because Roeth had a monster 40+ pt game
in a losing effort, but A Brown only got 12.25 pts of that production
in part because he got hurt, which is the same which happened to Wax’s
L Fitz and RB Mixon. The other RB J Howard was not particularly
impressive on MNF with 5.5 pts. Wax received a surprising boost
from rookie LB Darius Leonard who had a whopping 15 tackles, 3 assists,
1 sack and one forced fumble. The Rams were near perfect in
blanking the Cards with only 137 yards allowed. In addition to WR
injuries and Mixon’s injury, CJ Mosley got hurt early in the game
before scoring a single point. It is hard to have a great week
with so many in-game injuries.
OldNo7 rebounded from a bad week #1 by finishing in the top half, led
by 4 TDs from M Ryan. Franchise player Gordon did not do much
yardage wise (28 yds rushing and 38 yds receiving) but he scored 3
times. The other big game for Old was A Thielen who had 12
receptions and a TD. We should have seen it coming, but if
Thielen was able to put up big stats last year with a subpar QB, what
is he going to do in 2018 with Cousins (FE)? There has been no
learning curve necessary for Cousins so far on his new team.
Defense was more problematic for Old, in part because the coach started
injured Preston Brown, but also because M Garrett (1 pt) and D Lee (4
pts) did not get the job done. Drafting a rookie TE worked for
Old last year with E Engram, but it’s not giving the same results this
year if this week is any indication, with Gesicki who was held
scoreless (and last week, 1 rec 11 yards) .
FlyingElvis had another so-so week and finished 5th again. K
Cousins had a monster game with almost 40 pts but he was about the only
player to show up for FE. It will be hard for FE to compete as
long as L Bell is not on the field, and now to make matters worse D
Freeman is injured. K Drake was decent with 10.75 pts but there
are not a lot of teams in the PQBFL who can go 4-deep at the RB
position. Duke Johnson started for FE and only got 10 yards from
scrimmage. FE’s WRs are quite weak and won’t carry the team to
greatness. FE got 17.75 pts of production from C Kupp and
Crabtree which is not that bad but it’s not enough compared to other
PQBFL teams. The biggest bummer of the week was Gronk who was
contained by the Jaguars defense and only scored 2.75 pts. The
fact that the Jaguars held up against the Pats helped FE because the
Jags started, but only got one turnover so they were limited to 5.5
pts, right along their weekly projection. Rookie Barkley was busy
as a receiver with 14 catches but he did not score and could not hit
double digits.
The Bastards got another rough week with 6th place and were lucky not
to finish any lower because they barely edged Beaud. The team was
slowed down by the surprise pre-game scratch of Zuerlein, in addition
to the coach starting the wrong WR to go along JuJu SS (24 pts): Corey
Davis only scored 6.75 pts and all WRs on the bench scored double
digits for Bas: Cooks 14.75 pts, D Adams 16 pts, and C Hogan 17
pts.
Ball got just enough production to avoid the basement from Goff, E
Elliott, and K Hunt who all scored double digits but all of them were
within expectations or barely above. Defense was not too bad with
C Jordan 2 sacks and K Alexander a sack and forced fumble. Note
that having 2 college games cancelled on the same week due to
hurricanes did not help matters for Bas and the coach had to start a
college WR who only had 4-34.
The BeaudoinBrothers also have a very slow start along with Bas, this
time 7th place with only 123 pts. Beaud needed one more point
from K Mack on MNF to finish 6th but no such luck. Stafford
bounced back from a poor week #1 this time with 27 pts but the rest of
the lineup is full of underperformers. The way David Johnson is
being used by the new Cards coach is awful and he should be
fired. Of course Johnson was playing the Rams and he’s not the
first RB to be limited to 4.25 pts against that defense, but to not use
Johnson as a receiver when playing from behind is ridiculous.
Ajayi was adequate in replacement of Fournette but he played with a bad
back and spent several drives on the sidelines. He ended up with
7.25 pts. Keenan Allen is another major disappointment early
on. The Chargers scored 31 pts in Buffalo but most of the scoring
was by M Gordon. On defense, Reshad Jones started after being
benched last week when he had 2 INTs, but this week he produced a dud
with only 3 pts.
The Ballers crashed back to earth going from 1st in week #1 to last in
week #2. The team benefited from an improvement in D Watson who
scored 24.75 pts this week, and also benefited from Matt Breida’s long
TD to finish the game with 21.25 pts. The other RB Chris Thompson
continued to do decent work despite the Skins being held scoreless by
the Colts: Thompson only got 4 rushes for 1 yard but he was by far the
most active in the passing game and made the maximum of his 14 targets,
hauling in 13 receptions for 92 yards. He is simply a WR
disguised as a RB. The rest of the Ballers’ lineup was simply
mediocre at best. The blame for this week’s struggles lies
directly on ODB and Ju Jones who only had 4-51 and 5-64, respectively,
with no TD. This is not going to cut it for such high prized
draft picks. The Ballers would have finished 6th instead of last
if they had started the Bears defense which was dominant on MNF with 18
pts on the bench, instead of the Eagles who were porous in Tampa and
only scored 1.5 pt.
