Congratulations WaxOnWaxOff! The team won their 4th PQBFL title and 3rd in the last 9 years. Wax had
been the league favorites since about week #7 and it remained that way
despite some bumps on the road, and finally the logic was
respected. Wax clinched the title with 2nd place in week #17
which did not leave any doubt because the only way Wax was not going to
win was with a total collapse in the final week which was not even
close to happening. Wax capped the season with a good move at QB
by starting Stafford instead of top PQBFL scorer R Wilson, and it paid
off with 33.75 pts from Stafford. Backup RB L Murray added two
more TDs and has been a key to Wax's championship down the stretch
after warning up the bench for more than half the season. Those
two guys alone did enough to overcome the goose egg from Gronk who
played but did not get a single target, and also the goose egg from
Ogletree who was rested by the Rams, a move which was not announced or
anticipated as of 1pm on Sunday since this was a 4pm game.
The BeaudoinBrothers salvaged their 2017 season with a dominant win
over all other teams by winning by a large margin, which allowed them
to finish 2nd and just ahead of a
very tight pack of Dec, Adm, Old, and FE. The Bros were in
danger of finishing outside the top 3 for the first time ever but
instead they finished top 2 for the 18th time in 21 years.
Recently, good weeks and bad weeks were solely determined by whether
rookie Kizer was scoring negative points or whether he had a dominant
game, and week #17 was the latter. Kizer scored 25.25 pts
which was well ahead of his projection. What also helped this
week was that after waiting all year long for David Johnson to be
finally declared "out for the year", which the Cards never did, then of
course once he was not on the roster for week #17 then Beaud could pick
up a replacement at last and Dion Lewis did the job with 21 pts.
This was important because there would have been no other active RB to
start besides Lynch since they were all injured and Ajayi was
rested.
The Decepticons could not sustain their late season push, and not only
they could not beat Wax for the title, but also lost 2nd place to Beaud
with a disappointing 4th place this week. Dec did not even come
close to beating Wax despite Rivers scoring 34 pts. TE Rudolph
was banged up so Dec was forced to start Ebron who sucked with 1.25
pt. RB was a problem for Dec all year, and to make matters worse,
D Murray was out due to injury. Gore was fine with 9.25 pts but L
Miller only scored 3 pts. However the worst news of the week was
at the rookie position. The Chiefs rookie QB Mahomes had not played
a snap all year after 16 weeks so he was going to be eligible as a
rookie again in 2018 and would have had great saved player value for
Dec. However the Chiefs rested A Smith and gave the nod to
Mahomes which all but destroyed his 2018 value. In addition, Dec
started him (!) and benched star rookie Kamara and Kamara punished the coach
with 23.5 pts on the bench compared to only 8 pts for Mahomes.
This move alone was almost the difference between 4th place and 2nd
place this week and with a few other favorable starting decisions, if
Dec had submitted the perfect starting lineup they would have edged
Beaud at the tie-breaker for 2nd place in the standings.
The Admirals capped off a good late season rally with 3rd place this
week which allowed Adm to get out of 6th place and even to finish
4th. Only a few weeks ago it seemed unlikely
that Adm would finish anywhere but 6th. Adm ended the season with
more total points than Old and FE so Adm beat them both at the
tiebreaker. The standings were so close that by beating Dec by a
single point this week 116.5 pts to 115.5 pts, it made the difference
of two spots in the standings for the season for Adm. It was not
the
easiest season for Adm injury-wise, finishing 3rd in injury points, the
most damage being the loss of 1st round pick ODB and also not having TE
Olsen available for several weeks. This week however, at least
Adm could benefit from D Murray's (Dec) injury because D Henry had to
start with Gurley being rested for the playoffs. Henry responded
with 17.75 pts. Adm also had Hyde on the bench with 16.25 pts,
the main starter being M Ingram. No other team in the PQBFL could
lose the
top RB in the league due to rest and having the choice of two guys
scoring over 16 pts as a replacement. Adm's chances this week
were almost
killed by K Hunt being sort of rested too. Hunt scored on his
first and only carry of the game less than one minute into the game and
he never returned, but that play alone was worth 9.75 pts and propelled
Adm to 4th place.
OldNo7 finished 6th with a disastrous 85.5 pts this week and slipped to
a 5th place finish. The coach did not submit a lineup and
therefore started rookie E Engram by default. Engram was injured
and on the bench J Peppers scored 9 pts. Old finished so far
behind Bas that it did not matter, but Old lost their 9th round pick
next year because of the FE17 rule. Justin Houston also scored a
goose egg because he was rested by the Chiefs, but this was not public
knowledge, unlike Engram. F Cox also got a goose egg after
playing only 3 snaps. By resting so many players, the Rams
defense was throttled by the 49ers at home and only scored 1.5 pt while
the Seahawks scored 10 pts on the bench for Old. More than half
of the scoring for Old this week was from only two players: Baldwin and
K Allen who combined for 50 pts of Old's 85.5 pts.
FE had a remote shot at the PQBFL title before this week but crashed
down to 6th place due to an abysmal 55.5 pts this week. This was
one of the worst performance in the PQBFL history. L Bell and
Hopkins started even though they were rested or injured, but even the
rest of the offense was shitty. K Cousins' last
effort to impress to secure a contract was not a good one, with only
3.25 pts. He ends the season as the 9th best QB after flirting
with the top 5 not long ago. Jo Howard only had 14 yards from
scrimmage and a single point, to drop to 8th best RB on the
season. AJ Green only caught two short passes on 10 targets
despite the Bengals scoring over 30 pts on the Ravens to save the
Bills' ass. To finish things off on offense, TE Walker ended the game with
only 19 receiving yards, and stupid kicker D Bailey scored -5 pts
thanks to a missed extra point and a short missed FG. Thanks for
nothing.
The GloriousBastards finished the season on a decent note with 5th
place and finished last 8 times, not 9 times on the season, therefore
less than half the weeks. In this season to forget, Bas started
the wrong QB-rookie duo of Mariota + Corey Davis instead of the Dalton
+ Mixon duo. Mariota scored equal to his projection with 14.25
pts but Dalton outscored him with his last minute heroics to giave the gift of playoffs to the
Bills. Davis did not catch any of Mariota's
meagre 12 completions. The core of Bas' lineup is what allowed
Bas decent scoring this week with E Elliott, D Freeman, B Cooks, and S Diggs all
scoring between 11.75 and 14.75 pts. The Giants defense was
dreadful all year but at least this week they scored 13 pts. This
allowed the Giants to tie the Raiders (FE) as the worst defense in the
PQBFL this year given that the Raiders only scored 1 pt this
week.
