Week #16

WaxOnWaxOff took first place last week without a convincing performance, but all but wrapped up the league title this week with the team's first win since week #16 bowtie.  Wax had been the league favorites for a long time even though they struggled at times and occasionally lagged in 2nd or 3rd place.  In a season that was the closest ever, in the end we won't have a nail biting finish in week #17.  As it's been the case all year, it's the team which just suffered a major injury which came out on top in response.  Dec did it without A Rodgers, Beaud did it without D Watson, and Old did it without C Wentz.  This week, Wax's odds were not looking good with franchise player Antonio Brown out until the playoffs, but Wax beat the competition anyway with 21.25 pts from L Fitz out of the bench.  Also coming out of the bench was RB CJ Anderson who hardly played this year for Wax, but he had a key 18 pts this week as a starter.  Apart from A Brown this week, Wax has been pretty much injury-free all year and will get the last pick next year with the lowest injury points.  Wax has even benefited from injuries at times, such as this week when Wax was about to start DB Vaccaro but because of his injury, Harrison Smith started instead and scored 18 pts.  However Wax beat FE by so much this week that Vaccaro's injury had no impact.

FlyingElvis rebounded from the week #15 letdown with second place this week.  FE is now in the thick of the race for 2nd place in the standings despite scoring fewer total points than Dec, Beaud, and Old.  FE could also finish as low as 5th in the standings if week #17 is not strong.  The team leader this week was QB Cousins who scored 27.25 pts thanks to 3 TDs and almost 300 yards passing.  Cousins has quietly scored the 5th most points at the QB position yet he will probably be released as a free agent by the Skins.  The rest of FE's offense was decent, with double-digit games from L Bell, J Howard, AJ Green, and D Hopkins.  That made up for slippage on defense, particularly the Jaguars who surprisingly gave up 38 pts to the 49ers.

The Admirals finished only half a point behind FE and had to settle for 3rd place.  Adm is now 3 rank-points behind Old in the standings and will own the tie-breaker so they need to beat Old by 3 spots in week #17 to finish 5th in the standings (or if Dec, Beaud, or FE have a meltdown).  Gurley had another gigantic game with 36 pts this week, to follow up from the 39 pts he scored last week.  There are 16 drafted RBs in the PQBFL who did not even score 75 total pts all year and Gurley did it in only 2 weeks!  Gurley has been the MVP of the PQBFL because he dominated his position by over 4 pts per game which is more than other positions where the leader has not missed games to injury.  K Hunt also scored another TD this week to provide a boost to Adm towards the end of the season.  Hunt will not finish with the best average at the rookie position (D Watson), but he will possibly finish as the rookie with the most total points scored.  Brees continued to lag with only 11.5 pts but Ingram picked up some of the slack with 13.5 pts of his own.

The Decepticons disappointed with only 121.25 pts and with the recent 3-week skid, will most likely not win this year except if there is a surprising crash to Wax in the final week.  From weeks #8-13, Dec had not finished lower than 3rd.  From weeks #14-16, Dec finished no higher than 4th.  They could still finish 2nd in the standings but they have Beaud, Old, and FE right behind.  Rivers did well in replacement for A Rodgers for a while, but needed Rodgers healthy down the stretch.  Rivers scored 14.5 pts this week which is not horrible, but not matching his pace of a few weeks ago.  Kamara has also slowed down, and he was limited to 7.5 pts this week.  The Ravens D was not on top of their game and almost dropped the game against the Colts, at home.  The Ravens D did not have a turnover and only got 2 sacks.  The best game this week came from LB D Jones who scored 15 pts.  The youngster is the 7th best LB in the PQBFL and has good value as a saved player.

The BeaudoinBrothers finished in the bottom 3 for the 4th time in the last 6 weeks and are facing their worst season ranking ever unless they get their shit together in week #17.  D Kizer has not performed as well as hoped for after the return of Josh Gordon and Corey Coleman.  He did not score a TD this week and threw two more picks.  He was not alone in the turnover-fest presented by the Bros.  Brady threw a pick-6, and each of Ajayi, M Lynch, and J Landry had a lost fumble.  The only one who did the job on offense was Ertz with 14 pts.  On defense, the Cards shut down the Giants and scored a TD to finish with 23 pts.  LB injuries had a role playing mind games with the coach because L David was benched since he missed week #15 but it was a mistake because David was healthy enough to score 11 pts while backup defensive flex M Burnett got a rare start and rewarded the coach with his worst game of the year with 3 pts.  Thanks for nothing.

OldNo7's hopes of a title evaporated with their lowest score of the season since the last place of week #12.  Newton did not do the job in replacement for Wentz so reality caught up with Old.  Newton only scored 11.5 pts in what should have been a good matchup at home against the Bucs.  The rest of the offense was fine, with 147 yards from scrimmage from L McCoy, a TD and 100+ total yards from Gordon, and TDs from Kelce+Baldwin.  Only K Allen had an off game, but he managed to reach double digits anyway because he had an INT while playing defense.  So K Allen ended up being more useful on defense with the 5 pts from the INT than Justin Houston (2 pts) and F Cox (4 pts) were themselves for the entire game.  The Rams did not do a whole lot either with only 5 pts against the Titans.

The GloriousBastards difficult season continued with an 8th last place.  Next week will determine if Bas finished last more or less than half the weeks.  Elliott was back from his suspension but could not reach 10 pts.  At least it was better than other RBs on the bench.  D Freeman was held to 2.5 pts and he was a key reason for the last place.  B Cooks can be blamed too with only 3.25 pts.  Far more was expected of his this year.  Good QB, good offense, and himself supposed to be a top talent, but he's languishing at 19th best WR in the PQBFL.  Unacceptable.  Looking into the future, J Mixon has good value for 2018 but this week he got injured early in the game and finished with only 2.5 pts.  Bas will need help at TE next year because Hooper has not been top 10 and did not help his cause this week with only 3.75 pts.
