Week #14

Just one week after we stuck a fork in the BeaudoinBrothers' 2017 edition, this crazy season continued with another twist & turn with the Bros winning for only the second time of the year but taking sole possession of first place in the standings.  We'll have to wait a bit longer to count them out for sure.  The Bros were almost without a TE because Ertz was out to injury and Jimmy Graham gimpy and only scored one point.  But it did not even matter, Beaud won fairly easily with 155.75 pts.  With the return of Josh Gordon and Corey Coleman, rookie D Kizer is turning into a viable QB.  He almost beat the Packers and scored 17.5 pts.  On MNF, J Landry erased Brady's dud of 6.75 pts with 2 TDs of his own and 20.25 pts.  Otherwise Beaud got the job done with defense this week rather than offense.  If it was baseball, the Broncos would have pitched as close to a perfect game as you can imagine with a shutout and only 100 yards of total offense to the sorry Jets.  L David filled in well for injured J Collins and R Shazier with 18 pts, and Kuechly scored 18 pts as well for an impressive 36 pts from the LB duo.

OldNo7 finished 2nd this week and further squeezed the top 5 of the standings.  Old remains in 5th place, but only 1 rank-point behind FE in 4th and only 5 rank-points from 1st place.  That means with 3 weeks left to the season, there is an amazing 5 teams with a very real shot at the PQBFL championship.  C Wentz was the team leader with 30.75 pts this week in an impressive road win against the tough Rams.  However the very bad news is that Wentz is now out for the year to injury.  Fortunately Old has two other viable QBs in M Ryan and C Newton, but they are not having the season that Wentz had.  L McCoy also contributed this week with 21 pts in the snow bowl against the Colts.  Old also got a double-digit score from M Gordon, K Allen, D Baldwin, and Kelce for an strong total of 100.25 pts from only the top 6 offensive players.  Defense was more problematic with the Seahawks finishing in the red against the subpar Jaguars offense, DL Vernon being limited to 2 pts, and T Mathieu only 4.5 pts.

The Admirals finished a respectable 3rd but because Old did even better, they slipped to 7 rank-points behind Old in the standings.  K Hunt came alive with 16.5 pts which was the first time he did better than 10 pts since week #3.  Adm is still hampered by injuries to TEs because G Olsen started but he is not himself and did not catch a pass and was targeted only once.  The top contributor was Gurley with 21.25 pts against the Eagles.  Gurley is likely to finish the year as the top scoring RB in the PQBFL unless L Bell catches him late.  D Brees had a decent game on TNF with 18 pts, but his late INT in the red zone cost the Saints the win or at least a shot at OT.  On defense, the Vikings disappointed with only 2 pts in Carolina when they gave up 3 TDs and over 100 yards rushing to old man J-Stew.

FE finished only 1 point behind Adm and had to settle with 4th place.  On offense, Jordan Howard (24.75 pts), D Hopkins (27.25 pts), and L Bell (28.25 pts) had fantastic weeks and by themselves should have propelled FE to first place or close to it which would have paid big dividends given the struggles of Wax and Dec this week.  Unfortunately the rest of FE's lineup was horrible.  Cousins could not score 10 pts in a blowout loss to the Chargers.  In addition, AJ Green lost a fumble and had mediocre stats, the Jaguars D gave up a lot of garbage time scoring to the Seahawks and finished with only 3 pts, and LB Beasley is worthless and finished with only 1 pt.  To make matters worse, stupid kicker Bailey easily cost FE 3rd place with 2 missed FGs and one missed extra-point.

The Decepticons' stunning run ended abruptly with only 115 pts and the team should consider itself lucky not to finish lower than 5th.  The 'Cons fell back to 3rd in the standings but are still in good position to win the league, particularly with A Rodgers coming back to health possibly next week.  However the injury bug affected A Kamara who had been on fire previously.  A concussion limited him to 2.25 pts before being sidelined.  It seems only an injury was going to slow him down.  The 'Cons backup rookies leave to be desired so hopefully Kamara can recover quickly and not miss games.  P Rivers continued to fill in nicely for A Rodgers with 23.5 pts this week.  M Thomas had a great game to make up for lost ground on TNF with Kamara's injury and he scored 20.75 pts.  LB D Jones also did his part in that game with 19.5 pts.  However the rest of the defense was not impressive especially the goose egg by the Patriots on MNF against the lowly Dolphins and only 3 pts from the top LB in the PQBFL B Wagner.

WaxOnWaxOff finished in the red for the 3rd time this season with only 112 pts and a missed opportunity to put Dec at bay in the standings.  Wax started the wrong QB, 2016-style.  Stafford started in Tampa Bay and scored 11.5 pts, leaving on the bench 27 pts from R Wilson and 29 pts from Roeth.  Wax's coach had the guts to bench WR M Evans and it proved correct because Evans only scored 4.25 pts.  However starter L Fitz did not do much better with only 7 pts.  Gronk's suspension was painful with J Reed injured, but at least backup Doyle scored the lone Colts' TD.  Fournette had a decent game with 14.75 pts against a good Seattle defense, but the other two runners Bilal Powell and Latavius Murray were a disaster with a total of 55 yards from scrimmage total between them.  If Wax can win the PQBFL this year, it might be the shittiest set of RBs on a championship team.

The GloriousBastards finished last for the 7th time in 14 weeks.  The coach was also asleep at the wheel given the poor production from his squad, and started injured Mixon and left rookie OJ Howard on the bench with 12.5 pts.  However Bas finished far behind Wax that it did not matter.  The Giants defense did not show up at home against the Zeke-less Cowboys.  They did not get a single turnover, sack, blocked kick, safety, or whatever.  Nothing.  They finished the game with -3 pts with 30 pts allowed and over 450 yards of offense.  B Cooks was nowhere to be seen on MNF along with T Brady and finished with only one reception.  At QB, Bas started Alex Smith after benching him recently but this week A Smith came up small with only 7.75 pts.  One rare good news is that D Freeman was healthy and scored double digits against the Saints.
