After
a rough 4-week patch, FlyingElvis won for the second time of the year
to get back in the race, only 3 rank-points behind first place.
FE scored 165 pts which was the team's best week of the season and
slightly edged Wax in first place. As it's been the case for
several straight weeks now in this crazy season, it's the team NOT
supposed to win, that actually wins. FE was without a kicker this
week and the coach started McCaffrey on bye, leaving 15.5 pts on the
bench (Perine). Also, FE had 2 LBs injured so they started 2 DBs
instead, both of which did not do much (11 pts combined). But
none of this mattered and everybody else on FE's roster scored lights
out. The Jaguars defense was already the best in the PQBFL, and
they feasted on the hopeless Browns: 7 pts and less than 200 yards
allowed, 1 TD, 5 turnovers, and 5 sacks. In that game, the defensive
TD came from Telvin Smith who was the lone starting LB for FE so that
TD counted twice. QB Cousins had another strong game with 29.25
pts and he remains top 5 QB in the PQBFL. All three of FE's
receivers scored double digits, and same for Jordan Howard who did even
better than the receivers with 16.25 pts.
WaxOnWaxOff took back first place in the standings where they belong
with a strong 161.25 pts. It was about time for some of the stars
on this team to start doing what they are capable of, WR Antonio Brown
being first in line. He had not scored more than 12.5 pts since
week #6 but exploded for 35 pts this week on TNF which started things
on the right note for Wax. The boost continued all the way until
MNF with R Wilson scoring 28.5 pts and helped Wax edge Dec in 2nd
place. This can be attributed to Dalvin Cook's injury
because backup RB Latavius Murray came back from the dead, started for
Wax this week, and scored a crucial 2 TDs for 18 pts. While we rarely talk
about kickers here, it is worth noting that Wax also benefited from
geography because kickers could have had 70-yard FGs with ease in the
thin air of Mexico City and Gostkowski took advantage of the situation
with 15.5 pts for Wax.
The Decepticons scored over 155 pts for the fourth straight week, the
only team in the PQBFL to do so this year. However they hit a
minor bump on the road because they fell a bit short of FE and Wax so
that means Wax got further away from Dec and it means Dec moved down
from 4th to 5th in the nail-biting close standings, right behind FE. The story
remains the same for Dec: whoever starts instead of A Rodgers at QB keeps
putting points on the board, this time 20.25 pts from Rivers.
Rookie Kamara was instrumental in the come from behind win against the
Redskins and scored 17.5 pts. The Ravens defense has been in the shadow of the Jaguars
(FE) but they have been solid themselves, topping any other defense
than the Jaguars by over 2 pts per game. The Ravens got their 3rd
shutout of the season this week against the toothless Packers
offense. The 'Cons needed a bit more from RB D Murray if they
wanted to win this week again, but when Murray does not score TDs then
he is worthless. This week he was held to 8 rushes for 10 yards.
OldNo7 wobbled to 4th place this week. The good news is that they
are now only one-rank point from first place, but the bad news is that
they fell from 2nd to 3rd in the standings after being leapfrogged by
Wax. Rookie TE Engram could not work his magic this week and he failed to
get double-digits for the first time since week #5, with a dismal 1
reception for 9 yards. The Rams defense are having a great season
on all counts, but not this week with -2 pts because of no turnover, no
sack, and 450 yards allowed to the Vikings. Old could salvage a
decent week with lots of useless scoring from L McCoy (23.5 pts) while
the Bills were getting crushed by the Chargers. Old's coach
failed to submit his lineup in time for TNF so TE Jesse James
automatically started instead of Kelce but Old got lucky as James
unusually outscored Kelce with a solid 11 pts this week. The one
true good game on Old's team was LB Kirksey who scored 20 pts against
the Jaguars thanks to 8 tackles, 5 assists, a sack and a forced
fumble.
The BeaudoinBrothers' mediocre starting lineup caught up with them and
could not do better than 5th place and actually are very lucky because
they just beat Adm by a razor-thin 0.25 pt and Bas only 6 pts behind in
last place. If it was not for Matt Bryant's 9 pts on MNF, Beaud
could have easily finished last. Brady keeps on trucking with
30.25 pts this week in Mexico City, and both Beaud's starting WRs
scored a TD (D Thomas + J Landry) to avoid the cellar. But Beaud
was dinged by the premature return from injury of Ertz who only scored
2.25 pts and was not part of the game plan, while Jimmy Graham scored
16.75 pts from the bench. Nobody will replace D Watson at the
rookie position, but if Beaud is stuck with D Kizer against the Jaguars
defense when rookie LB R Foster is on bye, results won't be
pretty. Kizer turned the ball over all day but at least he
avoided finishing in the red with a positive 1.5 pt
RB A Peterson had a couple of decent games since joining the Cards which provided a teaser of a
decent RB replacement for David Johnson, but he's been stuffed once again this week
with 14 rushes for 26 yards.
The Admirals might be the first team in the tight top 6 pack in the
standings to fall off from contention this week with a disappointing
6th place. The Admirals are now 4 rank points behind Dec in 5th and 9
rank points from first place. The team is clearly on life support
at this stage. D Brees and M Ingram had a surge of late scoring
to push the game in OT and used the extra time to score a few more
points. They finished with 40.5 pts between them. RB Gurley
scored another TD but otherwise he was held in check by the Vikings
defense and only had 37 yards rushing. It is puzzling why Adm
started a middling WR like E Sanders with a bad QB throwing the ball
and benched Dez Bryant, and that backfired with 4.75 pts for Sanders
compared to 12 pts from Bryant on the bench. Adm is about to get
a boost at TE because G Olsen is coming back from injury so M Bennett
might have started for the last time and had another bad game with 3.75
pts.
If Adm is on life-support, then the Bastards are dead and cold by now,
with a 5th last place in 11 weeks. However Bas is not getting
blown away and is often close to other teams most weeks, but simply
cannot put it
together, dragged down by the absence of a healthy kicker, and only
having one non-suspended and healthy RB. At least the lone
starting RB Duke Johnson scored 12.5 pts which was far more than
expected
against the Jaguars, but D Freeman was concussed, Elliott suspended,
and Gillislee + Jonathan Williams aren't even playing. This
erased a 149-yard effort by B Cooks, 17.5 pts from LB Bucannon, and
even better from DB L Collins: 20 pts. With this game, L Collins
took back the top DB spot in the PQBFL. He is the only Bas player
to lead a position in total scoring, while E Elliott leads all RBs but
only based on his average because he's played 2 fewer games than other
top RBs.
