Week #9

Before the week even began, the BeaudoinBrothers lost D Watson, who was the most dominant player at any position in PQBFL history, leading at his position by almost 10 pts per game and 16 pts more than the average starter (4th best) who is not injured (Kamara - Dec).  The Bros were ready to think about 2018 because they were only in 3rd place and very close to 5th place even with Watson so do not have much of a chance to be competitive without him.  Even the coach mailed it in and started injured Ertz, the only Beaud player in the top 3 at any position besides Watson and Reshad Jones.  Perhaps that was a wake-up call for the rest of the team, but even without any points from the TE position, the Bros defied the odds and won for the first time of the season and are surprisingly back on top of the standings due to Wax's terrible week.  Several underperforming players finally put some points on the board, for example D Thomas who had his best game of the season, thanks to a garbage time TD.  Even M Lynch scored 2 TDs and 17.25 pts, the first time of the entire season that he scores double digits.  The Arizona Cards defense has been poor all year but they took advantage of the weak 49ers to score 11.5 pts, also their season best.

The Decepticons continued their mid season push by scoring over 150 pts for the second straight week and moving to only 3 rank-points of Adm in 5th place after being 12 rank pts behind Adm just two weeks ago.  A big difference lately has been the improving play of rookie A Kamara who has not only benefitted from A Peterson being traded to Arizona, but he has also taken over as the Saints' most productive RB ahead of Ingram.  Kamara scored 21.5 pts this week with 2 TDs and over 150 yards from scrimmage.  With Rivers on bye and A Rodgers still injured, Dec expected the worst from Cutler but he almost doubled his previous best game with 28.25 pts.  RBs were unproductive this week again but at least both starting WRs scored double digits.  Ju Jones could have done better than 11.75 pts if he had not dropped the easy 39-yard pass from Ryan in the 4th quarter.  Dec would have beat Beaud if he had caught that pass.  wallbash

OldNo7 finished in the top 3 for the third straight week and 4th time in 5 weeks.  They are now only one rank-point from first place at mid season which is unprecedented for this long suffering franchise.  QB Wentz destroyed the supposedly decent Broncos defense with 32 pts and did so without his best receiver Ertz.  Wentz is now only a hair behind R Wilson as the league's top QB.  While R Wilson's success is problematic for Old in the race against Wax, at least when passes go to D Baldwin then Old benefits too, which was the case this week.  Baldwin scored 20.25 pts and moved up to 6th best WR in the PQBFL.  Old would have finished higher than 3rd if not for shit games from RBs McCoy (3 pts) and D Martin (0.5 pt) who were worse than RBs on the bench Forte (19 pts) and T Coleman (8 pts).  At least M Gordon's bye week is now over and Old should get back on track.

FE finished in the middle with 4th place and should consider themselves lucky by edging both Adm and Bas in a tight pack for 4th-6th place.  The top performance for FE came from the Jaguars defense who dominated the Bengals and scored 18 pts.  The Jaguars have been stellar all year except two games where they did not reach double digits (weeks 2 and 6).  FE's prospects have been hit by D Watson's injury because Hopkins is unlikely to hold on to the WR1 spot in the PQBFL with Tom Savage throwing the ball.  However Hopkins was able to put up a decent game without Watson this week, scoring 17.25 pts, which is something he could not do last year when Watson was not with the Texans.  FE was dragged down this week because both starting RBs L Bell and J Howard were on bye at the same time.  While Ty Montgomery did not do much, at least the complete loser Rob Kelley scored two short TDs to go along his paltry 18 rushing yards.  Those TDs were needed to beat both Adm and Bas.

The Admirals' debacle continued this week with 5th place.  Adm has finished in the bottom three in 5 of the last 6 weeks.  During the last 1.5 month, the only bright spot was the week 7 win.  Adm is now 5th in the standings and actually almost closer to 6th place than 4th place.  Rookie K Hunt is not doing anything anymore, including this week with only 5 pts.  QB Brees has been fine and he scored over 20 pts again, but he is no longer a top notch starting QB.  He ranks 7th best QB so not bad, but barely starter level in a 7-team league.  The good news is that RB Gurley is not slowing down and he added 18.5 pts this week.  Also G Olsen is getting closer to his return to health, which is needed because backup M Bennett is not getting the job done, particularly not without A Rodgers plus the fact that Bennett was injured too this week so Adm got zero from the TE position.

The GloriousBastards could have finished 4th with a bit more production but in the end could not do better than 6th place.  With the Decepticons' recent success, Bas has been left in the dust and are now almost 10 rank points behind Dec in last place so it is unlikely they will get out of last place.  At least now Luck was replaced by Alex Smith so it will provide a boost.  Smith becomes the instant starting QB for Bas and it paid dividends right away with 20.25 pts this week.  However as soon as one good player is added, Bas is about to lose another one.  E Elliott scored 12.75 pts but perhaps he will finally get his freakin' suspension next week so that we can move on to other news.  Bas' top 2 WRs were on bye this week (Diggs and Cooks) so it was not going to be a top week and backups D Adams and Doctson could not reach double digits.  Also it looks like Bas will get the goose egg at the kicker position for the rest of the year because Hopkins is injured and Bas is not trading to acquire another kicker.

WaxOnWaxOff was laughing all the way to the bank with D Watson's injury because that hit Beaud, FE (because of Hopkins), and even Adm who had just replaced ODB by Will Fuller.  So three teams out of four competing with Wax got it at once, leaving only Wax and Old unharmed.  Wax was already sitting pretty in first place before that happened, had the highest strength of starters, and was injury-free.  Then came week 9 and a shockingly low score of 94 pts from Wax.  They will not be handed the PQBFL trophy and they will have to work better than this to pull it off, even though they remain league favorites at this point.  This week one of the culprits was dumb shit Fournette who was suspended by the team and Wax could not get any scoring from another rookie because Trubisky and TJ Watt were both on bye crybaby.  Wax also got a zero from the kicker because Gostkowski was on bye and Santos is injured.  To add insult to injury, M Evans spent more time throwing punches than catching the football and ended the game with only 1.5 pt blackeye.  The turd will be suspended next week.  To cap off the nightmare week, the Chiefs defense started for Wax this week but they scored negative points.
