The
Admirals kicked some ass in week #2 and won by a huge margin against
everybody else except Wax. After two weeks, Adm is now on top of
the standings tied with OldNo7 - who would have thought? Adm's
top scorer was again rookie K Hunt with 22 pts. He leads the
entire PQBFL at all positions in scoring so far this year. Unless
he gets injured, he will turn out to be a huge bargain particularly
after being drafted behind other rookies D Cook, L Fournette, and C McCaffrey.
Adm's success is not just a one-man show. RBs Gurley and C Hyde
both scored double digits. At WR Dez Bryant did the same despite
the Cowboys being blown out. Adm's win is particularly impressive
given the intra-game injury to G Olsen who left after scoring only 1.5
pt. Backup TE M Bennett will be needed with Olsen out several
weeks. Defense was supposed to be a sore spot for Adm this
season. The team might only have 2 LBs who are DL-type (V Miller
+ C Jones), but if they score 14.5 pts and 18 pts, who cares?
They each sacked the QB twice, V Miller got 5 QB hits, and C Jones had
a forced fumble this week. The Admirals are in first place and it
happened without any luck - they lead the league by a wide margin in strength of
starters. Adm finished last in 2015 and 2016 but they have made it clear that there is no more
fucking around.
WaxOnWaxOff had a strong week with 163.25 pts but came up a bit short
and had to settle for 2nd place. CJ Anderson led the way with 2
TDs and 25.75 pts. It is a bit of a mystery what led him to drop
to the 7th round in the draft, but he does not look like a backup RB or
a RB2, but instead he looks like a solid RB1. He is the top RB in
the PQBFL so
far. Gronk had a good game with 19.75 pts which was cut short due
to injury. On defense Wax was adequate with double-digit scores
from E Griffen, CJ Mosley, and Z Brown. Wax would have needed a
bit more from the Chiefs to take first place this week. Despite 6
sacks, the Chiefs D gave up over 400 yards to the Eagles which was a
drag. Antonio Brown also had an off week, only scoring 8
pts.
OldNo7 got lucky and emerged on top of a tight pack from 3rd place to
6th place with 120.75 pts, only 3.75 pts away from finishing 6th.
Old is now tied with Adm in the standings, but does not have the
tiebreaker due to being outscored significantly this week.
Finishing 3rd was probably the only good news for Old this week with
the rest being mostly negative. Franchise player McCoy only
scored 3.5 pts after being held in check by the Panthers. It
looks like his weekly floor is not very high and whenever the Bills
cannot get moving, McCoy will not be able to generate scoring all by
himself if the rest of the Bills offense is stuck in neutral. A
Cooper only scored 5.5 pts against the Jets, while his teammate
Crabtree scored 3 TDs. At this rate, Cooper will not be able to
justify his draft status. Things are not much better for D
Baldwin. The entire Seahawks offense looks dreadful and his 8 pts
might not be a one-off event. The only good news was T Kelce
scoring 19 pts against a decent defense (PHI). The Chiefs are
clicking on all cylinders and Kelce might very well finish the highest
scoring TE this season. He is the top TE after 2 weeks.
The Decepticons finished right behind Old in 4th with 120 pts, but
right in front of FE and Beaud. A Rodgers was the top scorer with
17.75 pts thanks to a couple of garbage time TDs in the 4th quarter
in a blow out loss. Issues at RB continue to emerge for Dec with both
D Murray (3.25 pts) and L Miller (7.25 pts) being unimpressive, banged
up, and already losing a significant number of carries to the backup RB
of their own NFL team. In a week where several teams were very close
in the rankings, any kind of scoring was valuable and this is what WRs
Ju Jones and M Thomas provided. They did not find the end zone,
but they combined for 10 receptions and 197 yards which got the job
done. On defense, Dec was boosted once again by the Ravens
defense which was dominant with 5 turnovers against the Browns.
FlyingElvis finished no better than 5th this week in large part due to
the bone head move of the coach to start injured J Freeman and to bench
the Raiders defense which was playing the Jets. Wait, what?
Instead, FE started the Jaguars defense which hosted the potent Titans
offense, and FE paid the price dearly because the Jags allowed 37 pts and
close to 400 yards of total offense. This ruined good
performances by D Carr (24.5 pts) on offense and K Joseph (13 pts) on
defense in that same Jets-Raiders game. One other notable game was
the one offered by RB T Montgomery. The Packers got crushed by
the Falcons and could not get anything going on the ground, yet
Montgomery found a way to score two short TDs and got enough receiving
yards to post and impressive 19 pts.
The BeaudoinBrothers got the short end of the stick with a painful 6th
place when only 4 more points would have been enough to finish
3rd. The in-game injury to J Nelson cost 3 rank-points to the
Bros because Nelson finished the game before catching a single
pass. Other in-game injuries to J Graham, J Collins, and D Kizer
left valuable points on the table for Beaud as well, however we should
not hide the fact that J Graham was not doing anything prior to his
injury, and Kizer turned the ball over 4 times while he was on the
field. The only player to show up for Beaud this week was Brady
who scored 35.5 pts and relieved some concerns which existed after week
#1 about whether he was over the hill or not.
The GloriousBastards got destroyed this week with a paltry 88.25 pts
and another last place finish in two weeks. Let's be honest, this team will
not go anywhere until franchise player A Luck gets healthy.
Mariota scored 13 pts against the decent Jaguars defense, but that is
not franchise-player level of scoring. First round pick E Elliott
would have been better off being suspended since he was not motivated
to play anyway in a shitty effort of 9 rushes for 8 yards. At WR,
after a strong week #1, S Diggs dinged Bas with only 3.5 pts while D
Adams scored 19.75 pts on the bench. It is also stunning that the
other starting WR B Cooks could only get 2-37 in a game where Brady
finished the game 30/39 with 447 yards.
