OldNo7
started the season with a bang, taking the honors in week #1 after
doing so only once all of last year. Old had a short 2-week stay
in first place in 2016 which quickly disappeared, but now Old is back
at it and hoping for a first league title since joining the PQBFL in
2000. It's only one week, but Old's win should not be taken
lightly because the team that won week #1 in the PQBFL ended up winning
the championship in each of the last 4 years. Old only scored 3
TDs but it was enough for first place given how low scoring the week
was. Matt Ryan only threw for 1 TD but it was a long one so that
single play counted for almost 11 pts out of Old's 133.75 pts. L
McCoy, M Gordon, and A Cooper all scored between 12.5 pts and 13.5 pts
which was not stellar but just good enough. Justin Houston
provided a spark on defense with 2 sacks and hitting Brady 4 times.
FlyingElvis had a pretty shitty offensive week, with kicker Bailey
being the top scorer with 11.5 pts, which is never good news. To
make matters worse, second round pick J Howard is in danger of having
his role significantly reduced due to the surprising production of
rookie RB T Cohen in the season opener and if this continues, the Bears will need Cohen on the field.
L Bell was quite rusty and did not contribute much this week, but he
will get better later in the year. FE finished as high as second
this week simply because the Jaguars defense was so dominant against
the Texans. In addition to scoring a TD, the young Jax defense
held HOU to barely 200 yards, in addition to creating 4 turnover and
sacking Savage+Watson no less than 10 times
The Admirals had a great opening night on Thursday with rookie K Hunt
destroying the Pats defense with almost 250 yards from scrimmage and 3
TDs for a total of 35.5 pts. Hunt was the top scorer of the
entire PQBFL. Not bad for a rookie who fumbled on his first carry. Adm was sailing towards a week #1 win but
was let down on SNF and MNF by bad games from D Bryant (4 pts), E
Sanders (4.25 pts), and D Hunter (2 pts). More was also expected
from D Brees who finished with 14.5 pts which is not all that bad but
below projections nonetheless. Hurricane Irma also had a role
because it forced Q Flowers' game to be postponed and Adm's coach slept
at the wheel and started him anyway. Fortunately backup J Hurts
did not score enough points to make a difference between 2nd and 3rd place.
The defending champions Beaud have gone from preseason favorites to underdogs
in record time. The entire team was mediocre from the very
beginning, with Brady being shut out by the Chiefs defense on TNF,
until MNF when D Thomas and the Broncos defense could not do any better
than 8.25 pts and 8 pts while 3rd place, 2nd place, and even 1st place
were still within reach. But the biggest worry was the top
franchise player in the entire PQBFL D Johnson getting injured for
several weeks which will be impossible to replace and the Bros have a hill to climb going forward.
Almost nobody got the job done in week 1, including J Graham with only
8 receiving yards, K Mack who was held to 4.5 pts, and the coach who
started Josh Allen instead of Sam Darnold, costing the team 3rd place.
WaxOnWaxOff limped into 2017 with a shitty 115.25 pts and 5th
place. Apart from A Brown who was dominant but did not score a
TD, the rest of Wax's offense could not reach double digits except for
rookie Fournette who scored 15.25 pts. Defense was decent with 13
pts from Mosley and 10 pts from E Griffen, but the Chiefs had to start
on the road against the Pats which was not ideal, simply because the
Bucs D was displaced by hurricane Irma. Bad timing; the Chiefs ended the game
with zero. At least they were able to hold Gronk to a pedestrian
game 2-33 but since Gronk is on Wax's own team, that did not help
matters. Just like what happened all year in 2016, Wax started
the wrong QB. Roeth was playing on the road so he was
benched. R Wilson started but he only scored 5.5 pts, far less
than Roeth with 15.25 pts. This decision made the difference
between 3rd place and 5th place.
Similar to Wax and Beaud, preseason favorites Dec started off on the
wrong foot with only 109.75 pts and almost finished last. A
Rodgers was ok with 17 pts considering that he was playing against the
Seahawks defense. Lamar Jackson was surprisingly the second best
on Dec's squad this week with 15 pts on Saturday, thanks to 6 TDs, and
TE Rudolph saved the day with a TD on MNF. However Dec left week #1
with several question marks. The Patriots defense was abysmal on
TNF, surrendering 42 pts and 537 yards of total offense to the
not-so-juggernaut Chiefs. Fortunately, Dec has the Ravens as the
backup defense and they were almost perfect against the Bengals.
They become immediate starters for Dec going forward. Another question mark: JJ Watt only scored 2 pts
this week which could be an off week, or perhaps he's no longer the
same player as before his back surgery. Time will tell.
Most importantly, things are not shaping up at RB for Dec. Is D
Murray going to remain the starting RB for the Titans, or will D Henry
take over? Murray only scored 5 pts this week. Lamar
Miller scored 8 pts while other RBs on Dec's roster only combined for
6.25 pts so help is nowhere to be found on the bench.
The GloriousBastards had hopes for a good week while everything was
very close during Sunday. Mariota
filled in adequately while Luck was out, scoring 16.5 pts. But the
bad news is that he'll have to fill in more than expected because Luck
is not coming back for a few more weeks, and who knows in which shape
he will be. Backup Dalton is unstartable for Bas after his
negative 9.5 pts at home against the Ravens. Bas got 100 yards
from Elliott (but no score) and a short TD from D Freeman. In
addition, backup Gillislee scored 3 TDs form the bench so he might be
trade bait down the road. At WR, Cooks and D Adams did not do
much as starters, but backup Diggs scored 22.25 pts from the
bench. So it could have been a good week for Bas as backups
outscored starters. It was even worse at TE. Hunter Henry
cost Bas dearly, being held to zero by the Broncos while backup Hooper
scored 16.25 pts on the bench.
