The
BeaudoinBrothers capped off their stellar 2016 season with yet another
win, their 7th of the year. The team finished 19 rank-points
ahead of FE and Dec in what has been a thorough domination by all
measures. Despite this, 2016 remains far off from the
record-breaking 2005 season where Beaud finished in the top 2 in 15 out
of 17 weeks and scored 106 rank-points, far more than this year's 93
rank-points (there were also 7 teams in the league in 2005).
Beaud ends the season with the best QB (A Rodgers), the best RB (D
Johnson), the 2nd best WR (M Evans), and the second best rookie (M
Thomas). On defense the Broncos were not bad, finishing 3rd, and
DB R Jones + LB Kuechly finished high but got injured so had a more
limited contribution. Note also the week #17 explosion of TE Zach
Ertz with 31.75 pts from the bench. Ertz was an afterthought in a
trade, but finished as the 3rd best TE, less than 1 pt per game behind
J Reed (Old) and T Kelce (Old) so Ertz should have decent value in
2017.
The Decepticons bounced back from their disastrous weeks #15-16 with
second place but fell short of beating FE in 2nd overall, losing due to
the tiebreaker. At least Dec was able to hold off OldNo7 and
finished 3rd in the standings. Week #17 turned out to be the
lowest scoring week of the season so it only took 129.75 pts for Dec to
finish 2nd and there were not lots of great games on the Dec starting
team. Brady was best on offense with 30.5 pts and LB Wagner was
the best on defense with 22.5 pts. Those two guys are without a
doubt the MVPs on this team, Brady finishing 2nd best QB slightly
behind A Rodgers, and Wagner ending the year as the highest scoring
individual defender.
The Admirals finished 3rd with 128.25 pts and needed only 1.5 more
point to tie Dec in 2nd which was needed to beat Bas in 6th place
overall. Instead Adm finished equal with Bas in 6th place with 54
rank-points but lost to the tie-breaker, having scored 2073 total
points compared to Bas' 2118.75 pts. WR E Sanders did not catch a
single pass against the Raiders and cost Adm dearly, but that can be
explained by an in-game injury. Brees had an ok game with 19.5
pts but most of it was in garbage time after trailing the Falcons by as
much as 38-13 before making it somewhat of a closer game in the 4th
quarter. Brees finishes the season as 3rd highest scoring player
in the PQBFL behind A Rodgers and T Brady. Adm's best scores this
week were from the Cards defense (23 pts) and D Freeman (22.75
pts). Freeman ends the season as the 6th best RB despite fellow
RB T Coleman stealing a significant portion of the carries.
Freeman was able to justify his 2nd round draft pick status after all.
WaxOnWaxOff completed the 2016 season in 4th place this week, and beat
Bas+Adm by 4 rank-points in the standings. Wax got 686 injury
points, about half of what Beaud got as second fewest, and Wax got more
than 2000 fewer injury points than Bas. It will be interesting
how the Wax GM can turn this crew of healthy underperformers around for
the 2017 season and who will be kept. What to do with QB R Wilson
who finished 13th best QB? Gurley the 22nd best RB? Will
Wax save two team defenses? The Chiefs and Vikings finished #1
and #2 in the PQBFL. In week #17, the Vikings led Wax with 20.5
pts, followed by 16 pts from M Ingram. This guy has also been an
enigma, alternating between strong games of 20+ pts and acute cases of
fumbleitis and being benched by the Saints and subsequently by
Wax. He finished 11th best RB but has been mostly worthless to
Wax due to his inconsistency making him hard to start and having burnt
Wax more often than not.
Bas finished 5th this week and having lost to Adm by only 2 rank-points
this week was able to avoid finishing the year in the cellar. A
Luck led the team with a lukewarm 16.75 pts. Luck might end up
Bas's franchise player but more will be expected than 4th best QB (=
average starting QB) which was his final spot this year despite staying
healthy and having mostly healthy WRs as well. Next year's saved
team will be greatly affected by 2016 injuries which ravaged the team,
mostly at RB. What will be the value of Lacy and CJ
Anderson? At least T Coleman was able to do a late-season push
and finished a surprising 8th best RB in the PQBFL which turned out to
be a great bargain as a 15th round pick. Bas's saved team will
also depend on whether rookie RB D Washington will dislodge L Murray
(Beaud) as the starting RB for the Raiders, and if K Dixon can be the
bell cow RB for the Ravens next year. Also, WR Doctson must be
healthy and the Browns need a half decent QB to throw to speedy Corey
Coleman. Do I hear Deshaun Watson?
OldNo7 mailed it in this week, starting injured players or rested
players Big Ben, Forte, and Ju Houston. RB L McCoy played but got
injured during the game after scoring only 1.25 pt. TE Kelce only
scored 1.25 pt and the Seahawks defense was not particularly impressive
against the 49ers, scoring only 5 pts. Rookie Wentz was the only
decent scorer, finishing with 21 pts against the Cowboys "B"
Team. Wentz ended the year as the 3rd best rookie and possibly
Old's MVP and was worth his 5th round draft status. Unfortunately
his value will be limited in 2017 because as a QB his average of 12.0
pts per game would only be good for 20th QB in the PQBFL, only ahead of
guys who might not even have a job next year (R Griffin, Osweiler, and
Romo).
FlyingElvis thought 2nd place was wrapped up after week #16 and that
Dec could not beat him because FE led Dec by 5 rank-points and had a
huge lead in total points which meant Dec had to beat FE 7 to 1 (first
vs last) in week #17. Well FE finished last by a mile, and Dec
almost finished 1st. Dec crushed FE 129.75 pts to 61.75 pts which
still was not enough to take over the tiebreaker because FE still
finished ahead by 35 total points. FE's miserable week of 61.75
pts was due to starting a bunch of injured or resting players such as
the Dallas crew. The only player to reach double digits was LB
Collins with 10 pts, everybody else was in the single digits. J
Nelson could not take advantage of A Rodgers' good game because much of
the scoring went to Davante Adams instead of Nelson. Nelson
nonetheless finished 3rd best WR in the PQBFL, a ranking which was
topped by other FE players only by rookie Elliott (1st) and K Mack (2nd
best DL).
