OldNo7
bounced back from the week #4 disaster and won for the first time of
the season and jumped back to first place tied with the
BeaudoinBrothers. Wentz was back from his bye week and it made
the difference. Although Wentz did not have his best game, his
15.75 pts were nonetheless good for rookie standards. Franchise
QB Newton missed the game to injury but Old did not miss a beat with a
"backup" such as Big Ben who is actually more like a starter.
Roethlisberger scored 32.5 pts for Old. Old did not have a
particularly stellar week on defense, but Amari Cooper scored 12 pts or
more for the first time of the year with 22.75 this week.
It was an odd-numbered week for the BeaudoinBrothers so it was a good
week. The team kept possession of first place tied, but this time
tied with Old rather than Dec. The week started well on Thursday
with RB David Johnson scoring 2 TDs and getting almost 200 yards from
scrimmage from the shitty 49ers. However things slowed down a bit
in part due to a sub-par week on defense with Reshad Jones scoring only
6 pts, Lavonte David 5 pts, and Wilkerson 4.5 pts. The Bills
defense has been a pleasant surprise however and the coach showed some
confidence by starting them instead of the Broncos and the move paid
off, the Bills outscoring the Broncos 13 to 2.5 pts, which made the
difference between finishing 2nd vs 4th.
The Decepticons got Brady back this week and he led the way with 31.5
pts and a third place. The Dec coach also had the guts to bench
franchise player Julio Jones against the Broncos and started Marvin
Jones instead. This was a wise move, with M Jones scoring 10.75
pts against Ju Jones 3.25 pts which helped Dec edge FE by less than one
point this week. Dec benefited from perfect timing at the rookie
position where regular starter Deion Jones was injured this week but
that was the one week where Paxton Lynch could start due to Siemian's
injury. Lynch provided 9.75 pts to Dec. It could have been
a better week for Dec if not for the continued injury problems at the
TE position. After acquiring Ebron via trade, he got injured
himself and Eifert + Ladarius Green are not back yet.
FlyingElvis had their best score of the year with 141.5 pts but that
was no better than 4th place so FE continues to have an incredibly
average year, each week scoring between 133.5 and 141.5 pts.
Rookie Elliott exploded for 28.25 pts and moved up to 2nd best rookie
so far this year behind Wentz (Old). QB D Carr also had a good
game with 25.5 pts and is silently the third best QB in the PQBFL after
five weeks. FE was slowed down by poor defense this week with K
Mack only scoring 3 pts and DB Logan Ryan only 2 pts. Mack has
been a huge disappointment so far, not being even in the top half of DL
scorers. And the coach can be blamed for starting Logan Ryan
against the Browns which were not expected to have the ball much
against the Patriots, limiting opportunities for L Ryan. Any
other defensive player on FE's bench did better and FE would have beat
Dec (J Sheard, K Short, S Lee, J Hicks, E Weddle).
The Bastards stumbled to 5th place this week which is now the 3rd
straight subpar week after a strong start. DL Campbell had a big
game on TNF with 21 pts thanks to a safety, 2 sacks, and one INT.
But it went downhill from there. The Texans defense scored a
goose egg in Minnesota. Losing JJ Watt has not helped, but more
was expected of the Texans anyway. Other than Luck-to-Hilton
which produced 49 pts, Bas could not get anything going on the ground
with 12 pts from Lacy+CJAnderson and also Gronk got Brady back but did
not score a TD. The rookie position continues to be a problem for
Bas. Even though Latavius Murray was out due to an injury, rookie
DeAndre Washington could not do better than 4.25 pts at home against a
bad team (Chargers).
The Admirals finished 6th and avoided last place by a hair on MNF with
a big game from TE Olsen (9-181). He was the best player for Adm
this week. The coach can be blamed for starting COL Stockstill on
bye but fortunately that decision did not cost the team, although it
almost did. The Cards defense was strong again with 14 pts but
individual defensive players only totalled 24 pts and none of them
reaching double digits (C Heyward, V Miller, C Jones, HH C-Dix).
With Brees on bye it was difficult to expect a big week from Adm and
Cousins was barely adequate with 260 yds passing, 1 TD, and 1
INT.
WaxOnWaxOff surprisingly finished last and is the only team in the
PQBFL to have done so twice so far this year. With Old, Beaud,
and Dec finishing #1-2-3 this week, it could not have been any worse
for Wax and the team fell to 5th place in the standings despite having
the 2nd best strength of starters. The coaching efficiency for
Wax ranks dead last this year with a huge margin between Wax (69.9%)
and Dec in 6th place at 77.9%. This week was better in terms of
coaching efficiency due to several bye weeks making choices obvious,
but the coach still managed to bench Larry Fitzgerald and hoping that
Edelman would be boosted by Brady's return. That did not play out
this way with Fitz outscoring Edelman 24 to 6.75 pts. With
Russell Wilson on bye and C Palmer injured, Eli Manning did not get the
job done as a starter, being held to 8.5 pts in Green Bay. As if
Wax did not have enough problems as it is, hurricane Matthew not only
wrecked the GM's vacation in Florida, but that also meant that LSU's
game was postponed so Fournette could not play and regular COL QB Chad
Kelly was on a true bye week. Talk about bad luck and bad timing.
** Stat correction
published by the NFL on October 14th: Corey Graham had 3 tackles not 4
tackles, which drops Dec from 3rd place to 4th place and FE finishes
3rd instead of 4th.
