The
BeaudoinBrothers opened the 2016 season with a flawless, methodical,
and mistake-free performance of 173.25 pts with nothing flashy.
Aaron Rodgers failed to throw for 200 yards and he had a "standard" 2
passing TDs, but he added another TD on the ground and he did not have
a turnover. Both Bros' RBs did not reach 100 yards but scored a
short TD. All three receivers Hopkins, M Evans, and Ju Thomas
caught 5 passes and less than 100 yards, but they scored a TD
each. On defense, all starters were solid but nothing special,
scoring between 8 and 13.5 pts. Rookie M Thomas caught six short
passes and did not score but he covered his week #1 projection
nonetheless. So overall the BeaudoinBrothers did not have a
single turnover and nobody scored more than a TD apart from A Rodgers, but they almost all
beat their projection slightly except for a few who came in less than 3
pts below their projection so nothing bad.
The GloriousBastards quickly indicated they do not intend to be door
mats this year with 2nd place being the best expansion team performance in the modern
era of the PQBFL. Andrew Luck was the leader
with 38.5 pts as he destroyed the Lions defense. CJ Anderson also had a nice
game against the tough Panthers defense with 23.5 pts. The GB's
second place was all the more impressive give that Gronk missed the
game to injury and with the injury uncertainty to backup Ebron as well,
Bas had to play safe and start C Walford who only scored 4.5 pts.
Ebron outscored Walford 12.25 pts to 4.5 pts but that can hardly be
seen as a coaching mistake, and despite the TE position, Bas finished
the week with the highest coaching efficiency of the league.
OldNo7 opened the season with a respectable 3rd place in large part due
to the impressive performance of rookie QB Wentz who did everything
right against the Browns. While he won't play the Browns defense
every week, OldNo7 has reason to believe that Wentz will be by far the
best rookie of the PQBFL. Cam Newton had a good game with 18.75
pts on the road against the tough Broncos defense. It would have
been difficult to expect more in the circumstances. The lack of
scoring hurt Old this week because the 2 RBs, 2 WRs, and TE only
combined for 1 TD (L McCoy) and it was a short one. First round
pick ODB had a disturbing pedestrian performance of 4-73 against the
subpar Cowboys defense.
FlyingElvis finished in the middle of the pack with 139.25 pts and 4th
place. WR AJ Green was the leader with a dominating 12-180 game
and a long TD. He was the top scoring WR of the entire PQBFL this
week. The coach probably thought we were still in preseason
because he sent college RB McCaffrey in the starting lineup despite
Stanford being on bye this week. Franchise player Adrian Peterson
had a disastrous game of only 31 yards rushing against the Titans, no
score and no receiving yardage either. Not franchising Gurley
might haunt FE all year. At least the good news is that if AP
cannot deliver the goods, both backup RBs on FE's squad have done well:
M Gordon and D Woodhead scored 14.75 pts and 15 pts on the bench
against the solid Chiefs.
League favorites WaxOnWaxOff started the year on the wrong foot with a
disappointing 5th place. WRs A Brown and B Cooks did all the work
with 55.75 pts combined, scoring 4 TDs and both having more than 125
receiving yards along with several catches. However the Chiefs
defense was stunningly bad against the Chargers and finished the game
with negative one point while the Vikings defense scored 21.5 pts on
the bench. First pick overall Gurley was limited to only 3.5 pts
against a defense which is not supposed to be that good. Finally,
LB Mosley who normally is a tackle machine only had one tackle and one
assist against the Bills. Lots of areas of Wax's lineup will have
to do better if the team is to perform according to expectations.
The defending champions sucked even more than Wax this week, barely
avoiding last place. DeAngelo Williams saved Dec from a last
place embarrassment with a garbage time TD, although he did have a
strong game nonetheless with 26.25 pts. The Decepticons defense
was utterly disastrous with the Rams plus all 4 defensive players
combining for a paltry 16.5 pts. JJ Watt is clearly not ready
after his recent surgery and only scored 4 pts. High priced DB
Corey Graham only scored 3 pts and the Rams defense did nothing all day
and finished with 1.5 pt. Dec would have had a better week had
Julio Jones not tweaked his ankle but Dec finished far behind Wax that
it would not have mattered.
Last year's last place team the Admirals might be in for another long
season and finished last, like they did 6 times last year. The
surprise illness to C Ivory did not help and Adm would have likely
finished 6th if not for the late news on Ivory. Starter D Freeman
was limited to 3.25 pts and will probably not perform according to his
draft status because backup Tevin Coleman will be too involved in the
offense. Freeman had 11 carries compared to Coleman's 8
carries. Dez Bryant was another sore spot for Adm. Bryant
is not in sync with rookie Prescott yet and only had one short
reception on 5 targets while Witten had 14 targets and Beasley 12
targets. The rookie position will also be a pain for Adm until
further notice. Starter D Henry only had 3 carries, and backup
rookies did not do any better with Treadwell not even playing a snap
and WR Braxton Miller only having a short reception. The only
positive for Adm this week was the strong game of Drew Brees with 35.25
pts against the Raiders defense which is supposed to be decent this
year.
