Week #8

This week was the BeaudoinBrothers' turn to crack 200 pts in a crushing win, surpassing every team by at least 45 pts.  The Bros took advantage of the Decepticons' struggles to cut Dec's lead in the standings in half from 6 rank-points to 3 rank-points.  Who would have thought that it would be possible for any team to have their best player (A Rodgers) throw for only 77 yards with no TD and score more than 200 pts?  For one thing, Beckham Jr had by far his best game of the year with 3 receiving TDs and finally carried the team on his shoulders after several so-so weeks.  The rest was mostly defense.  The Pats started it all on TNF by holding the Dolphins to only 7 pts and less than 300 yds.  Then JJ Watt printed his number all over the Titans QB by registering 9 QB hits and 2.5 sacks.  Kuechly ended it on MNF with 9 tackles, 5 assists, and 1 INT.

FlyingElvis finished in the top 2 for the first time this year and is now only 2 rank-points from third place in the standings.  The story was the same this week: T Brady is scoring the bulk of FE's points, but this week was particularly extreme with 37.75 pts from Brady.  After 8 weeks he has the largest lead of all at any position with 29.1 pts per game compared to 22.3 pts per game for Rivers (Dec).  Rookie Gurley made a good contribution with 20 pts.  This was his second straight 20+ pt week, following his 2 double-digit games in week 4-5 before the week 6 bye.  He has climbed to 2nd best rookie in the PQBFL behind J Winston (Beaud).

The Admirals surprised everybody by reaching the top 3 for the first time this year and scoring more than 135 pts for the first time of the season with 150.25 pts.  There is only one reason why this happened: Drew Brees.  With an eye-popping 7 TDs and 500+ passing yards, his 55 pts are among the highest weekly scores ever.  One would have to check the record book to confirm if it was the highest ever.  The rest of the lineup was spotty as usual, but Adm got decent scoring from Decker (14 pts), and the kicker (15.5 pts).

The Decepticons finished 4th for the second straight week and luck seems to have run out.  Unlike last week where the team benefited greatly from tons of garbage points from Rivers and FE's coaching mistake, this week Dec finished just short of Adm (2.25 pts behind) and for the first time in weeks did not get any miracles on defense and did not score a defensive TD.  Quite the contrary: the Jets D was stunningly bad with negative 3 pts by allowing 34 pts to the Raiders and not getting a single sack or turnover.  The Texans were benched at home against the Titans which was a big mistake because they outscored the Jets by 21 pts which would have been good enough for 2nd place this week.  While injuries have hit Dec, the team was not particularly affected this week again with Rivers scoring 29 pts and might have taken over the starting role over Big Ben anyway.  At rookie, Mariota missed another game, but backup S Anthony scored 12.5 pts which is almost Mariota's average anyway.  The strong depth of Dec has allowed the team to survive injuries so far.

OldNo7 could not follow up last week's season high and finished 5th this week.  R Cobb was held in check like the rest of the Packers offense with only 7.75 pts.  However defense was the major problem for Old this week, not even able to reach 20 pts total.  The top scorer was L Timmons but that was only 6.5 pts and the Seahawks D  with only 6 pts.  Liuget was nowhere to be seen with a goose egg.  Newton was Old's top scorer with 18.5 pts but it could have been better because Newton had 2 turnovers.

WaxOnWaxOff finished last for the second time this year and in the bottom 2 for the 4th time in 8 weeks which is not worthy of a team competing for the league title.  Coaching was disastrous once again.  So far this season, Wax is next to last in coaching efficiency, barely above Adm.  Luck was sent in the starting lineup against the tough Panthers defense, instead of E Manning against the soft Saints defense.  Luck scored 12.25 pts and Manning on the bench got 46.5 pts.  B Cooks was benched with his 25.25 pts.  But worst of all, if the coach thought Luck was going to light up the scoreboard, why start the Panthers defense?  The Rams were playing the lowly 49ers and easily outscored the Panthers 13.5 to 6.5.  That was a very puzzling move where the coach outsmarted himself.
