After two weeks of play, three tiers are developing: Dec + Beaud at
the top, FE + Old in the middle, and Adm + Wax at the bottom of the
league. Week #2 was a perfect inversion of ranks 1/2, 3/4, and
5/6 compared with week #1.
The BeaudoinBrothers edged the
Decepticons on a nailbiter on MNF with Brandon Marshall's late TD
making the difference as Dec was leading by a hair prior to Marshall's
score with only 6 minutes left. This turned out to be the last
passing play of the evening for the Jets. Aaron Rodgers led the
charge for the BeaudoinBrothers despite playing against the Seahawks
defense. The second best scorer of the week for Beaud was
surprisingly backup LB Shazier who was all over the field against the
49ers: 11 tackles, 4 assists, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble
recovery. LB Kuechly was out to injury and the Bros' defense did
not miss a beat.
The Decepticons had another strong week with 176.75 pts but fell short
of first place. Dec still leads in total points scored after two
weeks however. Roethlisberger made it look like he was playing
against a high school defense with 3 TDs, two 2-pt conversions, almost
400 passing yards and completing most of his passes for a near perfect
QB rating. Julio Jones was second best on Dec's team with 13-135
but he did not score a TD. He leads all WRs of the PQBFL after 2
weeks. The only reason Dec did not win this week is due to
another dismal game on the ground for RB D Murray. It was hard to
imagine he could do worse than week #1's performance of 9 rushing
yards, but he did: 13 rushes, 2 yards.
OldNo7 came in 3rd this week on the back of first round pick Antonio
Brown (25.75 pts). The second best scorer for Old was unexpected:
LB Jamie Collins sacked the Bills QB 2.5 times and got 24.5 pts.
It could have been a better week for OldNo7 but the team lacked
contribution from key position players M Forte, L Miller, R Cobb, and T
Kelce who did not score a single TD. In Green Bay, Russell Wilson
did fine with 21.25 pts, but the Seahawks defense had more than they
could handle and only scored 1.5 pt for Old this week.
FlyingElvis salvaged 4th place this week when Adm tripped up on
MNF. Brady crushed the trash talking Bills defense with 30.35 pts
and he leads the PQBFL so far with 60.75 cumulative pts scored.
Only Aaron Rodgers is even above 50 pts so far, and barely (51
pts). FE got a bit of good news with the awakening of Adrian
Peterson who ran for 134 yds and added 58 more through the air.
Now he needs to follow up with TDs and stop fumbling otherwise his
score is limited, like this week with a mediocre 12 pts. FE can
blame defense for not doing better this week. FE was absolutely
abysmal with only 23.5 pts combined from the Dolphins (who were playing
one of the worst, if not the worst offense in the NFL = Jaguars) and
all 4 individual defensive players. To give an idea how bad FE
was on defense: the second worst score for DEF+DL+LB+DB+DX was 45.5 pts
by Wax, almost double FE's score.
The Admirals were looking for a bounce-back week after finishing last
in week #1. It started well on Thursday with the Broncos scoring
19 pts and D Thomas scoring 13.75 pts but kept getting worse as the
week went on. On MNF, Adm had a shot at 3rd place with a good
game from RB Ivory and WR A Johnson, but both did nothing, combining
for less than 10 pts. Adm had strong output from defense this
week. In addition to the Broncos good game in KC, Chandler Jones
got three sacks and Ansah had one as well, which contributed to Adm
having the best score of the PQBFL on defense this week. Adm was
significantly affected this week by E Lacy's injury who left the game
early after only three carries and scoring only 0.75 pt. With a
full game of work by Lacy, Adm would have finished at least 4th, if not
3rd.
WaxOnWaxOff is now concerned because 2015 is not looking like 2014
after all. Last year, Wax rebounded from a poor week #1 and
finished first in week #2. However this year Wax barely reached
100 pts in week #2, which is Wax's worst score since... week #1 last
year (99.25 pts). This finally ends Wax's streak of avoiding last
place. The last time Wax finished last was week #15 in
2011. Wax's streak is therefore over after 54 straight weeks of
not being last. The record held by the BeaudoinBrothers of 64
straight weeks without being last (2003 week #3 until 2006 week #15)
will live for at least another few years.
The good news for Wax is that the team's groomed franchise player
Andrew Luck could not have picked a better time to have such a shitty
game on MNF (6.25 pts) because Wax was going to finish last no matter
what. Might as well get the bad game out of his system now.
Not sure the same can be said about RB Jeremy Hill who finished with
negative 2.75 pts due to two fumbles and then being benched by the
Bengals. Note that Wax is 3rd in the league in strength of
starters after two weeks - the problem is disastrous coaching, dead
last by far with only 61.2% efficiency. So maybe there is still
hope.
