The Spitoons won week #2 and took control of the first place in the standings with an impressive 173.5 pts.  Most of Spi’s production came from only three sources: Schaub led the Texans to a comeback and scored 30.5 pts.  The Steelers defense scored a TD, got 4 sacks, and caused 6 turnovers in a win in Tennessee.  LB Harrison was part of this performance by contributing 2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles in addition to double digit tackles.  Few expect Spi to stay in first place however.  This team is unbelievably thin at skill positions, particularly at RB where it turns out Shonn Greene might not get more than 50% of carries in New York.  S Rice’s injury is not helping either, although it was known pre-draft.

The Decepticons came second this week, less than three points behind Spi.  F Gore had a strong game on MNF with 24 pts but came up just short.  J Cutler had another good game with 26.25 pts as the Bears won in Dallas.  Only P Manning has outscored Cutler so far at the QB position.  Similar to Spi, Dec might have an issue at RB due to having only one true starter (Gore) particularly because J Charles is not carrying the load as much as expected with the veteran T Jones having a significant share of the carries.  At least this week, the weakness was masked by WRs A Johnson (26.75 pts) and M Austin (18 pts).  LB Timmons was also part of the Steelers’ feast with 12 tackles, 3 assists, and one forced fumble.

Wax finished in the top three for the second straight week and the defending champs are the clear league favorites at this point.  Wax got good production from receivers with S Smith (14.25 pts), R Wayne (17.75 pts), and D Clark (17 pts) all scoring a TD.  Rookie J Best had another monster game with 3 TDs (38.25 pts) and many team owners will regret not voting to cut him from Wax’s team.  Only Beaud and FE thought he was worthy of votes while everybody else did not rank him on Wax’s top 10.  Horrible!  Wax is always looking for improvement and needs to look no further than defense.  Best’s performance exposed a worrying flaw with the Eagles defense which could not hold the sorry Lions led by backup QB Shaun Hill under 30 pts.

JakesBlues followed last week’s win with a respectable 4th place, unlike last year when JB won week #1 but crashed to 8th place in week #2.  Maybe this week JB can remain competitive the entire year.  D Brees had a rough outing in SF on MNF but did just enough to edge Beaud in 4th place.  P Willis also shouldered the load on MNF with 13 pts while DB Goldson was subpar with 5 pts.  This week’s performance by JB came with stable contribution all around the lineup from both RBs above 10 pts, Nicks scoring one more TD, and the Vikings defense holding the Dolphins to just 7 pts of offense.

The BeaudoinBrothers finished in the middle for the second straight week.  First round pick A Rodgers was a bright spot with 27 pts, but he was facing the Bills at home.  Franchise player C Johnson had more problems against the Steelers and was held to 2.25 pts which hurt Beaud.  Receivers including Witten did not find the end zone.  At least kicker Hartley made up for his fiasco in week #1 with 3 FGs and the win in SF to beat Dug.  One of the few bright spots on Beaud’s team is the performance of LaRon Landry.  During the draft, Beaud had the guts to wait until the last three rounds of the draft to take all three DBs (did not save one), expecting great talent to still be available at the very end.  So far it has paid off with Landry scoring 18.5 pts two games in a row, which he accomplished without a TD, without an INT or forced fumble, and with only one sack.

The Dugongs did better than week #1 (last) with a 6th place this week.  Dug could have beat Beaud but V Davis scored 9.75 pts (not bad) instead of benched A Gates (17.75 pts).  The Dugongs were last to fill their roster with a QB and the season might be long.  Palmer has been adequate but not great.  This week he only scored 4.5 pts against the Ravens.  The Dugongs got all their production from RBs this week with A Peterson and L McCoy scoring 20.5 pts and 28.5 pts.  Note the disastrous -2 pts scored by the Skins defense against the Texans.

OldNo7 finished 7th this week with only 125.25 pts.  Old was hoping for more, and while the Saints were average with 9 pts on MNF, Crabtree was a bust with only one reception.  RB Brandon Jackson was picked up to replace injured Ryan Grant.  Jackson only rushed for 29 yds at home vs the Bills which is a worrying sign.  At least he scored a short TD.  Old took the lead in injury points and looks to stay there the entire year.

FlyingElvis took 8th place with 112.75 pts.  Brady was dominated by the Jets and had three turnovers.  M Turner got injured after a productive first half (75 rushing yards).  Aromashodu got the goose egg, following a disastrous start by Berrian in week #1.  Horrible job at picking starting WRs so far.  O Daniels seems to still be affected by his injury from last year and ranks 20th TE out of 22 so far.  The Patriots’ kicker missed a FG.  FE’s college QB is suspended.  It’s just hard to find good news on this team.

UncleJack is now in the cellar with a 9th place this week.  As it’s been the case in the last few years, only P Manning shows up every week for this team.  Manning scored 27.25 pts and leads the league with 61.5 pts scored so far.  The rest of the lineup could make anybody puke.  Historically weak at RB, UJ at least spent early picks this year on RBs.  But they all suck.  UJ’s five RBs had the ten following scores in two weeks (none are injured): 6, 6.5, 0.5, 5.25, 0.75, 5, 6.5, 5.25, 1, 6.25.  Wow.
