9th Place FlyingElvis 79.25 pts
The red-hot Decepticons won for the second straight week and moved to within 3 rank-points from first place. The Decepticons are the first team of the season to win back-to-back weeks. After week 10, the ‘Cons had just finished dead last and dropped in 5th place, 11 rank points behind Beaud and 10 rank points behind Wax. It seemed they would fold. However three straight top 3 finishes and now Dec is favorite to win the league despite trailing a bit in the standings. Dec has no injury concerns whatsoever, in fact injuries have helped Dec because Ronnie Brown out means less splitting of carries between Pot Williams and Ronnie Brown. Dec is clicking on all cylinders right now. This week, old man Favre was a bit off with 2 INTs, but scored an acceptable 15 pts nonetheless. At RB, T Jones and R Williams did not score, but got a decent amount of yardage. Dec did most of the damage with defense. The prolific LB duo of P Willis and D Harris scored 35 pts combined. They are the top 2 defensive players in the PQBFL so far this year. The Bears D also controlled the Rams offense and scored 9 pts.
The BeaudoinBrothers bounced back from a mediocre weeks 10-11-12 with their best score since week 8. Although the BBs lost ground to Dec again, at least they took advantage of Wax’s collapse to tie Wax in rank-points in first place, although Wax holds the tie-breaker. Ochocinco had a great game with 22.75 pts as the team leader in scoring this week. Witten has been a disappointment all year, as he has only scored one TD all year, but at least this week he caught 14 passes for 156 yds. The Eagles defense was also dominant against the banged up Falcons and were the third scorer of 20+ pts for Beaud this week. The only thing separating Beaud from first place this week was the continued woes at RB. Portis is now officially on IR, along with his teammate Betts. Turner missed week 13 and backup Norwood only scored 4.5 pts against the stout Eagles defense. Gore was also a disappointment with 2 pts, but this was not injury related because he has recovered from his ankle sprain.
The JakesBlues made their first appearance in the top 3 of the standings since week #1 . The team leader was once again D Brees who led the Saints to a comeback OT win in Washington. RB B Jacobs also contributed with 2 TDs and 21.25 pts, one of the TDs being a long one and key to the Giants’ win against Dallas. Note that in that same game, P Crayton only scored 3 pts for JB. Crayton is one of the top a$$holes in the league and compared to how much he runs his damn mouth, the jerk simply does not stack up to his 34th best WR ranking in the PQBFL. On the bright side, the Packers D stopped the Ravens on MNF and scored 15.5 pts. Who would have thought that after 13 weeks the Packers defense would almost be on top of the PQBFL rankings, only 0.1 pt per game behind the Eagles (Beaud).
OldNo7 had a fair performance of 4th place and moved closer to Spi and Dug in the standings and are still within striking distance. Old is still trying to finish in the top half of the standings for the first time since 2002 and needs to catch up both Spi and Dug to reach the target. Matt Ryan’s injury was not a problem this week as Eli Manning scored 21 pts against the Cowboys. E Manning has outperformed Ryan this year anyway, 14.9 pts per game vs 12.9 pts per game. It’s just that the OldNo7 coach seems to prefer Ryan and has started him more often than Manning. The injury to DeAngelo Williams is a totally different story however. Old’s star RB (6th best in PQBFL) missed the game and Old had scheduled him as the starter to gamble. The gamble was worth it because backups L Johnson and T Hightower did not have much hope and both scored less than 2 pts so Old did not lose much. Old’s WRs carried the team this week, C Johnson scoring 20 pts and R White adding 19 pts.
At the risk of being embarrassingly repetitive , Dug finished in the middle of the standings for the 12th straight week. Franchise player Adrian Peterson did not fumble this week, but he did not do much else against the Cards, rushing for only 19 yds. Chris Chambers could not produce miracles again during Bowe’s suspension and only caught two short passes. Dug was able to stay in the middle of the standings with L Fitzgerald’s 22 pts and Gates’ 16.25 pts. RB Kevin Smith was also decent with 13.5 pts. He currently ranks 16th best in the PQBFL and one has to wonder how productive he would be with a half decent team. Note that on defense, the Steelers had a disastrous 4th quarter against the high-powered Raiders offense – in Pittsburgh. The Steelers D finished the game with no turnover and almost 400 yards allowed for a total of minus 0.5 pt. Nice.
UncleJack edged Spi in 6th place but saw JB’s success leave them in the dust in 8th place in the standings. QB P Manning was unable to get more than one TD against the Titans and scored 14 pts. In that same game, Chris Johnson ran for over 100 yards but did not reach the end zone. S Holmes had the only notable performance for UJ with 22.25 pts. The crap games on UJ’s side this week came from the Chargers D (2.5 pts against the Browns), RB Grant (3.25 pts on MNF vs Ravens), and D Mason (3.5 pts on MNF). UJ should have beat Dug on MNF but Grant and Mason failed to the task.
The Spitoons might have punted for the rest of the season and failed to submit their starting lineup . Spi paid the price and lost a close one to UJ. Spi however moved closer to the top because they beat Wax anyway. Spi is 10 rank-points behind first place so hopes are still alive, although there are a lot of teams to catch up. At least Re Bush played this week, but did not do much, scoring 2.25 pts. What a bust this dude has been. A few years ago everybody thought he was clearly a better prospect than DeAngelo Williams. Right. Small Ben Roethlisberger scored 19.75 pts in a humiliating loss to the Raiders. Forte scored a short TD but fumbled once. Rookie Cushing also had an off game with only 3 pts this week. He still leads all rookies in the league, in front of P Harvin (Dec).
Wax became another league-leading team to crash and surrender a commanding lead in first place. Wax did it in week 5, Beaud did it in week 6, and Dec did it in week 7. Now it’s back to square one for Wax who holds on to first place by the skin of their teeth and have Dec also breathing down their neck. Wax seemed to be running away with the title until last week but now just made things far more interesting. P Rivers was not guilty of the letdown, scoring 27.25 pts this week. Mendenhall and R Moss were also ok with 13.5 pts and 13.25 pts. Unfortunately MJD had a rare off game with 6.75 pts at home against the Texans. Far more was expected from him. Dallas Clark was also bad with only three short receptions and a fumble. And what about the Vikings defense. They have been a top 5 defense all year and key to the Vikings’s success, but they could not stop the Cards’ offense this week and scored -0.5 pt. No individual defensive player scored more than 7 pts for Wax. RB C Wells only rushed for 28 yds and Wax did not have a college player to start because Kaepernick’s season was over (no division championship game) and Jahvid Best is still injured. In summary, a week to forget for Wax.
