Weekly Summary Provided by FE
The Beaudoin Brothers easily outdistanced the rest of the league this week to pick up their 2nd win in the past three weeks, and to take over first place. They have done this despite the fact that LT has really not been the animal this year that he normally is. LT is only the 15th ranked RB this year, which is very surprising given his past numbers. Watch out if he does catch fire because if so it will certainly be difficult for anyone to catch the BBs. BBs have 3 of the top 7 RBs and while I am sure this team will take full credit for knowing it, I am not sure anyone could have predicted Clinton Portis’s resurgence. Add to this mix Michael Turner and Ronnie Brown and you have the best set of backs in the league. Randy Moss finally came alive this week for the BBs, and another position that this team dominates is the College position. Graham Harrell is an absolute monster and we are all fortunate his points don’t count fully.
Spitoons came in 2nd this week, sneaking past Dugongs on Monday night on the strength of a good night from Wes Welker . He did this in spite of poor production from his RBs. This is surprising, given that it appears they have every RB in the league. It is a wonder that Spit has anyone left at any positions given the fact that he drafted so heavily in the RB position. R. Bush and Julius Jones combined for only 8 points, but he got good production from his receivers Wes Welker and Steve Smith, and from his LBs James Harrison and Patrick Willis. These are the two top LBs in the league, so Spit has gained some points from this two headed beast. Spit must be relieved at his QB production, at least for this week. Kyle Orton, in place of the injured Tony Romo, put up good numbers for Chicago who uncharacteristically scored 48 points, though with special teams/defensive help. Additionally, it should be noted that Spit also has a great college player in Colt McCoy, who could easily win the Heisman this year.
Although surely disappointed at not being able to hold onto 2nd this week , Dugongs must be happy to finally see AP produce as expected. He carried this team this week with a 23.75 pt effort. Other noteworthy players for Dug were Lee Evans (1 TD, 8 Rec, 89 yds) and Justin Tuck (2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and a rare safety) and Gibril Wilson (7 tackles, 3 assists, 1 int). While it could not be expected, if Dug had started the Packers, it would have been a good contest going into Monday night for 1st for him. Dugongs has got to be upset about the situation in Cincinnati with Ryan Fitzpatrick starting at QB and the general woes that team has felt. This is because he certainly must have thought TJ Houshmandeveryletterinthealphabet would be a great one for him this year. Housh is still good, but Palmers problems are having a big affect on his production for sure. Additionally, Dug is in big trouble at QB this week and possibly in future weeks. Both backups are injured (Kitna for the year) and GB is on bye…looks like possibly no points for him at QB this week.
Decepticons took 4th with 125.25 this week. Decept had two starters for Denver on Monday night and had to be licking his chops going into the game vs. New England, but Denver laid an egg. On the bright side, Eddie Royal continued his good play in the rookie position for Decept, but Jay Cutler’s 7 points could not have been anywhere near what Dec. was expecting. Decept got solid production from his RB corps and Andre Johnson had another big week, showing the first few weeks of the season were not a reason to be majorly concerned. Deangelo Hall also had a nice week for Dec. with 7 tackles, an interception, and 4 passes defended. This team is not loaded with a lot of superstars, but they have good depth at most positions and this should allow Decepticons to continue to hang around.
Uncle Jack was next with a 5th place finish this week, his 2nd such performance after a very rough three week period in which he gained only 6 total rank points. This week he was carried by Calvin Johnson (98 yd TD,154 total yards) and the linebacker tandem of London Fletcher (14 pts on 7 tackles, 5 assists and 2 QB hurries) and Demarcus Ware (7 tackles, 3 sacks and 3 QBHs). UJ has got to be just shaking his head over Peyton Manning this year. Here’s a guy who is supposed to be the best QB (ok seriously, 2nd best), and he simply has not gotten off the dime . 14th ranked overall, and even Matt Schaub has done better. This is a big shocker to everyone. Clearly he must be burnt out on all the TV commercials . UJ’s only current position point leader, kicker David Akers, was on bye last week so had no kicker, and UJ got lousy production from his rookie position which appears to be a problem position for him with the Rashard Mendenhall injury.
Old No. 7 was spanked like one of Larry Johnson’s women into 6th place this week. LJ has never met a woman he doesn’t like to hit , and now his “spitty” behavior is costing Old No. 7 . LJ has been accused of smacking no less than 4 different women in the last 5 years , something that Old (and the rest of us for that matter) may not have known when drafting him so highly this year. It is not looking too good right now for LJ, he may be in trouble with the law, which would spell trouble for Old. But then again, who needs a 2nd RB when you have Steven Jackson running roughshod over Dallas? Pillsbury Dough Boy Wade Phillips looked like a total clown on the sidelines and who could not have been laughing and smiling while seeing TO mouthing off as always? Jackson went left right and middle through them carrying himself to a league high 32.5 points this week (3 TDs, 176 total yds). The Chicago D also accounted for 18 big points (2 TDs, 4 INTs, 2 sacks) in spite of giving up 439 yds and 41 points, and rookie Donnie Avery had a good week with 16.5 points (42 yd TD, 5 Rec., 72 yds). On the DL, Old mismanaged by starting Trent Cole who was on bye. If he had started Julius Peppers instead he would have had 11.5 more points, and would have gained two more rank points.
Flying Elvis was beaten out by less than one point for the 2nd week in a row, costing him another rank point . Elvis is slipping down in the league, falling to 6th place overall though he is 5 rank points ahead of Old No. 7. Elvis was both happy and disappointed on Monday night. He was happy because Matt Cassell had a very good week which is very important for Elvis as it appears the JT O’Sullivan experiment might be coming to an end. He was disappointed in the Brandon Marshall stats. Owen Daniels had his best week of the season so far, tallying 19 points. Elvis missed out on a big opportunity with Lendale White this week. White ran wild, with 3 TDS and 156 total yards, but was on Elvis’ bench. Elvis is getting healthier at the RB and WR positions, which is welcome news, though M. Colston returned this week only to lay an egg. Elvis mismanaged his college player this week, not realizing until it was too late that Ball State was on bye, but it would not have matter much as his backup did not do particularly well. The injury to Charles Tillman took Elvis’ best defensive player out of the lineup and star rookie Matt Ryan was on bye, adding to the problems this team is suffering through.
Wax on Wax Off’s quote at the top of the web site appears to have been realized at least this week, as he dropped to an 8th place finish in what had to be a very disappointing week after taking the league lead last week. The star of the team this week was Titans rookie RB Chris Johnson (1 long TD, 172 total yds). Sam Bradford is a good college player, and Wax has several QBs who are quite interchangeable as could be seen this week. Wax started Jake Delhomme, the right choice in this case, where it could have been argued (and probably would have been by the Beaudoin Bros) that Philip Rivers was a better QB. Wax was very thin last week at RB with the tandem of MJD and Fred Taylor on bye. The Willie Parker injury is also hurting Wax. At WR, horse toothed jackass TO (3.5 pts) spent more time braying than catching footballs (not entirely uncommon) , and Greg Jennings had a subpar week. The Vikings D surprisingly gave up 48 to a Chicago team not known for offense. Wax squandered one good performance on D from his LB Lawrence Timmons (7 tackles, 3 assists, 2 sacks, 3 QBHs for 19 points).
The expansion Jakes Blues has sunk into a familiar position for expansion teams in this league . For some reason it is difficult to do well in the league as an expansion team despite a format that allows good players to go into the draft pool. Jake had good performances out of Terrell Suggs (44 yd TD, 7 tackles, sack, int, QBH) and DJ Williams who had 10 tackles, 6 assists and ½ sack. Jake’s woes were at the QB, RB, TE and Rookie positions this week. At QB, Drew Brees had an uncharacteristically bad performance with 231 pass yds but no TDs and an interception. At RB, Joseph Addai is injured, Edgerrin James was on bye, and Justin Fargas rushed his Farging-Ass off for 76 yds, while TJ Duckett basically did not play. 6.25 points out of the RB position is never good. Heath Miller gathered only 2.5 points while benched Greg Olsen had 15.5 (is Jake a Pittsburgh fan?) . Lastly, Felix Jones is hurt at the rookie position but Jake does appear to have serviceable backups in Desean Jackson (when he isn’t dropping the ball before getting into the end zone) and John Carlson of Seattle.
Note: sometimes the NFL announces stats changes and according to PQBFL rules, the results are not totally official until Sunday 1pm Eastern.
