Dugongs breaks into the win column in a controversial week. The controversy is around the fact that Flying Elvis started Willis McGahee thinking that the makeup game the Texans and Ravens will play later this season would count towards this week’s statistics. His request for a ruling before the week began went unanswered and if the ruling were known by Elvis he would not have started McGahee. However, it does appear that Dugongs would have held on for the victory, though by a much slimmer margin.

It should also be noted that yes, Elvis is writing this column and yes, he is somewhat bitter over the comments written about his drafting prowess and the perception of his team’s total reliance on Tom Brady.

Dugongs had a great week, and got unbelievable productivity out of Justin Tuck. Who could predict a defensive lineman would get 24 points? Add to it the Packers 20 point performance and Tony Scheffler’s amazing 20 points and it spelt a win. I don’t think Scheffler scored 20 points all season last year for the FE team. Dug has a great looking rookie in Matt Forte who again did a good job this week. Aaron Rodgers is answering the questions about his abilities as well, he was the top scoring QB this week in the league. One has to wonder if this team can get this kind of production consistently from the defensive side of the ball and this week may certainly have been an aberration.

Flying Elvis finished in 2nd this week, at least temporarily silencing his many critics, who jumped all over this team in week one when the starting QB (and franchise player) and WR went down in the 1st quarter of their games with major injuries. “FlyingElvis finished dead last this week and will finish dead last very often this season. “ might be a comment that the writer will think twice about now. “FE now has no chance of winning the league and is a huge favorite to finish last this season.”  might be another comment worth thinking about. “Worst Pick” Brandon Marshall had a record breaking week with 18 catches and 30+ points , while “Best Pick” Matt Ryan proved detrimental to the team by costing him a point. Another major point to make is in counter to the point “FE was the team the most reliant on a single player of the entire PQBFL, by having absolutely no depth at the position”, (speaking about the QB position) when in fact JT O’Sullivan had a 300 yard game this week though not starting for FE.  This pick may be FE’s coup-d’etat. Elvis knows how to spot talent and kept O’Sullivan as his ace in the hole, based on his own scouting of this player. He knew he would be around late and that he would put up numbers. He will prove to be a solid QB in this league. Don’t count Elvis out of this thing yet in spite of the mass of injury points he has racked up already. Lastly, it should be noted that Elvis projected points for the week this week had him in last, so clearly whoever is making these statements and projections needs to rethink his information in these areas.

WaxOnWaxOff took third this week to take a 2 point overall league lead .  This is a nice start for Wax, who had a hard time last year finishing 2nd to last. Wax appears to have recovered nicely from the 2007 season so far. Wax got a stellar effort from defensive stud Patrick Willis, who raked in 21 points. In spite of the fact that no one likes him, Terrell Owens is a monster as usual and had a great game pulling in 20.25 of his own. Wax got a great effort from his college player Sam Bradford as well, and a good total from his rookie Chris Johnson. All in all a solid week for Wax, who had many players who did not score a ton of points but were generally solid throughout the lineup.

The battle between 4th and 6th places was decided by a scant 1.5 points in total between the three places.

Uncle Jack squeaks into 4th by a measly .25 points over Spitoons, and it was the kicker David Akers who made the difference. UJ probably expected a big week out of Peyton Manning but has yet to see it happen. Manning has not been himself to this point and totaled only 11 points this week. J Norwood also was a huge disappointment this week. The big gun on this team was Detroit receiver Calvin Johnson, who led the way on this team this week. Plaxico Burress and Earnest Graham also turned in solid weeks. The rookie Rashard Mendenhall did not tally a point and could be of concern to UJ.

Spitoons benefited from the incredible Monday night game between the Cowboys and Eagles, gaining huge points from Tony Romo and Brian Westbrook to leapfrog into a 4th place finish. He got additional help from Zach Thomas who is most definitely not dead in Dallas. Spit got 56 points on Monday night. While these players were expected to get big points, their numbers had to exceed expectations for Spi. Amazingly all he needed was one more carry or one more completed pass and he would have gained an all important rank point . This was an amazingly tight race between the 4 thru 6 spots. If you take away Romo, Westbrook and Bush you had a very very average team though. Except for Wes Welker, who got 10.5 points, there was not another starter who got double digit points this week.

Decepticons was somewhat victimized by “puke boy” Donovan McNabb. Fortunately for McNabb last night’s game was not a super bowl or NCAA championship game else he would have been found puking his guts out in the huddle from nerves. Well, maybe he knew Dec needed one more completion to leapfrog two other teams in the league and the stomach knotted once again . Another big disappointment for Dec this week was Ryan Grant, with a measly 1.50 points. OUCH. Decepticons got outstanding performance from his defense, college, and rookie team. 8.0 points was the lowest number any one of these players gained this week. It is hard to believe that Decepticons would receive this type of performance on a regular basis though, and his offensive players were, well, not very good.

BeaudoinBros., the self annointed greatest team ever, took 7th place this week. LT was a bust and Randy Moss had a bad game as well. No player on this team gathered more that 20 points this week, and many players on the team had very bad weeks. If BB did not get such a great week out of Jonathan Vilma they could have slipped way down in the standings. There is a good chance this team will have many 7th or worse place finishes this year based on the lineup seen in this game . LT is clearly past his prime and is still the biggest whiner in all of the NFL. It’s a good thing BBs have Graham Harrell, as most of this team is already washed up. In a big surprise, Adam Vinatieri made a field goal of 40+ yards. Jerod Mayo is a good pick as a rookie, he will be seeing a lot of action. The Jacksonville defense is no good any more.

Newcomer Jakes Blues surely came into this week thinking they had a good team but began to see what expansion teams do in this league. It is a struggle and this week is no exception. Santana Moss led the way with a long TD and 7 catches for 164 yards. Drew Brees and the Saints have just not been what many thought they would be. Joseph Addai had a bad game and got injured during it. Justin Fargas may be out of a job with McFadden’s big week. All in all, it could be bleak for this team on a going forward basis.

Wiping up the rear is OldNo7, and what a huge disappointment the Browns have been to this team so far. Derek Anderson is looking like a one-hit wonder so far this season, though it is early yet. The Saints stink and so does Shockey, and Larry Johnson had a horrible week this week and Old has got to be thinking this LJ could be nearing the washed up point on such a bad team as KC is . There was one huge bright spot for Old though, and that was Anquan Boldin who racked up 31 points to roll up the most points by a receiver this week. Without this outstanding week Old would have had a truly horrible week. Another bright spot in Old’s arsenal is Chase Daniel. This is a bit unfortunate in that college players only receive a fraction of the pro players points, but it is something bright to look to. Additionally, Old’s defensive players were not totally horrible.

Note: sometimes the NFL announces stats changes and according to PQBFL rules, the results are not totally official until Sunday 1pm Eastern.
