UncleJack won for the first time this season but had to share first place with Spi.  This win allowed UJ to make a nice comeback and finish in front of Old in 5th place of the standings.  UJ ended the season very strong with 32.5 rank-points in the last five weeks of the season, the best team in the league during that span.  A fifth place was the team’s best finish since 2002 when UJ won the league title.  Chad Johnson had an up and down season but scored 24 pts this week to lead UJ to victory.  CJ has generally been a disappointment this season but finished 11th best WR which is not that bad.  Portis was the team’s second best scorer this week with 19.75 pts.  As shown in a separate analysis, trading Romo for Portis turned out to be a good move.  Keeping Romo would not have been particularly useful with franchise player P Manning and Portis was the 5th best RB in the PQBFL after his acquisition and he filled a key weakness.  Note that this week, rookie Brandon Jackson scored 11.25 pts – his best game of the year.  He’s been a bust however and he was only playing because the Packers were resting starter Ryan Grant.

The Spitoons finished the 2007 well with their only first place of the season tied with UJ.  They finished last by far in the standings and the 2006 champions who banked on a strong 2007 with veterans looked to have an awful saved team in 2008.  S Alexander came back to life this week with a TD but only had 31 total yds.  His 2008 value will be pretty low.  Other than B Westbrook who will probably be Spi's franchise player next year, there are no other viable RBs on the roster.  McAllister's knee injury makes him a not so attractive option for 2008.  At WR, M Harrison and J Galloway are getting up there in age and Harrison missed most of 2007 due to injury.  Youngsters D Henderson and V Jackson did not step it up in 2007.  L Fitzgerald will likely be cut.  At QB things are not so much better.  Kitna is ancient, Grossman sucks, and E Manning is only a PQBFL backup.  The only position of strength for Spi was TE but weakness elsewhere will probably cause Winslow Jr to be cut.  None of Spi's rookies are expected to be worth much in 2008 (Ginn, Quinn, Posluszny).  Both of Spi's college players were QBs - almost no value as rookies in 2008.  We can expect Spi to enter a rebuilding mode next year.

FlyingElvis was playing for honor this week, being assured of third place overall.  FE’s players did decent with a third place led by franchise player T Brady with 24.5 pts.  Brady was easily voted the PQBFL MVP this year , crushing all other QBs in the league by 4.8 pts per game, and if we exclude Delhomme who missed most of the year, Brady’s domination was 7.1 pts per game.  The second biggest domination for other positions was only 2.9 pts per game at WR (R Moss in front of T Owens).  The FE coach did not put out his best effort this week, playing MJD who rested in preparation for the playoffs.  If FE had started Dunn or DeAngelo Williams, FE would have won this week.

The Dugongs finished in the top half of the standings for the ninth straight week with a fourth place.  Dug finished 5th or better in all weeks after week #2.  The Dugongs made quite an accomplishment by going from last place in 2006 to second in 2007 and is making a second appearance on the PQBFL plaque.  This was the second best comeback since Dec went from last in 2002 to first in 2003.  In a meaningless game, R Moss played to pad up his stats and scored two TDs.  QB McNabb got a rare start for Dug because Hasselbeck rested for most of the game and McNabb did not do too bad in relief with 14.5 pts.  McNabb finished the season 9th best QB, not far behind Hasselbeck at 7th.  Boldin was a contributor this week with 12.75 pts.  Boldin was by far the best backup WR in the PQBFL, ranking 9th.  He was benched for most of the year especially after the acquisition of R Moss, with G Jennings being the other starting WR.

The Decepticons were locked in fourth place in the standings already and finished 5th this week.  Brees and Colston did their job with 18.5 pts and 24.5 pts.  Rookie P Willis had another huge game with 18.5 pts.  He finished as the second best rookie in the league.  The Decepticons will be a team to watch in 2008 due to their saved team.  They had 8 draft picks between the 5th and 9th round in 2007 and those players are usually in the zone where we determine cut or saved players.  Other than the Patriots, A Winfield (injured part of the year), and A Johnson (injured part of the year), Dec did not have star players at their position other than P Willis.  But the team had a lot of depth at many key positions.  Not having stars will not hurt for 2008 because top players are cut anyway.  However Dec’s franchise player might be weaker than other teams.  It is not clear at this point if Brees will return as franchise.

Wax had a slim chance of leaping over UJ in the standings but had no chance to keep up with the hottest team of the league.  Wax finishes the season in 7th place for the second year in a row.  Wax’s coach was considering stepping down, apparently discouraged by the sorry state of the team with all injuries.  Wax finished with 2649 injury points, compared to a league-high 1248 for Dug last year .  Wax is worried about what’s going to happen with their 2008 saved team with Delhomme, Ronnie Brown, Rudi Johnson, and Cadillac Williams all recovering from injuries.  Wax is also going to have their ass kicked in the postseason and will get the last pick of the 3rd round of the 2008 draft.  Wax only has 7 active players in the postseason, three of them are banged up (Polamalu, B Watson, and DJ Hackett), two suck (Steve Smith rookie from Giants and Julius Jones), one will be eliminated quickly (Heath Miller), leaving only Merriman who’s a defensive player on a team that will probably not play more than two playoff games.

OldNo7 could not hold on to 5th place and got crushed by UJ.  Old had their worse game of the year with only 84 pts .  C Palmer, B Edwards, and R Wayne had good games with 25.5 pts, 14.25 pts, and 14.25 pts, but the rest of the lineup played like crap.  Steven Jackson was held to 4.5 pts, MB3 barely played and rushed for minus 6 yds, Desmond Clark did not catch a pass, Ju Peppers started but was injured (Old’s coach did not show up for the game ), rookie D Bowe only scored 1.5 pt, and DB Sean Jones had a rare bad game with only 3 pts (but he finished 4th best DB in the league).

The BeaudoinBrothers finished on a sour note with their only last place of the season in a meaningless game.  The coach did not do too well by starting rookie James Jones instead of Greenway and starting Romo instead of Rivers.  Those two moves cost the team almost 20 pts .  The BBs scored only 81 pts, the team’s lowest score since week #8 of 2003 when the league did not even have defensive players.  The BBs GM elected to replace injured Willie Parker with E Graham who rested this week, to help the BBs chances in the playoffs.  The BBs passed on Kenny Watson who would have helped the BBs to avoid last place this week but Watson is not in the playoffs.
