Weekly Summary Provided by FlyingElvis
First let’s talk about the game of the year this week, the Patriots – Colts showdown resulting in a Pats 24-20 win. Everyone has been dissing the Patriots for “running up the score” but how interesting that in the final 10 minutes of this game they did just what they have been doing previously against lesser teams, to win the game. I would definitely say that the previous games were less running up the score, and more Tom Brady and Randy Moss getting on the same page (don’t forget they had no preseason snaps together at all) and also instilling into the Patriots the fact that the NFL game is 60 minutes long, every week. Everybody has really got to stop their WHINING and play football for 60 minutes.
Two other things were established in this game:
#1 – The Patriots will win in spite of every effort by the officiating crews to cost them the game, and
#2 – Tom Brady is the greatest QB of all time and proved it once again
Now that the facts have been stated, let’s move onto this week’s PQBFL summary. [BeaudoinBrothers' addition: Facts? I probably failed to understand the correct definition of that word "fact" due to English not being my native language ]
Flying Elvis takes his 2nd win of the year on the backs of the receiver, rb, and rookie triumvirate of Terrell Owens, Joseph Addai and Marshawn Lynch. Elvis is closing the gap between himself and the Beaudoin Bros. While this is only Elvis’ 2nd win of the year, he has finished in the top 2 in 5 of the last 7 weeks, increasing his 2nd place lead this week to 10 big rank points. Elvis is firmly on track with his 5 year plan of taking over this league and dominating as only the Patriot logo that symbolizes this team can. For the 1st time this season Elvis did not get outstanding production from his QB Brady, but nevertheless he still runs away with the victory this week totally squashing some people’s comments earlier this season that his is a one-man team. Other starters of note this week for Elvis were Vernon Davis who finally had a good game, and Elvis defensive players, who while not particularly spectacular in any single area, were solid across the board.
Dugongs took 2nd place easily this week to firm up their 3rd place overall standing, scoring a big 162.5 points and outdistancing this week’s 3rd place finisher by the huge margin of 44 points. This difference in points should make all other teams lose an additional rank point because with that kind of point difference it is like they are in a whole different league. Flying Elvis and Dugongs were in the AFC this week, everyone else in the NFC. Dugongs had the clear winner of this week’s PQBFL MVP of the week award with Adrian Peterson. AP is a monster , and is a front runner to be Dug’s franchise player this off season. Dugongs could have taken 1st place this week if they had started Greg Jennings in place of Anquan Boldin, but this would be a bit of a stretch on a normal week. Boldin is usually the pick, but the Cardinals look more and more pathetic every week that they play and in spite of all that receiving talent can’t seem to get much offense. Also Dug needs to watch his injury list better…he started Todd Heap this week who was out of the lineup for Baltimore.
The 3 through 6 positions this week were only separated by 8.25 points, so this week turned into a battle for those all important rank points within these positions. The Beaudoin Bros. came out of it on top, squeaking out a 3rd place finish in a week that may actually have big repercussions at the end of the season. Elvis was watching the scoreboard intently here, because if BBs had slipped to the bottom of the 3-6 logjam he would have picked up enough rank points to put him breathing right down BBs neck. The BBs held off the crowd at the wire to take 3rd and the all important 4 rank points marking the difference from 3rd to 6th. It does not appear that BBs could have done anything to get into 2nd place or better this week. A strong showing from their LBs helped them greatly, Ernie Sims and Demeco Ryans both had solid outings. BBs suffered this week thanks to the inconsistent play of the Chargers, a team BBs seem to bank heavily on. The Chargers looked like crap this week, unable to stop the monster Adrian Peterson and at the same time doing next to nothing on the offensive side of the ball . BBs started Gates and Tomlinson who both did not do much, and were also fortunate to not start Philip Rivers who had a horrible week. BBs had a strong college pick in Graham Harrell who has helped them all season.
Uncle Jack snuck into 4th place this week powered by a strong Monday night. UJ had been mired in a slump for 4 weeks prior to this one, having finished last 2 times, 2nd to last once and 3rd to last the other. He got 20 big points out of the Steelers D and also a nice 17 pt performance from Terrell Suggs to leapfrog several teams into the 4th place finish . UJ missed badly with two particular non-starts this week: Jamal Lewis had a big week for the Browns scoring 29.5 points, and Tony Gonzalez had a big week for the Chiefs in their loss this week. Unfortunately for UJ the failure to start these two players cost him 41.75 points. OUCH! UJ also did not get a point out his rookie position and does not have a college player. Not having a college player clearly hurts this team, and having rookies who are not solid makes for a difficult 1-2 punch to recover from.
WaxOnWaxOff did just that this weekend, gaining only a 5th place finish . Wax had horrible options at the QB position this week. Almost everyone was hurt or on bye, leaving him only JP Losman or Chad Pennington who both are non-starters. Fortunately for Wax, Losman got the start this week because Trent Edwards is hurt. Wax is also debilitated at the RB position, where Cadillac Williams and Sammy Morris are now sidelined for the year. A huge loss was felt by Wax when Cadillac Williams went down. This Cadillac is, unfortunately for Wax, in the garage for major repairs the rest of this year. Wax’s options at RB this week were Rudi Johnson, who had not played at all this year, and Julius Jones. A position that Wax probably thought of as a strength going into the season is suddenly a glaring weakness . Wax was hoping Heath Miller would have a better Monday night, which could have gotten him into 3rd, but no such luck. Wax has got to be disappointed: after a strong start with a 1st place in week 2 they have only cracked the top half of the standings once.
Old No. 7 came in 6th and wiped up the rear of the 3 through 6 place race this week. It has to be noted that Old did everything within his power this week, with a very strong coaching efficiency of 96.7%. That wasn’t enough though, as most of the players on his team had mediocre weeks. Old must be feeling a little better about Reggie Bush, as he and the Saints appear to be coming around. Old was hurt mainly by two things this week: The bye week, and by the lack of production from his rookie and college players. The rookie and college positions combined for 0 points this week . A scant 1.5 points from his rookie would have given Old another rank point but it wasn’t to be. Old has yet to break into the win column this year and appears to be mired in the middle of the pack. Old’s QB Carson Palmer has certainly contributed to this, not having any particularly great weeks. One has to think this will either continue or get worse after Chad Johnson’s injury this week. As of this writing time the severity of that injury is unknown but it has to have some psychological impact on Ocho Cinco.
Spitoons came in 7th of 8 this week and appears to have made the huge coaching gaffe of not getting his starting lineup in on time . This cost him dearly…3 players who were on bye started this week and Marvin Harrison who was injured was also started. There is really not a lot else you can say about Spitoons this week other than it appears they have mailed it in totally in this league for this year, and appear to already be going for the 1st overall pick in next year’s draft. What is also surprising about the analysis of this week’s outcome for Spi is, in spite of missing all of the things he did miss it really did not make such an incredible difference in his score outside of the QB position. They could have gained only an additional 9 points even if the lineup were submitted. Such is the sorry state of this team . Spi is in bad shape and must wonder what happened after a nice 2nd place finish in week 1. It has not been pretty for this team since that week.
Unfortunately for Decepticons this is an odd week in the NFL season, so that means they have a shitty week where if it had been an even week they would have contended or even won the week. Amazing how a team could go from the astounding total of 182 points in one week (week 8) to the equally astounding total of 77.5 the next . This has to be some sort of record. You can only scratch your head over this phenomena, as literally every other week they are alternatively great and poor. Decept got pathetic production from its QB Jay Cutler, who went out with a “contusion”. Decept should be slapped for drafting any player in the NFL who would go out of a game with such a wimpy injury . Well, he did pay a price anyway as his QB took the Tony Eason route and left the game early. Couple the QB woes with the fact that he only got 3.5 points out of his RB position (in spite of the fact that it seems half his roster are RBs) and his fate was sealed this week. Big misses at the WR position cost Decept as well, as Marques Colston and Santonio Holmes had big weeks while his starters at the position gave him only 11.75 points. This was surprising in that Roy Williams did not have a good game even in the Lions 44 point effort. If Decept could even be only mildly bad on their off weeks they would surely be in 3rd place in the league.
Note: sometimes the NFL announces stats changes and according to PQBFL rules, the results are not totally official until Sunday 1pm Eastern.
