The Spitoons won for the first time this year, totally dominated Wax, and took a commanding 4 rank-point lead in the standings.  RB Westbrook exploded with 31.5 pts, 3 TDs, and 164 yards from scrimmage on only 8 carries and 4 receptions!  That’s an average of 13.7 yards and 0.25 TD per touch.  Amazing.  WR Roy Williams was used for the first time of the year while T Owens was on bye week.  He responded well with his best game of the year and 21.5 pts.  C Palmer also had a big game against the supposedly tough Steelers defense.  Palmer scored 20 pts.  The Spitoons also lead the league on defense with the 4 starters scoring 38 pts.  Rookie AJ Hawk had his best game of the year with 11 pts.  The Spitoons are now clearly installed in first place and are the new favorites to win this year.

FlyingElvis was supposed to be a contender this year but injuries hurt the team in the first two weeks and FE was sitting at the bottom of the standings.  In week #3 it all changed.  Portis came back strong and scored 25.5 pts in a much needed performance since LJ was on bye.  TJ Houshmandzadeh also came back from injury and scored 25.5 pts as well – against the Steelers D no less.  B Favre was given his first start and he responded with 30 pts, which was the best performance by any QB this week.  The rookie position continues to be a problem for FE.  This week, DeAngelo Williams started and finished the game with minus one yard.  So in three weeks, the starting rookie for FE has scored a total of 1.5 pt for an average of 0.5 pt per week.  Ouch.  FE is hoping for M Leinart to become the starting QB in Arizona, and there have been several conflicting reports on whether Leinart would take over, and if so, when.

The BeaudoinBrothers’ engine is slowly warming up and they have to be happy with a 3rd place finish with LT and Gates on bye.  The BBs moved to within 2 rank-points of second place.  Kevin Jones got his first start and did well with 15 pts in LT’s absence.  The BBs filled a need at RB by acquiring C Taylor from the Decepticons and Taylor scored 7 pts against the tough Bears D.  D-Jax is clearly healthy now and with the departure of Chambers to Cons’ land, D-Jax is the new starting WR for the Bros.  D-Jax scored 2 TDs and 21.5 pts against the Giants to move up to 2nd best WR in the league so far.  The news on the other starting WR for the BBs are not as good however.  Chad Johnson only caught one pass this week and was only targeted twice while Palmer threw to TJ Housh and C Henry instead.  One has to wonder whether CJ was still bothered by his concussion or whether Palmer is starting to spread the ball around like Brady does.  The BBs edged OldNo7 this week thanks in part to – unbelievable – a kicker!  John Kasay nailed four long FGs (46, 49, 50, 51) in addition to 2 x-pts for a total of 15 pts.  It is probably the first time in history that a kicker has a clutch performance to help the BBs to gain an extra rank.  The coaching efficiency of the BBs has been a problem this season, but it improved somewhat this week with 80.2%.  The BBs remain last for the season total however.

OldNo7 had a solid week but came up just short again.  Many important players had big games.  QB Kitna got his first start and scored 24.5 pts against the Packers.  Old’s WRs continue to do very well.  Holt scored 19 pts and A Johnson 18.5 pts.  They currently sit at WR4 and WR5 in the league and they are clearly the best duo after three weeks.  Note that injured D Stallworth has the best average in the league so OldNo7 has three of the top 5 WRs in the league so far.  On defense, Ju Peppers had another double-digit game with 5 tackles, 2 assists, and one sack.  K Bulluck did his usual stuff with 11 pts.  OldNo7 was well positioned after the 4pm games to finish 3rd in front of the BBs but Old’s last 3 players all disappointed.  T Bruschi only scored 4.5 pts against the Broncos.  On MNF, W Dunn was neutralized and scored 3.5 pts.  R Bush continues to get decent yardage but he failed to find the end zone again.  Old’s GM can be blamed for the lost rank-point against the BBs because L Tynes was on bye week and Vinatieri was injured, but the team did not even try to make a trade to acquire a kicker to get at least 4 pts to beat the Bros .  It is entertaining that this happened to Old, one of the biggest supporters of kickers in the PQBFL.  They got beat by the team that hates kickers the most.

UncleJack came out on top of a logjam around 5th, 6th, and 7th place despite several issues affecting the team this week.  First of all, rookie J Norwood laid an egg on MNF, which was the third slow finish in a row for UJ.  Fortunately the slow finish this week did not impact the standings.  M Anderson got a second straight start for UJ and this week the Ravens did not give him the ball, so he could not score a TD like he did last week.  All he needs is one carry and they would not give it to him!  UJ’s coach played with fire once again by starting Brad Johnson and benching Peyton Manning.  This was not successful because P Manning scored 19 pts and B Johnson only 3 pts.  However this switch would not have been enough for UJ to beat OldNo7.  There were a few bright spots for UJ this week.  W Parker scored 22 pts and got several goal-line carries which is great news for him.  WRs Boldin and Muhammad did not score a TD but they caught 10 and 9 passes, respectively.  So UJ has decent starters and the team can be competitive and has held its own so far.  UJ is now only 1.5 rank-point behind 4th place.

The Dugongs disappointed this week with a 6th place.  However the most disturbing issue has been the rumors regarding K Warner that he might be benched soon.  The Dugongs have no depth at the QB position so that could possibly hurt the team even more than this week’s 6th place.  Warner was horrible this week with only 3 pts.  He turned the ball over 4 times to the Rams and basically cost the game to the Cards.  That is not even counting the numerous fumbles he had in week #2 that were recovered by his own team.  The guy simply cannot hold on to the ball.  You sneeze, he fumbles.  The other disturbing news for the Dugongs was the use of rookie Mike Bell against the Pats.  The Broncos rode Tatum Bell a lot more than expected and M Bell might only be a backup from now on.  M Bell only scored a point for the Dugongs.  T Heap was injured but played nonetheless and scored a TD.  The Dugongs’ WRs did well with Fitz and Coles scoring 15 and 13.5 pts.  The Dugongs fell from 3rd to 5th place in the standings and this team seems heading south.

The Decepticons came out with the short end of the stick this week again.  Last week they were 2 yards and an extra point short of beating the BBs, while this week, only 4.5 more points would have been a swing of 2 ranks.  McNabb had another strong game with 19.5 pts against the 49ers and he continues to lead the league with 25.0 pts per game so far.  Nobody is even within 4 pts a game from him.  The Decepticons’ kicker was an issue again with J Scobee missing two FGs and scoring -1 pt.  Rookie V Young did not score a point and the TE continues to be a problem with Cooley only scoring 4.5 pts.  The Decepticons' main strength was RB depth so the team traded their best backup C Taylor to the BBs in return for a starting WR Chris Chambers.  Chambers had a quiet debut for the Cons with only 7.5 pts.  He needs Culpepper’s knee to get better in order to boost his stats.  This should happen later this year, but it is unknown how soon Culpepper will get rid of his rust and get his mobility back.  Franchise player Tiki Barber was not used much as the Giants got blown out so he only scored 8.5 pts, pretty low for his standards.  The Decepticons fell to last place in the standings and have one eye on the 2007 season, as their recent trade indicates because they improved their draft picks for next year.

WaxOnWaxOff was predicted not to dominate and after two weeks the experts were wrong.  But Wax fell back to earth in week #3.  Wax got crushed from start to finish and had a horrendous week. It was the first time this year that a team failed to reach 100 pts.  Everything that had been going right for Wax in the first two weeks actually went wrong in week #3.  The Giants got crushed by the Seahawks and Wax’s players were turning the ball over to the Hawks more often than they were making plays.  E Manning threw three INTs and P Burress only caught one pass and fumbled it away.   E Manning did score three garbage TDs late in the game to give Wax some hope about finishing 5th or 6th.  However the Falcons D capped this bad week for Wax with a stinker against the Saints.  They did not cause a turnover, they only sacked Brees once, they allowed 23 pts and allowed two kicks to be blocked, one of them resulting in a TD.  What a crappy night.  Wax’s struggle make the standings very interesting now.  Wax dropped to 2nd place and the team’s lead over the BBs and Old has been cut significantly.

Note: sometimes the NFL announces stats changes and according to PQBFL rules, the results are not totally official until Sunday 1pm Eastern.
