2005 Week #11
1st Place BeaudoinBrothers 174 pts
The BeaudoinBrothers won for the 6th time in 11 weeks with a season-high 174 pts this week. This is the 2nd highest score of the season in the league behind the record-breaking 217.5 pts by the Spitoons in week #3. The BBs extended their first place lead in the standings to 10 rank-points with 6 weeks remaining. They are clearly in the driver seat . This week, their star WRs C Johnson and T Holt both had huge games with 25 and 24 pts. Holt moved up to 3rd best WR and C Johnson 5th best WR in the PQBFL. Bulger scored 22 pts before getting injured in the 3rd quarter. He may be out for an extended period so the BeaudoinBrothers will have to rely on backups M Hasselbeck and M Vick. A Gates also got injured after scoring 15 pts. The extent of his injury is currently not known but he may not be out for as long as Bulger, which is good news for the Bros. J Shockey might be called in action. J Vilma was the 4th player on the BeaudoinBrothers team this week to score 20+ pts. Vilma got 12 tackles, 2 assists, 2 passes defended, and one forced fumble.
The Spitoons had a very good week with 165.5 pts this week, which was their 2nd best score of the year. However, they fell short by less than 10 pts to beat the BeaudoinBrothers in the duel of the league's two dominating teams. The Spitoons need to be near perfect because the Bros are not slowing down much. D Brees exploded for 37 pts and outscored LT and Gates by himself. S Alexander scored 20 more points and strengthened his lead as the league's top scorer over LT. Steve Smith had another huge game with 14 receptions, and Larry Fitz was almost as good with 19 pts. Crumpler got his 2nd best game of the year with 12 pts and he is now the league's 3rd best TE. But all of these great performances were not enough . The Spitoons must blame defense for not beating the Bros this week. The Pats D only scored 3 pts against the sorry Saints. Individual defensive players only scored 30 pts compared to the Bros' 44 pts so it was the difference this week.
The Dugongs finished in the top 3 for the 4th time in 5 weeks and extended their lead further on WaxOnWaxOff in 3rd place. Kurt Warner started instead of K Collins and it proved to be a good move by the coach as Warner scored 24 pts compared to only 14 pts for Collins. Edge scored 18 pts, Plaxico scored 19 pts, and R Wayne continues to show that he was a good acquisition with 18 pts. In the four games since the Dugongs got him in a trade, he scored an average of 15.8 pts per game, which is right up there with the leading WRs. The Dugongs could not beat the Spitoons this week because the 2nd RB position continues to be a problem. T Bell was held to only 3 pts. Chris Brown was benched and scored 20 pts, which cost the team the 2nd place. Problems at DL and LB are also not going away. D Freeney is overrated and he is only the league's 8th best DL. LBs Urlacher and Brooking are not even in the top 10 LBs. The Dugongs coach declared to the press this week that he was frustrated about the PQBFL because he has no hope of a PQBFL championship this year, despite the season being still "young" in week #11 . Maybe he thinks bad teams should be kept in the race of the league's title at the expense of great teams? He partly blamed the fact that he is coaching an expansion team and did not have the chance to draft LT or S Alexander. That is a LAME excuse. The Dugongs average 122 pts per week this season compared to the Bros' 151 pts. The difference between LT and Edge is only 3 pts. Even if the Dugongs had LT, they would still be very far behind the BeaudoinBrothers in the standings. The coach should blame his GM for the team's results, not blame the league's rules for expansion teams. After drafting E James, the next 7 picks by the Dugongs were busts, disappointments, or injured players: Jamal Lewis, Javon Walker, T Gonzalez, Tatum Bell, J Horn, Chris Brown, and Ravens D. If a team screws up on all their picks in the first 7 rounds except for one player, they should not expect to have a chance to win the league. In addition, the coach should look at their defense. All players on defense are mediocre or suck with the exception of Adrian Wilson. This has nothing to do with expansion team. Nice try Dugongs, but blame your GM!
WaxOnWaxOff scored 132 pts to finish in the middle of the pack this week. They strengthened their lead in 4th place over OldNo7 and UJ but lost ground to the Dugongs. C Palmer was the team leader again with 22 pts. He has scored 20+ pts in 5 of 10 games this season. Rudi Johnson got a rare start in the last few weeks but rewarded the coach with a season-high 17 pts. He has improved a little recently because this was his third double-digit score in his last 5 games. Wax's WRs scored 10 and 11 pts - ok but nothing great. This is the type of performance that puts you in the middle of the standings. Most of the other players had average or slightly below average games, like T Jones with 7 pts, Heap with 5 pts, A Schobel with 3 pts, Polamalu with 6 pts, and Heath Miller with 6 pts. Wax fell back to an enormous 25 rank-points behind first place and 15 rank-points behind 2nd place. The team has started thinking about 2006. The main concern is who will the franchise player be for next year . It is unclear if D McAllister can return to health and be good enough to warrant the franchise tag again. The team lacks superstars. C Palmer might be the only other option, unless Wax trades during the offseason.
FlyingElvis almost tied their season-high 127.25 pts with a score of 127 pts this week. Larry Johnson led the way with 30 pts against the laughable Texans defense. LJ was a great pickup for an expansion team because he was drafted for the long-term and he is already paying dividends. Brady continues to put up points on the board and scored 22 this week. He is the league's 3rd best QB behind Palmer and P Manning. M Vrabel has been a tackle machine in the last few weeks, and he even added a TD reception this week when he played on offense. Vrabel has scored double digits 4 times in his last 5 games. Rookie Matt Jones scored another TD this week, his 3rd in 4 weeks. All is not rosy for FE however. First round pick W McGahee has generally been a disappointment this season and he only scored 5 pts this week. This was his 3rd game below 8 pts in his last 4 games. He is currently the league's 16th best RB and may not be good enough to become the team's franchise player. FE's WRs are very up and down. This week, M Harrison and S Moss only scored 13 pts combined. Their inconsistency has dropped them to 8th and 10th best WRs in the league. The continued absence of Ed Reed and K Hamlin at DB has probably cost FE another rank this week .
UncleJack fell short on MNF when Barnett scored 10 pts and D Sharper only 3 pts. UJ finished only 1 point behind FE and 6 pts behind Wax and lost a golden opportunity to catch OldNo7 in 5th place and move closer to Wax in 4th place. P Manning is red-hot and is playing like a mad man with 27, 29, and 30 pts in his last three games . R Droughns had a big game with 22 pts. He has also been on fire recently with three straight weeks with 15+ pts. R Moss is the main reason why UJ is unable to catch up serious ground against its opponents. R Moss has been very inconsistent since his injury. This week he only scored 5 pts, which is his third bad game in four weeks. R McMichael started the season strong but he has been horrible recently. He failed to catch a pass this week and this is his 5th game of 4 pts or less in the last six weeks .
OldNo7's free fall continues. Old finished last for the 2nd time in 4 weeks and only has 6 rank-points during those 4 weeks. They fell 7.5 rank-points behind Wax and only lead UJ by 2 rank-points. Injuries and the GM inaction continue to be a problem. The GM failed to trade for a LB before the deadline on Sunday. There were talks with FE at the last minute but there was not enough time to reach an agreement. In week #11, the team's RBs were horrible. Portis scored only 1 point and S Jackson scored minus 2 pts! Portis had 2 fumbles and Jackson one fumble. Not wanting to be left out, Plummer also fumbled once and scored only 7 pts. Vaseline was all over OldNo7's locker room this week because Andre Johnson also fumbled and scored only 5 pts . Julius Peppers had two good games in weeks #9-10 but went back to his old ways with only 2 pts this week. Not having a LB to start is just killing Old and J Farrior missed his 2nd straight game. The only good news was the good performance by Cadillac Williams with 16 pts. He had only scored 2 pts total from week #4 to week #10 due to missing 2 games to an injury, one bye week, and 4 shitty games. Cadillac could help Old down the stretch. The return to health of Darrell Jackson is also sorely needed. He may play in week #12.
