2005 Week #2
2nd Place BeaudoinBrothers 151.5 pts
7th Place FlyingElvis 78.5 pts
WaxOnWaxOff won for the first time since week #10 of last year with 160 pts. Carson Palmer destroyed the Vikings with over 300 passing yards and 3 TDs. Palmer is currently the top QB in the PQBFL after 2 weeks. WR is supposed to be Wax's weakness but this week, H Ward bounced back from his horrible week #1 with 2 TDs. TE LJ Smith is starting to emerge as one of the league's best TEs. He caught 9 passes for 119 yds and one TD. He was playing against the 49ers, but this is promising nonetheless. On defense, T Polamalu got 3 sacks and scored 15 pts. Wax's RBs struggled a little by scoring only 7 pts each. This is not horrible but below Rudi Johnson and Deuce McAllister's standards. Wax started the wrong rookie for the 2nd straight week. Heath Miller was completely shut out with zero points this week. The rookie position was supposed to be average (not outstanding, but not bad) for Wax with a rookie K and a rookie TE. However, Wax got -1 pt and 0 pt so far this season from the starting rookie.
The BeaudoinBrothers had a nice week with 151.5 pts and a 2nd place and now lead in the standings by 3 rank-points over OldNo7 and WaxOnWaxOff. Tiki Barber scored 2 TDs on MNF to secure 2nd place in front on OldNo7. Tiki is currently the top RB in the PQBFL and looks like a steal as a 5th round pick. L Tomlinson also scored 2 TDs although he only got 52 yds rushing and did not catch a pass, which is a bit of a worry for the BeaudoinBrothers. The Bros' WRs continue to do well, scoring 21 and 13 pts. A Gates was welcomed back in the lineup and scored 10 pts. Rookie Odell Thurman is cementing his starting roster spot ahead of JJ Arrington. Thurman scored 12 pts and is currently the league's 2nd best rookie behind Cadillac from OldNo7. Note the stellar coaching efficiency of 85.1% for the Bros this week. This is the 2nd straight week in which the team gets the highest coaching efficiency percentage in the PQBFL. On the negative side, M Bulger had a somewhat disappointing game with only 10 pts against the Arizona Cards. Charles Grant is also disappointing so far. He was the 2nd DL drafted but he is currently the 15th best DL.
OldNo7 got another 3rd place finish which in the long run would guarantee a place among the leaders of the league. The Bears defense / special team absolutely demolished the Lions laughable offense. The Bears allowed only 6 pts and 234 yards while getting 5 INTs, 2 sacks, they blocked an extra point, and they scored 2 TDs for a total of 32.5 pts. This is one of the best performances by a defense ever. The Bears are currently the top defense in the league. Rookie Cadillac Williams scored a TD and got 128 yds against the tough Bills D, which is quite an accomplishment. Cadillac currently leads all rookies by more than 5 pts. He will provide OldNo7 an edge all year long. Julius Peppers only scored 1 pt this week against the Pats and he is currently ranked 10th DL in the league. He was expected to be the undisputed top DL this season.
The Spitoons finished in the middle of the pack with 120.5 pts this week, which is an improvement from last week's 6th place, but still leaves the team in 6th place overall behind the Dugongs. This week was almost a replica of week #1. The Spitoons got several very good performances from key players. S Alexander scored 18 pts, L Jordan scored his first TD as a Raider and got 12 pts, Terrell Owens burned the 49ers with 2 TDs and 28 pts, and Zach Thomas just keeps tackling everybody in sight with 15 pts. However, Culpepper alone is sinking the Spitoons. This level of suckdom has rarely been achieved by anybody in the past. After throwing for 3 INTs and losing 2 fumbles in week #1, Culpepper threw 5 INTs against the Bengals . That is an amazing total of 10 turnovers in 2 weeks. Last year, Culpepper only had 11 INTs and 3 fumbles lost. 2004: 14 turnovers in 16 games, 2005: 10 turnovers in 2 games. Unfreakinbelievable. Needless to say that Culpepper is currently dead last in the QB rankings with an average of -3.5 pts. In fact, Culpepper is dead last of all players all positions. It will be interesting to see if and when the Spitoons decide to bench their first round pick because backup Ben Roethlisberger currently ranks 3rd QB in the league behind C Palmer and D McNabb.
In their first week without Javon Walker, the Dugongs had a very average 5th place and 107.5 pts. The problem was not the WR position however. P Burress and Joe Horn scored 28 pts combined. More production by the WR would not have been enough to lift the Dugongs to 4th place or better. The main problem was RB Jamal Lewis who is playing like someone who was in jail for a few months. He got 9 rushing yards on 10 carries and one fumble . The Ravens defense was supposed to be top in the league but they disappointed by scoring only 3.5 pts against the Titans who normally don't scare anybody. The Ravens D is currently ranked 14th out of 15 defenses in the league. Tony Gonzalez is another high draft pick who is not delivering. Gonzalez scored 8 pts this week which is not that bad, but after 2 weeks he is ranked 7th TE which is not what the Dugongs need from him. A few other Dugongs players had nice but not outstanding games, like K Collins with 13 pts, E James with 13 pts, B Urlacher with 12 pts, and D Johnson with 9 pts. Nobody got a big performance so the Dugongs were stuck in the middle this week.
UncleJack followed up their 2nd place last week with a disappointing 6th place this week. With a coaching efficiency below 60% this week, the coach can be blamed. Benching P Manning at home is extremely difficult to do, but if he is not benched when he plays the Jaguars defense while McNabb is playing the 49ers, then he will never be benched. Why did UncleJack draft McNabb if not to rotate Manning and McNabb to take advantage of good matchups? Manning only scored 1 pt while McNabb scored 39 pts. This 38 pt swing would have moved UJ to 3rd place. UJ's RBs are the team weakness and it showed this week. C Dillon scored 3 pts and W Dunn 5 pts. On defense, the 4 starters got a league-low 23.5 pts. Kerney only scored 2 pts while D Sharper followed his great week #1 performance with only 3 pts this week. The only bright side this week for UJ was the team's receivers. R Moss scored another long TD and got 19 pts. He is currently the league's 2nd best WR. Old man Rod Smith scored 12 pts this week which is decent. TE R McMichael scored 14 pts in week #1 and followed up with 16 pts this week. He is currently the top TE in the league, 3.5 pts in front of LJ Smith from Wax.
FlyingElvis got wallopped and scored only 78.5 pts. The team was horrible across the board. On defense, FE only scored 25 pts with T Suggs doing nothing special (3 pts) and high draft pick Ed Reed struggling like the rest of the Ravens D with only 4 pts. Leftwich was held in check by the surprising Colts D with only 6 pts. McGahee also had a tough matchup at Tampa Bay and only scored 2 pts. However Ahman Green had an easy matchup vs the Browns but only scored 8 pts. M Harrison had one of his worst games ever with only 4 pts and N Burleson only scored 6 pts before getting injured . Even kicker David Akers missed a FG and got injured, although he eventually came back in the game. Rookie Matt Jones only caught one pass. Everything went wrong for FE. The best peformance was the Eagles D which scored 17.5 pts against the 49ers. Not only FE has struggling players, but the coach is doing a horrible job. This week, the coaching efficiency percentage was only 49.2%. While WRs Harrison and Burleson scored 10 pts combined, players on the bench almost all doubled that score: D Driver (19 pts), TJ Houshmandzadeh (20 pts), and Santana Moss (27 pts). Brett Favre also scored 25 pts on the bench against the Browns D and the coach can be blamed for not starting him against a weak D instead of Leftwich. M Vrabel was also benched and he scored a TD. There are some good players on FE's team, but the coach is making bad decisions. After 2 weeks, the team is dead last in coaching efficiency with 58.9%.
